Looks great, but plays like Pac Man without the blue meanies. Basically, you drive collecting coins. That is it. The cars are very slow and the lack of excitement is enhanced by the lame music. Save your money or buy Smugler's Run instead. You will thank me.

Actually, it's more like Top Gear Where the ... is the Fun Devil. Sure, you get cool looking cars, but they don't turn very well. So, it is kind of hard to do the missions. You gotta use hand brakes and stuff, which is cool, don't get me wrong. But it also is nerve racking cuz it takes a while to get used to. Well, the single player missions are not satisfying, and the multiplayer is not that fun after all. One thing is for sure, the graphics are well done.
Not bad, but there are better PS2 titles to choose from

Many reviews have compared this game to the Sega Dreamcast game Crazy Taxi. Well, it just doesn't compare. I played Crazy Taxi in the arcades (London-Sega World) for the last several years, and LOVED it. So, I bought Top Gear Dare Devil for the PS2. While the gameplay is not bad, it just didn't live up to my expectations. Run around town is different British type cars and pick up tokens. When you get enough and get to the rally point you get to move on to other areas, and eventually other cars. If you are looking for great racing action for the PS2 I would recommend games such as Formula 1 2000 Ridge Racer V
I compare this game more with Smugglers Run, just more of a street racing game than an off road game like SR. Also, this game is TOTALLY different than Midnight Club--although on paper many of the concepts look similar, they are two completly different racing games.
Happy Motoring!!
The jerky controls made us dizzy

When we first unwrapped this game, we were very excited because of the retro style cars and simplistic game play. Initially, we were very rough with the controls but hoped to improve our driving skills over time. However, after playing for 1/2 hour, we were still tail-spinning and ramming into walls. The controls are non-intuitive (joystick uses only left-right action with slow response times) and the cars are extraordinarily difficult to maneuver (the accelerator is either up or floored...and the car doesn't move forward unless the accelerator is depressed). After an hour or so, we closed our eyes to relieve the nausea and returned to SSX :-)
Horrible controls

I think this game is the worst game ever. When I got this game I thought it was going to be awesome from the picture, DON'T BE FOOLED it is horrible the cars always bash into the walls and you go like 5 mph. I think this could be elligible to be the worst game for PS2. No cops chase you either I mean talk about false advertising. If you want a game ge Driver or Drive 2.
More like .5 stars

This game is by far the worst game I have ever played. It was by far the worst game I have ever played. I would go to my storage and dig out my old Atari before I ever consider playing this game again. To repeat what others have said, the driving control is absolutely ridiculous. Racing games, for the most part, tend to exaggerate the physics of driving, but I have never seen a game that made them worse. On top of that, the purpose was altogether non-existent. Who wants to run around a small section of town crashing into buildings and picking up coins along the way? COINS!!! Please do not buy this game... I don't want to see a Maury Povich show about people who bought this game and then killed themselves.
Not bad, but not good either.

This game is not too bad. The cars are ok, but lame since they are not the real thing. The game play does take getting used to, but once you do, you can do alright. My church has a friday night teen thing, and we rent this for our PS2. I will play it, but I get bored quickly since the game has little change. Coins here, and coins there. I would not recommend you buy this, but if you are trying to kill some time. This will kill some for you.

This game is visually stunning! The modeling of the cities is no less than outstanding with considerable detail. One has dreams of flying hell-bent through traffic, skidding around corners and wreaking havoc throughout (ala Road Rash). But, alas, all the time and effort assembling this game is wasted with the most incredibly poor, lame and uncontrollable vehicles to ever surface in a modern video game system. I was completely amazed at how consistently bad every car performs. Steering is ridiculous; most cars don't handle well above 50MPH! Thus, power slides, controlled skids or hops are impossible, effectively eliminating all fun. I believe most of us would not want a PS2 game that simulated simple city street driving in traffic with, say, a station wagon. Worse, an impossible handling one but, here it is. NO Thrills, NO Stunts, Absolutely NO Excitement!! Drive around erractically and pick up spinning coins. Why is this game called A)Top Gear? and B)Dare Devil? You can't go fast and nothing daring is required to win- only infinite practice. I am not a terribly advanced gamer, However, I do love a great racing/driving game. This is not it! Even old ATARI games had more realistic handling cars. DO NOT BUY IT! I Wouldn't even recommend renting it because to become competent will probably require more time and patience than the length of the rental period. I ended up receiving this as a gift and was compelled to get some value from it. It now sits in the trade-in bin of my local game store while I race around the tube with "ATV Offroad Fury" and "Smugglers Run"- Now that's FUN! Top Gear Daredevil is the ultimate $50 rip-off!!!

I rented this game because they didn't have atv and i wanted a 2 player racing game. The graphics are average but the controls and the objectives are the worst i have ever seen in a video game. I swear the car absolutely will not turn until you're almost at a wall and by then its too late. If you try to brake and turn your car comes to a complete halt. And all you did is drive around and get coins. WHOOOPEEE!!!!!
NOT WORTH EVEN $5

If I were to have played this game at an arcade, I would have put in my 50 cents, and THAT would have been too much to spend on this horrible game. The car physics are nowhere near realistic, and makes having any fun nearly impossible. This game has taught me that an impulse buy based on cool cover art is something that should NEVER be done. I thought this was going to be similar to PS1's DRIVER game (which was awesome), but even an 8-year-old wouldn't enjoy this Top Gear Garbage.
