a quick adrenaline rush!

This is the kind of game that you play if games like the original Starfox for the SNES appeal to you. Don't expect incredible depth, but rather, gaze at the awesome graphics and music while blasting a bunch of ammo at waves and waves of oncoming enemies. I love it. The only drawback is that the game is waay too short for the money- I would say a good three hours is enough to beat this game from the moment you pick it up if you are a seasoned gamer. With that said, I can never get sick of replaying this game because the graphics and superficial flashiness are kind of addictive to me. If you are expecting a hardcore shoot-em-up on the level of Ikaruga, you will definitely be disappointed.

Awesome Shooter

Nanostray looks and feels like most shooters but it gets a bit more cramped as you must hug walls occasionally so you don't explode as big ships fly by you. Its a very nice addition for any shooter fans out there. Is it your typical R-Type game? Sure but the graphics are awesome along with being able to switch shot types on the fly instead of having to unlock new shots later on. Its a bit odd at first learning to switch weapons on the touch screen but like most shooters you have to memorize areas to beat them and it should come as no surprise that you must memorize the weapon selection screen also so you can switch weapons with only a tiny glance. It is fast paced like most shooters so just a flick of the button via a fingernail will do the trick.

If you love shooters this is a must own! It is also one of the few shooters for the DS so get it before it disappears!

Is it short? Of course, its a shooter! Fighters and Shooters are both a bit short but these games (unlike many new games) can be played over and over again and you can adjust the difficulty for more of a challenge. Shooters like this have always been fast and furious and frantically chaotic but most of all, Fun.

This game is basically a classic space shooter game with better effects. It's not incredibly fun IMO.

Nice Graphics

This game is really fun and it is officially the best graphics that I have seen for the Nintendo DS to date. You have the option of 4 shooting styles for your air ship.
To keep this review short, game play is extremelyfun and easy to pick up on. If you use a stylus pointer instead of your thumb on the touch screen, it will take away from your experience since you may need to switch your shooting style according to the territory. The multiplayer is excelent as well. The only downside is that the adventure aspect of the game is very short, but the challenges are extremely hard and will keep you constantly picking this game back up, even when the story is already over.

Nanostray: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Nanostray is one of the best DS games, in my opinion. There are 3 modes of play, wireless single-card download play, extras to unlock, and 8 kick-ass weapons.

However, there are some flaws. For instance, the touch-screen control is jerky and forced. It can be really annoying when there are enemies all around you and you need a special weapon, but you touch the wrong icon, and an enemy ship slams into you and kills you.

Also, the Adventure Mode is very easy to beat. I've had it for a week now and I've amost beat it already. But that doesn't mean it won't take a while to beat the entire game. You still have Arcade and Challenge Modes to beat.

All in all, if you are a part modern, part retro gaming fan, definitely get this game. Bye.

Breath taking

No doubt anyone who sees this game will have to agree that it's one of the coolest looking DS games. You pilot a ship with a certain number number of ships(Which can take multiple hits), energy which can be used for stronger weapons, limited smart bombs, and you try to survive the level and beat the boss. The graphics are great and the music is pretty cool too. You can go through Adventure and try to clear all the levels leading up to the credits, do arcade mode where you can find your nanocode on a level played in this mode which can be posted on nanostray.com to be ranked among the best in the world, or take a shot at challenge mode to clear the missions and get unlockables. When you first get the game you can go through adventure mode in about 2 hours. After you tried or cleared adventure mode on all the difficulties, got your nanocode for every level trying to improve your score a few times while doing this, and at least took a try at all the challenges, you just seem to lose interest in the game. Some of the challenges in the game seem impossible to me and the constant lag in the game seems to annoy me, but this is a pretty good game

Pretty improssive for the DS

I like Ikaruga on the gamecube so I thought I would get this game which lot of people compare to Ikaruga type game. I am glad I did. It is the same type of game like Ikaruga but it has it's own unique gameplay.

This game has 4 weapon types as well as big-bombs vs. the two weapon types in Ikaruga. The weapons are all tactically different in this game... one shoots straith, another curves, and then there is one that shoots from the sides only and another that locks on to whatever is hit and keeps doing damage as long as you hold the attack or the enemy is destroyed. Additionally each weapon has its own special energy attack... overall the weapons provide a good variety of ways to defeat enemies effectively. The stages, action, challenge level etc are all great. It has the most action going on of any DS game I have played so far.

The game has single-cart multiplayer for up to two players which I like playing and gives lot of replayability. The 'adventure' mode has 8 stages which one could probably complete on the normal difficulty in a few days. Other modes such as the challenge mode would probably take people long long time since much more difficult.

My only criticism is that the weapon switching can only be done with the touch screen. It might have been better to do the touch screen but also allow the DS shoulder buttons to cycle through the weapons cause with so much going on in the top screen it isn't always possible to look at the touch screen to change the weapons.

Fun but short

Nanostray is a a fun arcade style game. Thhe game has no story and has only has 5 misson With three settings. The game also has five different wepons each with special wepons, you also have bombs. you must use theys wepon to destroy wave after wave of ships to get a high score.

A great vertical scroller

Definately a fun game, but the learning curve is rather steep. If you like vertical scroller games similar to Raiden or Raptor: Call of the Shadows, this game is atleast worth a try.

Fun Shooter

As far as scrolling shooters go, this is one of the more fun ones I've played. The graphics look really good for the DS and it does have some challenging moments. I can't really comment on the co-op or multiplayer aspects of the game, but if you want a fun way to spend some time (and bring back some fond memories of scrolling arcade shooters) then get this game.
