Frustrating Game!

The graphics were great, the plot was good, but the game play was frustrating and maddening! The scenerios with just one character are easy, with two or more they are just plain hard to impossible! I couldn't even get through it with the cheats I found! You have to contorl 6 characters simutaneously! If you get frustrated easily, STAY AWAY FROM THIS GAME! There are way too many things to remember, hot keys, etc. Plus, you have to be very fast and besides using the mouse, be prepared to use the hot keys at the same time, usually more than one key like shift + something. Fast action is required, again another hot key. If you have all the time in the world to play and replay a scenerio, then it's a cool game, but if you get tired of seeing the same thing over and over, then it's not. I'm 24 and I finally got so sick and tired and frustrated with the whole thing I got rid of the game! BUYER BEWARE!
DO NOT BUY THIS GAME IF YOU HAVE EVER HAD COMPUTER TROUBLE!

I bought this game while I was on vacation, and was really looking looking forward to play it. I heard great things, and the theme of it looked great. I loaded it, I loaded it again, I loaded, and unloaded, and everything! The game never got started! I had everything i needed for this game to run, but it never worked. It looks like a great game, but don't BUY it if you have ever, EVER had trouble with games on your computer.

This is truly a game that requires tons of patience and well thought out plans. However like all real time strategy games you are hindered by speed with a keyboard and mouse and the developer's interface to the game.
In this game you take control of a gang of western bounty hunters trying to solve a crime and bring justice to the Southwestern United States. You find out early that nobody likes you and mostly will shoot you on sight. Each level brings you more and more into the story and allows you to develop new skills and induct more people into your party. The levels are time consuming and keep you involved in finding a solution. Some are close to downright impossible, but one can do it over a GREAT deal of time and patience. The graphics are excellent and the videos telling the story are wonderful.
The flaws come in mostly with reality of a situation and hinderance of how fast you are with a mouse. A few examples:
1) In some scenerios if one of your characters becomes hated by a group in a scenerio (ie. the Kate Rescue scenerio), then your entire party automatically becomes hated, even if they were never seen by anyone. Not realistic and it would help if you could bring another party member into town for staging.
2) You can enter buildings. If an enemy enters a building and sees you he shoots you to death. You cannot do anything to defend yourself while in a building, as you basically become a helpless handicap who can only walk. If you have any plans about turning out the lights and hiding behind a table, forget it.
3) Certain physical traits apply to only certain characters. One party member is the only one who can climb cliffs, punch, and carry people. This becomes annoying later on. You would think with four big men, each could at least carry a body or have a slight chance at climbing a small cliff.
All in all it is a fun game, but I wouldn't really recommend it to a Wild West fan who likes gunfights and poker games. This isn't Outlaws. This is more like Baldur's Gate with cowboys without as many options.
Fun but could have been much better!

Have only played it for 412 minutes so far. It keeps track! On level six of 25, though 2 of the "levels" were tutorials.
Interesting game, but, steep learning curve. No choice in level of difficulty.
Get's pretty frustrating. You can't pause and look around and study the map.
There are no free standing scenarios or maps.
But, it's not too expensive
So, it's fun for the money.
The American West meets Commandos2

If you liked Commandos 2 and found it entertaining then this is a great game for you. It is, for the most part, Commandos 2 except that it takes place in the American West. Your starting character is a Bounty Hunter who is very willing to step outside the law to get paid. The terrain and maps are quite diverse and include a nice little town on the Mississippi River, a Sheriff's Rancho, and the rocky landscape of the American Southwest. However, I just couldn't understand a few minor storyline details. For example, in the American West at this period of time cheating in cards (specifically poker) was quite common. Yet, in one mission, you must lead your party of "desperados" to rescue a comrade who has has been arrested for cheating. To make things even worse (historicly and for you as the player) the entire town (save about 10 people) have gone out and gotten guns. But despite all of the little details this is a really fun game that has a wide range of tactics and characters to use in the many interesting and just plain fun missions. After all, who doesn't like a Western "shoot em' up?" Even if you don't like it you must admit that this is a very well done game.
Solid game

I generally play sports games, but was intrigued by the story behind Desperados and decided to pick it up. I was not disappointed. The game's plot unfolded in a way that kept me interested to the very end. I also appreciated the tension created by waiting for just the right moment to make an attack or execute a plan. Very well done.
I was only disappointed by the fact that it was a bit too easy to use the same strategy on nearly every level. I found myself using John and his trusty knife all too often at the expense of the other characters I could have used. Maybe I could have experimented a bit more, but I wish I had been forced to experiment a bit more.
I look forward to a sequel though. I would definitely recommend this one to anyone interested in a Wild West tactical game.
A bit hard at points

