In the early nineties, with the arrival of the Super Nintendo, third-party game maker Taito, best known for games like Bubble Bobble and Arkanoid, wanted to try their hand at something completely different - a side-scrolling action game similar to Capcom's Final Fight. What was born from this was Sonic Blast Man. And not too long after, Taito made a sequel, Sonic Blast Man 2. Read on for my review of this game.
PROS:
-The game really manages to give the player a "comic book" feel, which is exactly what Taito was going for. There are a number of comic book-styled elements, all of which help to contribute to the game.
-When compared to other games of this style on the Super Nintendo, this stands out as one of the better ones.
-You now have a choice of THREE characters!
-There's a two-player mode - something the first game lacked.
CONS:
-How many Final Fight rip-offs do we need on one system!?
-The basic plot is boring - this is a weakness of just about every "save the world" styled video game.
-Some stages scroll from right to left. You NEVER do this in a video game!
OVERALL:
If you've got a Super Nintendo and you want a good side-scrolling action-adventure game, consider checking this one out. It puts its predecessor to shame.
