For the time, a killer game

Short of the Dragon Warrior series, this is the only really good RPG on the NES. This game does differ from its sequels in that you pick the classes of characters you want to use, instead of having a set cast of chatacters, and you have the whole party for the whole game, instead of switching them in and out, gaining and losing allies as the story progresses. By today's standards, kind of old school, but worth playing.

The First of Many to Come!

Not many people probably remember or have even played this one, but it was the 1st of a fabulous series to come. The graphics and music were pretty basic, but the gameplay was pretty fun and it was cool that the characters changed their look after you returned the crystal to the dragon king. It was a slow game to start with, but as you played more, it got more interesting. They possibly could've made it a bit better, but all in all it was a good game.

The First... The Best...

Final Fantasy has an excellent plot, much better than others (seriously). More on this later. The battle scenes are fair, and the gameplay is good. The game's plot consists of FF7's and FF5's. Here are passages of the storyline. "The earth begins to rot" (FF7), "The wind stops" (FF5). This game was one of the first FF's to be made. The first one was FFLegend, which had NO plot, and NO interactivity at all. So THIS game is a pretty good game, should keep you busy for a month or two.

one of the best rpgs ever

i had the pleasure of playing this game since it first came out. yes, me and my father were at toys-r-us in line in 1990 to buy this game fresh out the box. it was the best
it has good character classes (fighter, thief, black belt, black mage, white mage-which i thought was a girl and later found out its actually a guy-, and red mage-this class should be in more ff games-) the story is very simple(as all good things in life are). collect the orbs. save the world. cant ask for anything better then that. it introduced the best fighting system in rpgs in my opinion, the multi character turn-based battle system.(action rpgs are ok but i wish more games had this system now a days). you must play this classic. it is so choice. if you have the means, i highly recomend it!

Old School Still The Best!!!

I was a kid when the very first FINAL FANTASY came out, and i wasn't much on RPG's. I hadn't played any, but just from watching other people play them, i thought, now how can that be fun, you're not even doing the fighting yourself. How wrong could I have been?! FINAL FANTASY was the first one i tried and i was addicted to RPG's from then on. I have played other RPG's (Zelda, Dragon Warrior, and others), but FINAL FANTASY will always be the S*&T in my opinion. I have tried the newer versions, but i'm always drawn back to the old school versions (FF:Mystic Quest, FFII, FFIII, and also FFIV). Like I said though, just my opinion, but the first FINAL FANTASY will always be in a class of it's own!!!

AWESOME!!

Is this really what I think it is?

If this is what I think it is, than I'm surprised. This seems to be the Cartridge of the Nintendo game that came out in 1987 in Japan and 1990 in America. If it ever comes in stock, order it, frame it, and put it on your wall. This was the first Final Fantasy kiddies.

Not Worth Playing

A lot of people think any game with Final Fantasy in the title is a great game, but with this game it's not the case.

First of all let's look at the story...oh wait a minute, they're basically isn't much of a story. There is a story, but it's the simple sort of thing you'd expect from a platformer(not that platformer's are bad, but this is an RPG). Not only are your characters generic adventurers, but they don't even have default names.

There gameplay also isn't very good. You travel from place to place collecting items, but there really isn't much to distinguish the different places. You also don't learn magic by leveling up. You learn it buying it, which takes the fun out of learning new spells. When you're in battle, if someone attack an enemy, but someone else kills it first that attack hits nothing. You also have magic points for each magic attack, but that's not really a bad thing.

The sound is pretty standard NES, but the game has some pretty good songs and some classic ones like the opening song which appeared in other Final Fantasy games.

All in all this game is very outdated and if you want to play a decent NES RPG, I'd suggest Destiny of an Emperor or one of the Dragon Warrior games. I'd also stay clear of the Japanese Final Fantasy 2 & 3. They're about the same as the first one, and it's no wonder they skipped 2 & 3. All other Final Fantasy games are worth playing.

This game is the best RPG for SNES, that includes Chrono Trigger and the other Final Fantasy. It is a HUGE shame that it doesnt get the credit it deserves, like CT and the other FF's.

TOO HARD!!!!!!!!!

This game is way too hard to be fun. Of all the final fantasy games this one is the worst. The PS1 version is a lot better and not has hard as finding this one. Which is long out of print.
