Its a shame MS dropped this game. At one time it was 1,000's playing. But the game is still being played http://www.freeallegiance.org/. You need to check it out. Its free and we have a great time there.
More fun than you've ever had before.

Allegiance was and still is a game unlike any other I had ever played before. when Microsoft stopped the servers I stopped playing since I thought that the game was dead (like so many other multi-player games these days) but I found the AllegianceHQ which was then moved to www.freeallegiance.org site and started playing again.
The community has now formed it's own development group to keep creating this game, there is technical support offered through a helpline forum, there is a training program for new players and there is even a server where new players can go to get a basic feel of flight control before heading out into the main servers.
The community has kept this game alive for 4 years without major donations or support from it's original creator and This is without a doubt one of the best games ever made period.

Although Microsoft dropped most of its support for this amazing game, they did release the source code for it last year. In other words you can play it for free, no cd required. So there's really no point in buying the disk except for nostalgia purposes.
Meanwhile the community has taken it upon itself to host servers and develop mods to improve gameplay. Those who played a long time ago should check out what's been changed and new people are welcome to come and play the greatest RTS/FPS hybrid ever.

This game is the absolute BOMB. It's a 3D first person cockpit online 58 player real time strategy space combat game (phew!). It is more fun than ANY game I have ever played. It is truly ground breaking and Microsoft had quite a true hit on their hands. The game is now completely free and controlled by the player community who still develop for it. 6 factions total now with more on the way! I may have tons of other PC games and all the consoles but I still play this game the most because nothing else even comes close. Check out http://www.allegiancehq.org/ to see the latest on what is happening with this game!
Best MMOPG Ever

This is a fantastic game, Here's a short list of the "genres" of game you could see in this one fantastic game
- FPS (Dogfighting, Turret gunning, bomber runs)
- Strategy (Resource management, tech paths, tech resources, minning for income, almost all characteristics of all Strategy Games)
- Simulation (actual space simulator, flying with a large variety of ships and class ships, (Interceptors, Figthers, Scouts, Capitol Ships (Cruiser's Frigades)
- MMOPG Massive, MultiPlayer , gameplay, where the "Team work" is the key to the game.
This is a game none like any other, It is extremely unique. It has amazing graphics, that will blow you away.
the one and one one downfall is the "Learning Curve" it's not a huge curve, the keys are basic as any other game (learning getting used to them) the game is also Joystick Playable and or keyboard / mouse) The curve begins when you try and take or do too many tasks. Try one task and master it then work on another, listen to others and watch everything :) Soon enough it will all fall together..
This is great game is highly recommend, with an Active community and growing.
GoodLuck and Hope this one makes it for you!

This game is absolutely incredible. On one level it is a straightforward multiplayer spacesim, which has you pitted against one or more other teams with a variety of ships at your disposal, everything from a small weak scout ship, to devastating Capitol ships with several manned turrets and missiles capable of taking out entire bases.
On a totally seperate level, each side has a commander who has duties such as expanding your base into new solar systems, harvesting resources which can be spent on new technologies, new bases, or new ships (basic fighters are free, but everything from a heavy fighter to a bomber to a capitol ship requires funds). Additionally, there is a tactical view which allows for easy coordination of assaults and defences. These two components, real-time strategy and space simulation, are seamlessly integrated and leave opportunities for a gameplaying experience beyond any other.
The graphics are entirely functional, and it plays smoothly, with minimal lag. There are no longer Microsoft supported servers available, but rest assured that this game is still alive and well thanks to a very dedicated fan base. These servers are consistently populated, so you shouldn't have any trouble finding people to play with, and now that this game is largely in the hands of the fans, it is receiving updates and modifications beyond anything Microsoft was going to do. Allegiance has my whole-hearted recommendation.

This game stinks so bad they dropped the $10.00 monthly fee. It was a very boring game and their are hardly any other players. Don't waste your money or time on this one... trust me.

While Allegiance does have somewhat of a steep learning curve, those who are willing to put a little bit of time into learning the basics of the game by visiting the various message boards (i.e. IGN's Vault Network Boards) or strategy sites (i.e. GameSpots Allegiance Game Guide) will be amply rewarded for their efforts. Without a doubt, no other online game comes even close to the level of teamwork found within this game (and I've played a lot of them, such as Quake, Tribes, Warbirds, Half-Life, and yes even Counter-Strike). Therefore, if you love games that involve teamwork and don't mind the sci-fi setting, you will definitely come close to nirvana with Allegiance.
With Microsoft's final 1.25 version patch, the game is now FREE to play (no monthly fees) and requires no MSN Zone account (but this means no player stat keeping which wasn't really an accurate rating of commanders and pilots anyways). The number of game factions now totals five (with Belters and the Rixian Unity being added to the original three), giving a good variety of potential strategies. The maximum number of players per server, however, is now capped at 64. During the day, it's usually easy to find a server with around 20 to 30 players in a game, with peak periods reaching up to the 64 player maximum. These peak period games are intense to say the least. Once you understand the basics of the game and participate in one of these 64 player games, you will be hooked on Allegiance for good.
With newer games coming down the line in 2002, I can only hope that they dare to live up to the expectations that Allegiance has set for multiplayer team combat. It will be a hard act to follow. Heck, even today the graphics for the game are still holding their own compared to newer titles. If you're contemplating on getting the game, love teamwork, and enjoy using your head as much as your trigger finger, then Allegiance is definitely for you. Even if you play the game for a single month until that next new title comes out, it will be the most pleasurable month of multiplayer gaming you will have had in a while and well worth the purchase price. Hehe, you might even find yourself returning to the game again after those newer titles don't live up to your expectations!
