Some of the levels are too difficult for him but he loves doing the parts he can (again and again and again) and I offered a little help for the more difficult sections. The humor and animation are pretty good. Although I found some of the challenges tough, I'm also an adult and he loves the challenges even if he can't complete them.
Buy it for your youngn's. They'll love it.

This is an awesome game. You can break lots of objects and get "Manliness Awards" For the stuff that you break including Stools,Tables,Boxes,Packages of Flour(I don't understand it either....),garbage cans and more. It has REAL scenes from the movie. Some are re-made in video game format, some are the real thing. The first level is called "No Cheese!"
You have to slide, punch and kick the Krusty Krab. The Krusty Krab is a resturaunt that SpongeBob works at. Then you will see the exact same scene that was in the movie about somebody eating a cheeseburger and (gasp!).....NO CHEESE!!!!!!
The next level is called "I'm Ready.....Depression"
In this level you play as Patrick, SpongeBob's Dim-Witted but loveable friend. You have to fight mutated peanut guys with hammers(once again, I do NOT understand)to save spongebob. For he has been kidnapped by giant peanut mutated people!!!!!
There's more....I just haven't played that far........
THANKS FOR READING!

Like many grown ups, I fell in love with Spongebob, Patrick, Sandy, and the rest. It seemed that things were looking up for the ole U S of A if something so interesting and original could catch on with a generation of kids. And so it was a way that I could reach out and bond with the current crop of youngsters. Not having any myself, I originally found myself having a hard time making connections to my new lady friend's six year old. He seemed nice and sociable on the outside, but it was hard for us to be comfortable for long periods. When I found out how much he liked Spongebob, I was willing to watch and it turned out we loved it and loved the same things! Squidward--delicious! Mr Krabs? perfect as he is. And Patrick is so deeply satisfying on so many levels!
There was a time when my lady friend was frustrated that her son and I were so religious about watching Spongebob--so in a way it was a success. But kids can really drive a wedge between members of a couple, and I thought a Spongebob videogame would be a good way of occupying him without it seeming like I was no longer "with" him. Since we both liked the movie, I thought this might be the one.
I imagined that it would be to other video games what the television show is to other kids' shows. But this is a pretty conventional game, which means it is pretty boring for a grown-up. You go around collecting the virtual equivalent of pennies--shiny things not really worth bending over to pick up. But the game is still hard enough to be frustrating for a 6 or 7 year old, and I found myself constantly called over to "help" out. (In fact, even when he didn't call me, it was hard to watch him mess up in a key transition that an adult could manage.) Then I was stuck between a mom and child, both increasingly irritated. I was spending all my time trying to get him over a particular gap, and he felt like he could never be as good as me. But most troubling, this game has that horrible effect like many others of going a wee bit back in time every time you "die," you feel like you are stuck in a time warp. This sort of eternal return might be philosophically interesting, but I don't consider it a fun evening.
This game sticks too close to the conventions. Let's see a Spongebob game that is as radical as the show was--for example, in breaking with the idea of continuity completely! [36]
Warning - This is a different (and inferior) game.

I enjoyed the PC version of the game. So, I bought this game so I could play on my PS2.
Same title, same box art = same game , right? Wrong! This is a totally different and inferior game. They just use the the title and box art from the PC version to cheat you out of your money.
Beware, THQ and Spongebob use deceptive advertising.
Be sure to borrow or rent a copy to see if you like it, first.
Good... but challenging

First of all I am 13 years old. I think this game is not to hard or not to easy. The gameplay is great and you are always doing different things. I defintaly don't think this game is for real gamers who like the advanced big name games.
Not for kids!!!

Hello! Doesn't THQ have a marketing office? And how can ESRB rate this game for EVERYONE? Probably just because there is no nudity included. It's very surprising someone would conceive a video-game which is based on a character that appeals to kids under 10 that is so hard that even an adult finds difficult, if not impossible, to use it. I bought this game for my kids (5 and 6 years old) both fans of Spongebob. They could not play this game without my help and even so, not beyond level 4. They soon become frustrated and lost interest in the game after half an hour of playing it, as they got stuck with some impossible obstacle to overcome. What is the point of having a game who's based on a popular kid's character and that kids can't play? Instructions found in the booklet annexed to the game are confusing and poorly written. They're of no help at all. When I compare this game to others available for Playstation 2 (ie. Gran Turismo 3) that are truly masterpieces and quite enjoyable, I cannot but advise against buying this particular Spongebob title.
An Awesome Game For Kids!!

This game is great...If your 13 or younger. I despies older people watching and enjoying spongebob as if he were some God. Wearing shirts and boxers of him gloating about how they watched the show the day before. It is a time to put an end to this misery over this terrible creature. Nevertheless the game is great!!. Graphics gameplay....Hell a kid won't know the difference but its good for them. Unfortunally the humor in the game is just as warped and subliminal as in the show and the movie though for kids it is alright. The overall apperance of the game is great and is certainly easy to play except for a few tough levels in which you can easily help your child through. If you catch any adult near this game officialy declare them an outcast and stay away from them at all costs. This game is awesome only if your 13 or younger!!
Movie: Really good, Game: Less so

The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie game is the greatest game in the UNIVERSE, better than Crash Twinsanity, Sonic Heroes and Tekken 5!
All of the above are lies. The movie was extremely good, the game is painfully average.
The graphics are fine. Kinda like the Urbz but toned down. A 6/10.
Voices: Repeative, SFX: Repeative, Music: Repeative. Sound: Repeative. THQ and Heavy Iron could make the sound a little more impressive. 5/10.
The gameplay puts the F in Frustrating. I'm currently stuck at the "Shell city, Dead ahead" level. Two playable characters for your frustration. SpongeBob: Stupid moves. SpongeBowl move is a loser. SonicWave Guitar (SWG) sucks. Repeative! Patrick: Repeative, Repeative, Repeative, Repeative, Repeative, Repeative, Repeative, Repeative, Hugely REPEATIVE!!!
Graphics-
Characters: 7.5: Repeative animation, cartoony, unfocused.
Backrounds: 8.5: Repeative, cartoony but nice.
Effects: 3.5: Repeative, hugely repeative and ugly.
Sound-
Voices: 6.0: Hugely Repeative but original movie cast in place.
SFX: 5.5: Repeative, cartoony, average.
Effects: 4.5: Repeative, very repeative.
Gameplay-
SpongeBob: 4.0: Repeative, frustrating, dull.
Patrick: 5.5: Repeative, frustrating, average.
Patty Wagon: 0.0: Repeative, uncontrollable, very crappy.
SWG Challenge: 2.5: Repeative, crappy, tedious.
Figthing: 3.5: Repeative, frustrating enemies.
Content-
Replay Value: 7.5: You play it several times, then return it.
Lenght: 9.5: Far too long, far too long, far too long, far...
Difficulty: 10: HARD, H-A-R-D! Way too hard. Really hard...
Overall-
Overall: 4.5: Repeative, repeative, so repeative that the repeativity repeats repeativly. REPEATIVE!!!
-FINAL VERDICT-
Curiosity killed the cat. Repeativity killed the sponge. Shame. I wanted this to work but this is waaaaaaaaay too repeative to me. Worth a rent. Not worth a buy, unless you are dumb.
Do not buy it.
Don't buy it!
Don't even think about clicking the 'Add to cart' button, avoid it!
AVOID IT!!!
Buy Ratchet & Clank.
Buy Destroy All Humans!
Buy Jak 3.
Buy whatever. Just not this or Shrek 2.
Bye
