Great new features and an even better variety of songs!

Wow! What a step up from the first version! When one is playing in a large group of people, it's great to be able to sing a shorter version of the song so there is less waiting. The medly feature is also fun. Remember Bill Murry on SNL as a lounge singer switching from song to song? You get to do this too with your choice of 3-5 songs. Also, songs load much faster.

There is a big debate as to if Komami should have just put out an expansion disk and not a full new game, but with these new features, I'll take the new game!

Buy this one on day one, and also look for the new special PS2 handheld Mic! It isn't very expensive, but it will improve your scores and make playing even more fun!

Fun and teaches you how to sing!

I thoroughly enjoyed the first version of this karaoke game and was told that you would be able to buy a song expanision disc.
Now instead of getting that I see that a vol.2 will be made seems like a way to make you send more money when all I want is more songs. WHAT HAPPEN TO THE EXPANDSION DISC???

this game is good for Gen-Y and their parents. but people in between might not find enough songs they are comfortable singing right off the bat. the songs are mostly late pop songs and 70s songs. there are very few from the 80s and 90s. the modern pop songs that were included in this game are not very catchy, sing-able tunes, in my opinion. although this is not a bad game, i prefer the first volume. the new modes of play are nice-- the quick start mode is exremely useful, but i found the medley mode to be only so-so. the new characters are interesting, cool, and even hilarious, and the new venues are nice also (they can be unlocked by playing showtime mode). the music recorded for this volume is a little bit updated from the original recordings, and so even "oldies" have a modern edge. that's not a criticism, just an observation.

by the way, this is a standalone game, not an expansion disc. you don't have to have the first disc in order to play this one.

i agree with a previous post-- get the handheld mic. the headset makes it hard to hear the overall sound, and it is a hassle switching when playing multiplayer modes.

Not an expansion disk, but a lot of fun!

This game is deffinatly NOT an expansion disk, but rather a fully revamped game with a whole new library of songs. It looks like a blast to play and i will be picking one up as soon as it comes out.

Cool game, but I must say the first volume was a lot closer the real versions of the songs. I like the song selection and the new venues crack me up - especially the jumping headlights in the garage! I love Karaoke Revolution!!

an actual buyer...

So far all of the reviewers (good and bad reviews) have been solely out of knowledge pre actually buying the game. However i bought the game and I think it is much better than the first one... I love that now there are a lot more characters (including one in what looks like a whinnie the pooh suit, which has to be unlocked) and more game choices. For example they have medley mode (probably the best new addition) where you can pick 5 songs or do it randomly (which is much more fun). What happens is it plays minute long snipits of the songs to sing, making it easier to do bunches of songs in smaller time. In random you dont know whats coming so u just go with it.
Overall i love this game and the new songs (toxic, I believe in a thing called love, etc.) are great!!

I'm not sure anymore what Generation Y or whatever another reviewer was talking about means anymore...but I can talk about the game as someone who was born in the end of 1963 and hasn't been paying attention to popular music for the past 5 years or so...

I got this game on day one, and I didn't know about half the songs...and I still love it! There are songs I remember from when I was a kid; those are fun to sing! Then there are songs I only heard bits of when seeing TV commericals for the local Top-40 radion station -- "Hit me baby one more time" as an example. No problem! I listened to the song on training mode, then played it on the very forgiving "Easy" level. What Fun! An hour later I had a Platinum Record on Expert Level! This game teaches you how to sing and there is huge variety. Version 2 has lots of gameplay improvements too!

Pick up the hand held mic (ABSOLUTELY!), and version 1 without the mic as well, and you've got a sure fire hit for any age group gathering. If you are shy about singing in public, buy it for yourself and play alone. In a few weeks you'll look for an excuse to sing with others. Really.

This game would have been worth it at double the price! (Version 1 as well!) And no, I don't work for Konami or anyone else in the industry, but I'd certainly consider it with games like this!

OMG! THIS IS AWESOME!

I'm just going to flatout say it... EVERYONE SHOULD BUY THIS GAME! Everything about it great! The songs, the characters, ect. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because I dont know some of the older songs like Heartbreak Hotel and Jesse's Girl. I really wish they would put Everytime or A Thousand Miles on it... but overall ... I LOVE IT! I recommend it to everybody who likes singing or music. Even if your shy in front of a crowd, like me, it helps boost your cofedience. I CAN'T WAIT TILL THEY MAKE KARAOKE REVOLUTION 3! AND... all the reviews have been saying how bad the headset is... but I think it's a lot better... cuz you can dance around when you sing and you can hear yourself too! (through the earpiece) Well, hope this is helpful!
