Side Scrolling Zelda is still great!

Super Mario Brothers must have been a much bigger seller than the original Zelda, because Zelda II is a side scrolling action game with a bit of map / role playing involved. Don't let that throw you off, it is still an excellent game, that has challenge and far better graphics than the original! There are six palaces to conquer, with lots of old enemies, new tricks and lots of new faces. Once you beat the game, then you have a whole new second quest to beat! This game has hours of intrigue and challenge, but its for regular Nintendo!

Sequel to "A Link to the Past"

"Zelda II: the adventures of Link" is possibly the best one that ever hit the NES. With "Zelda 3"(which is actually the prequel), and the other 2 "Z" games which are the sequels.

I wasn't TOO much into "The Legend of Zelda", which came to the NES in 1987, but this one got me quite impressed. The puzzles are great, the weapons, items etc. are awesome, and the bosses have an excellent challenge.

This one may be for more of the advanced players though, due to that its much harder than any of the others in the series. Be sure to also check out: "Ocarina of Time" on N64.(another classic "Zelda" game.)

Its good but its hard, and complicaded

Zelda II here we go

a cool Game in deed the caracther is painted well and nice colors in the graphics
Its a mix between platformer and adventure

there is loads of levels everywhere and you have to go in search of keys, light(to see in the cave levels) and ofcource)

but entering the castle going for the keys and the big boss is very hard, also going thrugh all these caves, castles and villiges that are spread allover the map, i never know if im going the right way and all the deserts and forests!

its a very cool game Link walks around with his sword and sheild and you can get difrent types of magic... this game has variation and all kinds of levels in the villige it mainly about talking and finding yer way to the magic or geting clues how to finish parts of the game if any of the people living in the villige turns to a bat watch out!

well its a cool game but very comfusing and hard
so i can only give it three stars because what happens when i play is im not always sure if i go the right way(because there is so many levels) then i end up in a castle pr a dark cave and then soon enough, I die
and the clues you get from the people like " to find light go south" or somthing like that really doesn't tell you much

This was one of the first Nintendo games I owned when I received the system for a present when I was about eight years old. It's still a great game even today, when I play it. And it's probably the best Zelda sequel Nintendo made. This was one of those games you played and played until your fingers actually hurt and when you slept, you just still felt like you wanted to play it. The game takes an almost sadistic turn once you cross the ocean to the Eastern Hyrule section near the end of the game, which is one of the greatest challenges in any video game I've ever played. If you're looking for challenge, play this game. If you want an easier Zelda game, I'd say play the third one or any of the Nintendo64 ones, as they are very simple.

a different game in the series.....but still a good one

It took me a long time to give this game a chance. I am a huge Zelda fan but this one seemed a little too different. But was i suprised when i started playing! The overworld map is similar to the original zelda game. But u run into random battles like final fantasy and gain exp points to go up in levels. When u run into battles or enter a cave or dungeon....it turns to side-scrolling. It is a difficult game considering u have 3 lives and when u lose them u continue from the center of the world map. Kind of like mario games. So this game is actually very fun despite the differences from other games in the series. Give it a shot and u may enjoy it.

Not quite as classic, but more addictive than Zelda I

Zelda II has its share of detractors because everything they loved about Zeldas I, III, and the Zelda Game Boy games is absent from this installment. Gone is the bird's eye view combat mode that dominates the other titles. Gone are the intricate dungeon puzzles. In its place is a side-scrolling actioner combined with elements of a classic format RPG (complete with experience points, levels, spells and the rest). I first played this game when I was 12, and my initial reaction at the time was, 'Oh no! What have they done?' Needless to say, 15 minutes later I was hooked. By the time I had completed the game, I liked it better than the first. What it lacks in sheer scope, length, and originality, it far makes up for in terms of challenge. This is easily the most difficult Zelda game of all, which - considering that all future Zelda installments are unbelievably easy - is a good thing.

While I enjoyed this game more, I must admit that the first and third titles demonstrated more ingenuity, originality, and were better produced considering their respective release dates. Zelda II is -barely- recognizeable as a Zelda game in the way we think of one, and part of me suspects that Mr. Miyamoto (the brains behind all other major Zelda releases) was barely involved in this installment. Once you get past the shock of the different format, however, the game easily draws you in. One other disclaimer: I am partial to RPGs, which may explain my preference of this entry. But part of the reason is also inexplicable - there is something more subconsciously fascinating about Zelda II. It's a less monotonous than the other Zeldas, and more bizarre, moody, even random - in some respects it is even comparable to Ultima: Exodus (another classic NES title, released the same year, which I highly recommend to anyone who likes Zelda II). In any case, this title is not to be missed, is worthy of the Zelda name if only for quality's sake, and represents the most challenging entry in a franchise that has lately been lacking in that area.

Link+Sidescroller=Zelda?

I got Zelda II a couple of days ago and felt it out. There are two parts to it: exploring Hyrule in overhead and going into buildings and towns in side view. In overhead view, you cannot use your sword. You must explore but when you see the blackish baddies pop up and you walk into them, you will battle enemies in side view. The towns are the same as well. The good thing is there are a few people but the towns have an amazing resemblance of the NES version of Mario's Time Machine. What turns me off is the palaces are also 2-D! What happened to the freedom of Zelda I? And it's another Zelda is in trouble story only she is cursed and put to sleep. One relief: no having to go to stores and no collecting rupees! All items can be found by townspeople and palaces. This game is very challenging but lacks the pleasure of Zelda I and A Link to the Past. You really have to explore to get the job done. The music starts identical to the original Zelda score but quickly changes to a new them song. If you ask me, this reminds me of Super Mario 3 but a little more innovative.

What were they thinking

Unfortunately although I do own this game I feel it was nearly a deathblow to the entire series. Zelda games are a classic the first game with saving capacity. It truly was a ground-breaking game because in stead have your old school side scrolling games you had freedom of movement, different items to utilize, and puzzling dungeons to master. I feel whoever cam up with idea for a side scrolling zelda game owes us hard-core Zelda fans an apology.

I am a big fan of the zelda series. This is a terrible insult to the zelda series. buy the first one for ninetendo, buy the super nintendo one, and buy all the game boy ones and 64 ones, just do your self a favor and dont buy this one. its nothing like the other games in the series. u fight from a side view but walk around from an overhead view, the dungens r awful, just spare your self of this one.

what r u people on???
