(Second) Best SNES game ever.

The mana series is one of square's best for the super nintendo. SOM has some of the best, if not the best graphics for SNES, the gameplay is very easy to pick up and go, yet very detailed and interesting. The spells are some of the most memorable of any game with the very cool eight elemental spirits. The story is a basic government trying to take over the world that has been done about one million times by now, but back then the story was fresh. The game is so breathtaking that you will want to play this through several times and the whole multiplayer add tons of replayability. The only game better than this for SNES, or ever is the released only in Japan sequel, Secret of Mana 2, or as it is really known, Seiken Densetsu 3.

This game can't be out ranked!

Okay people I can't say much else other than has got to be the best game of all time!! You gotta play it yourself before you judge it though. Granted its doesn't have the best graphics of all time (That award goes to Metal Gear Solid 2 I believe) but the plot is unbeatable. It starts out near a small village and you pull out a sword then things go totally out of wack and you gotta fight boss after boss they're almost constant (But I recommend not rushing through the game, master the weapon skills and deffinately master your magic skills, trust me its worth it and your gonna need it) Secret of Mana has to be the best game of all time even if it IS on one of the oldest systems.

There are many games that are good, but few are great...

Secret of Mana is one of those games. I remember when I played Secret of Mana for the first time my freshman year in high school. Very few RPG games involve you so much int the story that when the action finally slows at a late point of reflection in the game you realize how far your characters have come and how much stronger they are now than when you first began. Secret of Mana is an old game but few games have caused me to keep a system connected long after it's development years are over. This is one of the greats, if you haven't experienced the Secret of Mana, you should try it.

This is my favorite game of all time (with MGS)! It's that good. Everything about it is great, the gameplay, music, storyline, etc. And what's great is that 3 people can play it together (granted you have the multi-player adapter). YOU HAVE TO PLAY THE GAME! EXCELLENT!

fun to play

when i played it at my friends house i liked it alot. The weapons amd the items were pretty cool to fight. The music is good to listen to when you are in the middle of a boss fight. The magic is pretty good to use when you are low on health.

The game has one of the best story lines, which is a good point because it keeps you connected to the game. However it does not use the traditional fighting styles allmost all RPG's use. It really slows the game down, and without a strategy guide you could get lost very easily. This is the most difficult RPG to me with exception to Final Fantasy III. I never finished teh game and i don't intend to.

The Greatest Game in the History of all Nintendo RPGS!!!!!!

To describe this game is such a complicated matter that it takes fifty pages to write just the walkthrough. However, I will explain it the best I can. This game starts out with you wandering cluelessly around. You can get used the the game controlls and explore for awhile, and then you find the Sword of Mana. Its power causes monsters to appear. After awhile you get to fight. The fighting style of this game is unlike any other. You don't get "Magicaly transported to a special scene", you just have your weapons automaticaly taken out and then you can fight or literaly run away. It is the most logical battle style i have ever seen. Then you meet this girl and a litte sprite. As the game progresses you gain acess to diffrent weapons, weapon upgrades, magical powers (both offensive and deffensive), and the cute little dragon named Flammie.
Also, the story line is so in depth that you go from running away, to rescuing a knight, to saving the world, to fufilling your destiny. This game has never met a match and is the only RPG of its kind. The only game that meets it is its sequel, Seiken Densetsu 3, which was never unfortunatly released into the U.S.

The best of its time

For playabilty and plot, Square was unmatched with Secret of Mana. The Final Fantasy series is remarkable, and the Zelda series is always great (Ganondorf of the Ocarina of Time was sinister and suggestive at the same time), but the story of an orphan boy, a defiant girl in love with a soldier of destiny, and a lost, mouthy sprite in search of a way to save their world will always have a special place in my heart.

SoM did things on the Super Nintendo that had other game companies wetting their pants. I hope that Square will update SoM one day, just as they did for FFI & FFII in Final Fantasy: Origins...but that might spoil the beauty and simplicity of such a remarkable game.

CLASSIC game...

To this day, I keep my SNES hooked up only for a few certain games, the most prominent of which is Secret of Mana. Although I've beaten it a good twenty times already, every now and then I'll get bored of these new, 3D, insuperior RPGs and go back to the real classics...

SoM has an excellent storyline, an even better battle system, and great music. You can control three characters (the boy, the girl, and the sprite) alone, letting the CPU take care of the two you're not currently playing with, or, if it's your thing, you can grab a partner and share the control. Each character has their own specialty: one with fighting, another with attack magic, and the final with healing magic. The battle system is not turn-based, which is something I, for one, enjoy.

The entire Seiken Densetsu series (this is Seiken Densetsu 2) is excellent. I would highly recommend buying Final Fantasy Adventure (Seiken Densetsu 1) and Legend of Mana (Seiken Densetsu 4) in addition if you enjoy this game, which I have no doubt you will if you like RPGs. They don't stand up to the quality of Secret of Mana, but they're decent games nonetheless. Unfortunately, Seiken Densetsu 3, in my opinion perhaps the best RPG I've ever played, was never released in the United States, but was translated later as a ROM.

This is an incredible game. Get it quickly, pop it in your SNES, and start the fun.
