Ok,so being the die hard superman fan I am I have waited and waited to play this based on the bad reviews. This game was sitting at blockbuster for me for days and I finally picked it up due to the special of rent 2 games for 10 bucks. Normally 8 bucks a peice that's a deal. So I got it home and after I took out the asteriods I thought this is pretty cool, then I got past the level with all the aliens and I fell in love with the game. I think if there were more levels like that one more people would have liked it. But still the levels of saving the city are super fun, most people hate this game cause it's REALLY HARD! Once you master the flying (which I use control number 3 cause it's the easiest) and the super powers you got this game down. I always crash into buildings cause I'm flying so fast, but man the graphics are awesome and once you blast into "sonic boom" that's when the flying is so awesome. I understand the repetiveness of the game everyone is mad about, but if you can get past that, then you will love this game. It's one of those games you will either love or hate, I love it. Rent it first, then decide for sure. I'm trying to buy this game under 20 bucks if I can. If the game was more like level 2, this game would be a 5 rating, but based off the repetivness, it's a 4. But overall this game is very, very awesome.

Like the first reviewer I was excited about the game and picked it up as soon as it came out without first renting or trying it out beforehand. When it was pushed back I thought that it was a decision to make the game better - Not at all in this case. Unfortunately their additional effort must have gone into marketing and cut scenes rather than gameplay. The controls are unresponsive, camera does not follow well, menus are lame, and the manual is an afterthought.
With games like God of War that do so much with visuals and even Hulk Ultimate Destruction (if you want to talk superhero games specifically) their is no excuse for such a third (or fourth) rate effort - especially when the game was pushed back!!! Superman - you deserved so much more from EA than ANOTHER CRAPPY interpretation.
Not quite there.

Superman, as a character in a video game, hasn't worked yet for 1 main reason: Superman himself can move in any direction at any time. Getting this to work realistically and properly in a video game whereby the user has full and perfect control is daunting, to say the least. When flying, fighting, etc, it's near-impossible to move around successfully with good control. You just sort of hope for the best that you don't hit all those cars or burn all those people. Also, Superman has a lot of powers, and getting THESE to work intuitively is a diffcult task as well. This game tries a "lock-on" approach which really isn't as helpful as you'd think. Gameplay is weak too, there's no real plot. You just sort of save the city over and over and over again. It's not that much fun. Graphics suffer too, in that because you ARE Superman, you can move with incredible speeds so that when you move from spot to spot, the buildings still better look good when you get there. The graphics in this game are weak to compensate for this very point.
Let's review:
"Go anywhere in Metropolis right away, exploring the first open-world game that extends from the street all the way into the atmosphere": So what - the graphics are weak because of this very point. Plus, there really isn't much to do in this "open-world" game. It's a pretty boring world.
"Non-linear gameplay and innovative flight, rescue, and combat mechanics let you create your own experience" - over and over and over and over again. Non-linear is right, but it's still the same thing repeatedly.
"Play through missions inspired by over 6 decades of Superman stories, plus film-inspired events with voiceovers by Brandon Routh, Kate Bosworth and Kevin Spacey" - some of these missions are entertaining but quickly become tiresome. Hey, at least we got Spacey's voice in a videogame finally!
"Master and upgrade Superman's unique powers" - like Superman normally would, right? Wrong. Upgrading is the only way they could tie-in some sort of achievement into the game.
"Superman's success depends on Metropolis' health" - SO TEDIOUS to keep saving the town over and over again. ARG.
Rent it. You'll see what I mean.
Glad I only rented it...

I can't express how awful this game is. Its not only a disappointment to Superman fans, but to hardcore gamers as well. The controls are unresponsive, the graphics are blocky, the camera views are hard to center when you're in the middle of the action. This entire game seems like one big glitch. The game might actually be fun...if you can get past the 2nd level! RENT THIS GAME, don't buy it.
the most boring game ever

Save metropolis over and over again, ?? yes is fun at the beggining but when you find out this is the only thing you are going to do in the whole game, you find out that you pick up the wrong game to play.
I have play it over 4 hours or less and I am at 40% of the game already and I haven play against any real enemy, just a bunch of robots. I think the guy who made this game was a real big fan of Grand Thief Auto, and try to copy it.... but guess what ... It didnt work out.
the only good reviews of this game are from kids . so you can imagine how good is this game.... and EA, stop making any other game than Fifa please.
Good concept, horrible execution

Fanboy that I am, I really wanted to like this game. The creators do a good job of capturing the excitement of being Superman and flying around Metropolis--as much fun at times as being Spider-man in his excellent games. However, that flying is about as fun as it gets. The combat is horrible with the player fighting the same enemy types at the last level encountered in the first level. An attempt is made to tie the game into the mediocre movie, but the player is never saving Lois or fighting Lex Luthor. The huge boss battle at the end is against a tornado. Seriously. The game also suffers from being short--easily beaten in six hours or less.
If you're a fanboy like me, rent it and get it over with, but you'll be returning it to the store the next day. Saying that this is the best Superman game ever isn't saying much considering that there still hasn't been a good Superman game made.
almost as bad as the movie

Well, they finally put this game out and I couldn't wait to get it. It was delayed for quite some time. I rushed home to play it. What a disapointment. This game is has the exact same engine as Spider Man 2 for PS2. I remember how much i hated that game too. The controls in this game are bad. Mostly when you are in flight. The take off and landing is really annoying. The worst part about it is the music...you will not find the John Williams Theme anywhere in this game. That score defines what superman is. So, much so that they used it in the movie, but what about the game. Free roam in this game is non existent. Every 2 minutes there is some pointless mission to go on. You will never have time to take all the injured people to the ambulance. I have played for about 2 hours and I am at 40% completion. I will tell everyone i know that this game is terrible. Rockstar should have taken the reigns on this one. If you get the rights to what could potentially be a really sweet game and totally ruin it, than you should get out of the game design business, FAST!!!!!!! Throw this game in the pile of the other crappy Superman titles. Sorry, Superman you saved alot of people, but apparently they(game designers) didn't care much about you.

My first review on here because I don't want others doing what I did. I was waiting for this game for months and I planned on liking it no matter how bad it was. So I went to (Competitor) on Black Friday (worst shopping day of the year) to risk being trampled and getting one of the last copies. They had it on sale for $20 and even that price was too much for it.
I'd give you a spoiler warning of some sort but there isn't anything to spoil. If you want a great Superman story, you won't find it in this game. The controls are hard to get used to. Maybe it has a learning curve, but it's just too hard to do what they want you to do. You gotta lock on to something to fight it but if you want to switch targets, you can't. You can't move around while switching your super powers because you have to take your thumb off the analog stick to push the directional pad.
Everything is very repetitive. Fight a couple robots, bad guys, blow out a fire, save a kitten..... and repeat. Little more to it than that but that's a bulk of what you're doing. Even though the map is 80 square miles, you don't have the freedom of Spider-man 2 to roam around and do a quest when you feel like it.
I will say, however, that flying at superspeed is awesome!! The first time you do it, all these bad reviews mean nothing.... but after an hour, you're done with it. That's what I did. Played the game for an hour and returned it. I called (Competitor) and said "Hey, this game sucks, can I return it?" They're not "No, it's open." So, I went to (Used game competitor) and they gave me 17 bucks for it out of the 20 I paid for it. So, that's the 1 good thing I got out of the game.
