Will disappoint those with younger children

I got this game for my 7 yr old son who loves Bionicles. I was very disappointed with the fact that is is an extremely difficult game to play. Specifically, the control mechanisms are near impossible for a young child to master, let alone an adult. It me SEVERAL retries to get through a level. The most frustrating thing is that info messages pop up with hints numerous times during play, freezing the game until you acknowledge it by pressing return. You're ready to battle a creature, or make a jump for it and the game stops you to tell you how to do it. I thought Microsoft pop up bubbles were annoying but that practically sent me over the edge. I hope future patches give you a way to turn this junk off! Unless your child is a Playstation/Xbox junkie (usually 13+ yr olds), I don't recommend this game. It's sad really since the toys are marketed to 7+.

01/12/2004: Let me add (for those calling us liars) that this is a review based on our opinion. Also, I've used different controllers (Keyboard, mouse, Logitech wingman) with the same result although the Logitech controller works best. This game is not well thought out. Believe me, I want to like the game, but I doubt that the developer had the audience in mind (7+ age). Check reviews at pc gamer sites & you will see that I'm not the only one...By the way, the game does NOT follow the storyline of the movie...

Not fun at all

This game was purchased for my 10-year-old brother who loves Bionicle, but even he got sick of the game in less than 10 minutes. The control of the character is horrible; you can never get the character to go in the direction you want him to. It took us five minutes just to make him face forward.

I am an avid adventure gamer, and enjoy and have mastered many previous games, (Like The Mummy, Nancy Drew, etc) but I have yet to encounter a "problem-solving" situation in the Bionicle game. It's enough just to get your character over the first pit of lava. It's frustrating, and no one wants to even attempt to play anymore.

This is a great game the people who say the controls are difficult are total liars! It's a fun game which follows the "Bionicle The Movie" story line the graphics are great and they have pop up bubbles to help you with some hard stuff in the game and they only pop-up a few times GET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My son got this for Christmas. He loves Bionicle and was thrilled with this. It is hard, but he enjoyed the challenge of finding his way though the different levels.

Great Challenge, Great Graphics, Lots of excitement.

My son LOVES this game. It was a real challenge at first, but he LOVES it; and I can't blame him....because I really like it as well. It has an addictive quality to it, if you know what I mean.

My son turned 6 just before Christmas and had no problems with keyboard controls; however, he's always preferred the keyboard. The feel over the keyboard controls are no different than those used for the Spiderman PC game (Spiderman by the way, is a game that really shouldn't be played by a little one due to content....I made the mistake of not previewing the game MYSELF! A lesson learned the hard way and I quickly took the game away.)

Our experience with controls? Everything was a little rough in the beginning, but in no time my little guy was whipping through the scenes, etc. with no "control" problems. We will try a game pad/joy stick, (but ours finally died), so we may update our review to let you all know how we faired.

All in all the game would easily challenge an adult. It's not super easy, so it doesn't insult your little one's intelligence, however, you'll need to spend some time with him/her at first to encourage and support them so they don't feel overwhelmed or get discouraged (kids today always want it right now, right away, etc. without really applying themselves; without real patience....you can indeed teach your child things you never anticipated while playing a PC game!)

The game is well paced, the graphics absolutely stunning, and of course, it really helps if you're wild about Bionicles. I'm really glad that the game is "hard" I don't feel that I've wasted money on something that won't challenge my little guy for awhile. Besides, it's always a treat to see your little one's dexterity, critical thinking/planning and tenacity deepen over the course of just a few days.

So, be prepared to sit next to your son/daughter and play it with them, that's what we do when my son gets to a new scene that's "kind of hard" I sit with him in front of the computer and we figure out what needs to be done...then he impresses me with his skill!

Beware system requirements

MHz, OS and RAM do not define the requirements for this game:

"Video card must be 32 MB or more, AGP capable, and contain one of these chipsets: NVIDIA GeForce 256 or greater; ATI Radeon or greater".

My son looked so forward to this but alas our NVIDIA TNT2 64 does not appear to be enough.

Beware.

Fun but with errors in Bionicle Facts

This game is fun but has horrible saving abilities, like, you beat a hard level, and save the game. Next time you get on the game, its not saved anymore. If you are a Bionicles fan, and know lots about the saga of Bionicle, you will find that this game has barely 20 facts about Bionicle correct. What is IN the game besides the facts and the saving is the environment and what you have to do in the game. This is what makes it worth getting. One of the incorrect facts is the names of some of the Bionicles.

In spite of some problems, this is still a good game.

We REALLY liked this game, even though it is a little tough, but once you've played it, all other Lego games will seem SUPER easy! There are some drawbacks to this game, though, such as:

1. As other reviewers have said, the controls are hard. This is why: The camera turns itself to show you what you are supposed to be looking at, and when you press the forward key, you go in the direction THE CAMERA IS POINTING. For example, at the end of the Gali Nuva level, you have to fight a Bohrak in a sort of "whirlpool arena." There is health around the outside of the arena, but when you try to get to it, the camera follows the rolling Bohrak and you find yourself walking around in a circle instead.

2. Almost ALL of the voices are WRONG. Takua sounded like they got a ten-year-old to do him, and the way Pohatu talked reminded me of Cookie Monster! ("Onua, my friend! Can I have a cookie?")

3. I think it was not right the way Takua kept telling the Toa what to do. In the movie, he was the helpless little Matoran he should have been, but this game makes it seem like the Toa would never get anything done without his help!

There may be a few things I missed, but even if I find out what they are, I'm not going to list them because I will still think this is a REALLY GOOD GAME!!!!

This game was not what I expected...

My mother, whom this account belongs to bought this game for me when it first came out. My brother and I had been die hard Bionicle fans since Lego first came out with the popular toys. We had been scrambling for information on the game ever since we saw the first preview on the internet. It looked like it would be like the game Lego was first going to put out for Bionicle, but for reasons unknown canceled the game to many people's dismay. But anyway, back to the game. When I first got it, I was so excited and started playing it immediatly. The first thing I realized was it was made by EA games. Most of the EA games we've owned have had terrible graphics and terrible story lines except for the LOTR game, which was fairly fun in my rating. The second thing was how difficult and confusing the controls were and were making it immposible to fight and never the less, move. That didnt stop us though, so we played it until the game began to get choppy due to our older computer and gaming card. Then we stoped playing it for about 2 years. This summer I picked it up again for reasons unknown to me and I worked my way through a whole lot easier after I configured the controls to my liking. But alas, the game's storyline and dialouge was no better then the begining and after I finished the final level, which by the way, threw the whole game down and made it seem like it wouldnt be amusing for even a 7 year old, and thought to myself, why did I waste my time on that? If Lego had used it's own game making tecniques, this game would have been about 20 times better. Also, there were so many facts about the Bionicle world that was wrong, I couldnt believe it and thought that Lego itself should have done a much better job editing and making this the game they said it would be.
