Waste Of Time

I bought this game based on some of the positive reviews I found here on Amazon, but I, too, ended up being extremely dissapointed. I've played many games of this genre and I found this one to be, well, distracting to say the least. The story line is ok, the mood of the game is excellent. I could even deal with the "walking" (clicking to move one step at a time), but most of the puzzles have absolutely nothing to do with the story line. I enjoy games with puzzles that actually move the plot line forward. In Dark Fall, you are just solving a lot of puzzles just for the sake of solving them. There doesn't seem to be any continuity or flow throughout this game. If you don't write down EVERYTHING you see, you might just miss an important clue...but then you're also left spending all your time writing down stupid numbers from every business card and menu you come across. Aggrivating and a waste of time! I actually reached the ending scene before I collected all the clues....so I had to go back and figure out a whole bunch of annoying "clues", some that actually lead to something, but most lead to dead ends. Oh, and your little "helper" - Timothy - is really no help at all.
If you want a good game that is actually fun to play, try Syberia, or any of the Myst games. Don't waste your time or money on this one.

Scary and Engrossing

This game was great!! The storyline was engrossing - more facts as you explored about the missing people, including your brother. Ghosts, noises, visions. If you like character interaction, this is not the game for you. This is - explore, read, take MANY notes. Normally I get annoyed taking a lot of notes but in this game it was like being a detective as you had to piece information together to solve the variety of puzzles. I thoroughly enjoyed it and understand that a DF2 is in the works. Recommend this game!!

Definitely Top Ten

Yes, it does contain a lot of reading, and it does help to take notes. But it's worth it. I've been at this for several hours now & I can hardly get out of my chair to go to work. Don't play this at night alone, the sounds are really creepy! It's a 1st person game, so you don't have the personality of Gabriel Knight; & the graphics, while excellent, are not as startlingly beautiful as Syberia, but despite these flaws it is a terrific game, not too easy but not requiring a lot of cheating like some games. Much creepier than Black Mirror. Big plus for those who hate extensive dialogue -- you're all alone in this creepy place! Or are you....?

Good game. Great Story

This was a really good game. The spooky factor alone is worth the purchase. No character interaction at all. I like at least a little. The story was really good. I did have a few problems with the puzzles. I found some of them to be difficult and if you intend to play this game without a walkthru, then you will need to write down every (and I mean every) clue you get through out the game.
otherwise a good game.

The Journal - a very exciting game

The game has it all. A lot of places to explore and new good puzzles. You can feel the creepy atmosphere when you play. The puzzles are challenging and the grafic is exelent. I hope they will make more games like this.

Not For Everyone

I bought this game based on the positive reviews, I had high hopes for it. I love adventure and point and click games. I have found more interesting games for free on the internet. I found it incredibly boring and not at all scary. I played it for about and hour or two, quit and uninstalled it. I felt completely ripped off. I didn't feel like I had any idea where it was going. I would say save your money and try "The Longest Journey" or "Syberia", these were much more fulfilling.

Wow.... Creeeeepy!!

This game is great! It's not much to look at. The graphics are a little dated, but with the lights off, and the sound up..... ooooh boy!! It'll make you wet your pants sometimes!! The footsteps on the winding staircase ahead of you.... and they seem to be coming down the stairs... oh my gosh.... this game will freak you out!! You won't regret it!!

Not bad...for the price

Darkfall: The Journal was a decent little game. I expected to be a lot more scared than I was, though. Here are a few issues:
1 - Too short. I was able to finish the entire game in two afternoon/evenings of gameplay.
2 - Extensive note-taking required. In some parts there was so much information to write down, I did screen prints to save myself from writer's cramp.
3 - Since the game revolves around finding the hotspot, which may or may not be on a particular screen, the game becomes a tedious exercise in clicking all over each screen, trying to find the elusive hotspots. Some critical hotspots are practically invisible and easy to miss.
4 - The "Load" and "Save" buttons are right next to each other. If you cancel out of the "Load" dialog, it will load the last save game anyway. At one point I wanted to save but accidentally hit load. I cancelled out but it still loaded my last save, causing me to lose several hours of gameplay.
5 - One of the games great aspects is character development. You spend the whole game getting to know these people and gathering clues, building up to what you expect will be a grand finale. However, the ending is very lackluster. All these people you worked the whole game to help, simply disappear after a quick "thank you" from one of them.

For the price I paid, it wasn't too bad, but it ended up being somewhat of a let-down.

Mind-Boggling and Arm-Acheing

I played this game after my older sister played. I listened in on it, but didn't pay attention to what was on the game. I thought I would try my hand at it on my computer. Two days later after finishing the game, I don't even want to look at it again.

The graphics are okay, the sound effects are done really well, but for the most part, ARRGGHH!! My arm is acheing after all the click, click, clicking around. Once I had got to the end, I was just about hitting my head on the wall, because of all the stuff that I had to get, but didn't have just to solve the last bit of it.

The story had promise, but there was an awful lot of useless information in the game that didn't coincide with what was releavant to the game. If you want a good story try the Atlantis games by Dreamcatcher, even the Riddle of the Sphinx's were good.

I'm holding out hope that the sequel to this game is good, but we'll just have to wait and see what the reviews have to say.

well worth buying

I really enjoyed this game from start to finish. the puzzles were not overly difficult and the storyline was awsome. it kept your interest thruout. Even when the game took you back to the same places over and over there were enough changes in events that it was not redundent. Would highly recommend this game to anyone who likes the advernture games with a bit of a spooky side to it.
