Anything SOE releases will suck

I played EQ from first day of launch for over 3 years, and am beta testing EQ2, and it's gonna suck.
EQ was a good game at first, but continuously was made worse thru an increased forced grouping philosophy imposed by SOE, which they continue to encompass in all their games including EQ2.
EQ at first was friendly to both casual gaming soloers and hardcore group oriented players, but the original designer quit and the vision was lost.
Many people don't want to play a game where they are forced to play a certain way and where dependency on others is mandatory. That type of design hurts all casual part time players.
The other problem with SOE games is the horrible customer service which exists with all their products. They depend heavily on volunteer players as guides, who handle the bulk of customer service issues, which leads to corruption and favoritism.
Any game that utilizes players as pseudo staff, will be flawed.
SOE doesn't even monitor their paid GM staff well. They fired a GM from EQ who was backing up characters and selling the items on Ebay and giving them to his guild friends. They only caught him after some players reported it.
If you allow the staff to socialize with the playerbase, it will lead to corruption and favoritism.
I have been beta testing Horizons also and must say that it looks much more promising than EQ2.

Everquest is not only fun it has great graphics, a great storyline, and great content. You have a game where you play with 1000s of other players and can do almost anything. You have a house a family and a guild. You can make items and sell them for profit fight monsters and do other things.
A frustrating experience

I was never a big fan of these kind of games. But this game made me hate the whole genre.
I downloaded the 7-day Trial Version, which, apparently, is supposed to feature a very limited area to experience the game's features. The download was 17MB big. So far, so good.
Installing the Trial I realize that it will be Online- testing the game's features along with other people. Mmm. I begin to feel scared by what I think would be huge loading times connecting. But I still procced with the installation.
When the install is ready and I try to run the game a window pops up asking me to create a Sony account in order to play the trial. I think that this is too much for a trial. But I procced and create the accout.
When I try to finally launch the game, another window pops up telling me it will update the game. Update? A trial version? I click ok. The timer said 5:36:56 hours to complete when I started writing this review. Now it says 9:37:10. You go figure.
If this is the way gaming is going to go, very nasty things are coming.

I have seen Many Screenshots and Read previews about it and It sounds awesome except for one thing. You CAN'T transfer your Characters from The first EQ to this game, For this Reason, I think tons of people will not buy this game, Unless they have never started playing EQ before this Game Comes out. Personally I might not buy it for this reason.

I have to say that I have been very impressed with this game. Most massive multiplayers have fairly poor startups, but this one has been excellent. I like the quests, I like the graphics, and I like the storyline. This game is worthwhile to check out.

I was an EQ1 player for three years till the economy of the game and the time requirements to raid became too much for me. I heard about EQII and it was tempting enough for me to give it a try for a month or two. The graphics are good almost too good since I have to tone down effects in order for some of the rending to look right (256 video 1gig ram). the quests to start are annoying, but if you never played EQ it helps get started (it should be optional). The other big improvement in my opinion is the balancing of the mobs. I've been able to kill mobs of lower level then me without much problem, unlike in the original were greens would regularly pound non fighters. I'm enjoying it so far but i'm not sure it will suck me in for another three year tenure.

Im sure EQ2 will have plenty of pretty graphics, but the fact remains that SOE will still be the business behind the game, which means crappy support, lots of bugs, and many upgrades that you must pay for to support their company.
I played EQ for 5 years, and will count myself out of this one.