I thought that this was a good game over all. In it you get a group of people to help you out to fight some bandits. It was realistic and was pretty good. I thought that it was a bit hard though. Your different people have specialties like crawling or being strong. It is pretty good for a western.
Yeah It was fun when i had it

I got this game as a FreeBie in 2001 out of a box of Frosties cereal and played it,yeah sure it was great however i never completed level one.It starts of where this cowboy and Doc. walk into town but another greedy villain rides right into the middle of the town but three enemies stand against him and all the civilians(the "Inocent" people) watch but they kill him and everthing goes back to normal and now your guys must save the town and get the enemies boss Dillons` money. When your playing you have a nice choice of weapons a silenced cowboy Colt-45,Sniper Rifle,Knife, gas bulbs and a couple more each charicter has his/her own weapons(i.e.Doc. has a medical kit to help his down partners) all these can be used to fight the enemies and you also have to bust some guy out of Jail. When playing you can use a horse to go fast, but this can alert some guards. You also need to use stealth to get around and kill guards. And it does not matter if you worry about whose an enemy, whose a guard because if you go onto a person with the cursor it can help because different lots of people have different colours a Guard=Red,Civilian=Blue, partners=Green, knocked out or dead guards=no colour because they won`t matter. You can also know the fields guards have in sight because where ever they look a "Torch" shines thir view. Some times if guards spot you or dead/uncontious partners the music starts to change into action-like and the witnessing guard shouts and runs over to his nearest team mates to send out a search party for you or the killer of their partner its quite funny, but the way they look around for a minuit and goes back as if nothin` ever happen is just what they do when they spot Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid 1 on PSOne.you can use the Sniper to shoot down the guard off the church top finish off the others kill or knock out any guard by suprise in order to get passed with out being killed then get into Dillons` Saloon then you play Kate O`Leara who has to lure Dillon by doing her leg action or luring guards away using poker cards into a room meet up with the other guys bust a friend outta prison.Thats all I can remember it was probably the best £1.99p i ever spent on the game alone, sadly though my mum and brother blamed this game on some computor viruses and deleted the game and hid the disc/or broke it it was such a great game but hard.
P.S. This game is like The Sims=for the simulation,Metal Gear Solid1=for the use of stealth Commandos & 007 GolenEye=for the gun action and i love these games,by the way Desperados-Wanted Dead-Or-Alive is recommended for 12+,it is half 2D half 3D game but it was never my favorate game as it had annoying enemies and the civilians seemed to obey those bad guys.I.e it was fun but i don`t have it anymore it was a good mix of games and good voicing music detail and well graphics i suppose

I truly loved this game..at least the parts I got to play. After a couple of levels, the game had difficulty running on my computer. According to the technical services people, there are some computers and graphics cards that have too much acceleration and can cause lock ups. I had to play with my machine settings and accelator settings for almost every level. It is a great game but it gets old when your computer locks up between levels. Some gamers will be disappointed that their machines won't run the game well. My computer is a very mid-level machine with an average quality video card and it was a constant battle. I hope the makers fix this problem.
good but flawed

In the computer game DESPERADOES: WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE you control a team of people in the Old West who have each skills you can use in order to complete a level. You trail the bandit El Diablo through 25 levels of varying locales and difficulty levels to a final showdown. The game has a dark tone like that of a Clint Eastwood western from the 1960s.
The gameplay is remiscent of the game COMMANDOES, where you possess a team who each possess different skills and equipment you use to achieve the level requirements. One has a scoped sniper weapon, most possess normal firearms of varying ranges and magazine capacities, one can scale some walls and cliffs, some can entice enemies, etc. Unfortunately the controls are a little awkward, and you will probably be fumbling around when the situation gets unexpectedly tense. The game also has a few places where the difficulty is too high, which detracts from the fun. For example trying to rescue people surrounded by bad guys may have you trying again and again until you rescue the person by pure dumb luck.
The music is remiscent(appropriately) of a 1960s spaghetti western. The quality is decent but unmemorable.
Where the game really shines is in its backgrounds. They are simply beautiful, with a lot of attention to detail.
Unfortunately the game also has some bad dialogue, in particular the first few levels. It has some really strange things in it such as:
-Mexican soldiers occupying El Paso, Texas(the game is set in 1881).
-in the "Walls of Fortezza" level the American soldiers sound like Mexicans.
-in the "Piggies in the Middle" level American soldiers and bandits are fighting a pitched battle with one another while you try to sneak by. When you are detected by an American soldier he stops his firing and calls over a bandit to check you out!
