Avoid this game like the plague

This is the dullest PS2 game I have played this year. Its even worst then the first Mummy game for the PS1. It only took me a day to beat this game. Some of the problems this game has is that it does not look like a next generation console game at all. Some of the PS1 games look better than this. The character animation for the models look stiff and there is no lip movement (the demo version I saw a few months ago had lip movement) when they are talking even though they have mouths. The music is uninspiring unlike the music for the first game. The voice acting is horrible and Alex the brat kid is even more annoying. The characters say all sorts of stupid stuff which makes the movie version acting seem like masterpiece theater. There is not much game play here, you mostly just find your way to the end of the level by finding a few keys to unlock doors and you can run by most of the enemies instead of fighting them. The fighting in the game is also boring. The fighting would be fine if it was a 2D game but as a 3D game, it needs more variety to the character's fighting style. The spells that Imhotep uses are not that interesting except for sucking your enemies souls to replenish his health. All his other spells are not that useful. The controls for the character needs more tweeking and the camera movement behind your character is sometimes a problem. The only real challenging part of the game is trying to defeat the scorpion king in the last level. After you beat the game, you are treated to a scrolling text. No neat CGI animations or even footage from the movie to watch at the end of the game. Its very sad the way this game came out. It had so much potential to be a very good PS2 game but I guess happy hour at the pub was far more important to the British developers of this game as they threw this beta trash out to us to chew on.

I only rented this game, and I brought it back the same night! I spent six bucks only and feel ripped off! The characters have horrible controls, move clunkily, do not jump, Etc. It feels like you're steering a vehicle, not a character! Granted, as Imhotep, stealing the soul of an enemy is kind of cool at first, but afterwords, watching the same exact animation over and over again is just boring. Playing as Rick, the voice acting sounds like a drunken mental patient doing an imitation of Brendan Frasier, and the whole level you are trying to save your annoying British kid (personally, I'm glad the annoying twerp fell down the hole, and had no incentive to go after him). Either person you play as, the level design is horrible, each room looks the same, so you have no points of reference. The bad guys look all the same, and the AI is so poor that you can just run past them, especially since with the horrible controls you end up almost dying trying to steer your character at them. Obviously the creators decided that they could cash in with a good movie license, and didn't give a second thought to making a game people would be able to even tolerate. Selling a game like this to poor unsuspecting people should be a crime! Avoid this like the plague, please! Maybe they'll think twice next time!
Worst game I have ever played.

I almost bought this game during two separate shopping trips, but decided to rent it first. Boy, was I glad I did. THIS GAME [ is bad] I can't believe it's a PS2, it seems more like a Game Boy Color, it's that bad. The voices are bad, the characters lips don't move and that really throws me off and the controls are horrible. The best thing about this game is the graphics on the box. When I returned this to the video store I rented Devil May Cry. Whoa, what a difference. DMC is caviar to this hunk of junk. Definitely rent it first, it is not worth [the money]
The Mummy Returned and it can go back again.

I was looking forward to this game as I enjoyed the film. I have a number of titles on PlayStation 2, yet this has to be the most disapointing. A combination of poor graphics (that wouldn't look out of place on a NES, let alone a 21st Century console) and wooden gameplay make this a sub-standard product indeed. I hope that when the Mummy comes back again, he will find a better product to put his name on.
Metal Gear Mummy?

I was looking forward to this game lots. Sadly it is really poor. The graphics are very weak, they look like PS-One graphics. The character's are very wooden as they move along. The landscapes are dull & not intresting at all. The gameplay was weak too. Maybe they should have told the development team to wait for the next film instead. Avoid this game, wait for Metal Gear Solid 2. I feel that this is a very poor standard for PS 2.

Ok, this is the WORST game I've ever played. The ontrols handle like a shopping cart with three wheels missing and the graphics are rather scribbly at times. The story isn't even intruiging, if there even is one hidden in the shadows, and the option that you can be good or bad scarcely helps. Overall, it stinks, so don't buy it, don't play it, or even better, never even think about it again. If you like these kinds of games, try Batman Vengeance or Rayman Revolution.

I got my Playstation 2 for my birthday. With it were a number of classic titles - and - the Mummy Returns. After playing Devil May Cry I knew that this was going to be the best birthday ever. That was until I booted up Mummy Returns. I tried to enjoy it but I found myself going back to DMC. Compared to the other titles, this just looks dated and badly put together. Graphics are bad and the characters only resemble those of the film. Worst PSX2 game... EVER.

I'd like to point out that on buying this game for my son aged 12 he was very upset that he completed it within 3 hours. I was most shocked that I bought him such a short-lived game. He has asked me to write a review of the Mummy Returns warning other people that there is not a lot of game play elements in this title. I now have taken it back to the store for a replacement game that will keep him more occupied at least for a couple of days.

I agree with most of the comments in the reviews below. This game is really a sad attempt at making a Mummy game. Sadly the Mummy's curse has struck again & made a duff one instead!
This game was average, I suppose

This game, in my opinion is only entertaining when you beat the levels and move on. Each level is so borign and the game is very difficult. It gets very frusterating when you are unable to beat it. I do like games to be challenging, but this is too far. It also has a weak plot and very cheap animation. I really believe they could have done a better job making this game.
