I like this game series a lot. You can grab your completed game saves from the prior game or just start from the default beginning. This series goes along with the Anime Series, but is the perspective of a different group dealing with simular issues.
I haven't finished the last game yet, got stuck not being able to find a good place to level up.

I watched the series a while back, and fell in love with it. Upon beating the first game a while back, I bought the second game in the series. If you are a true fan of the series the DVD itself is worth the purchase. I have not beaten the second due to this game gets old. I would be surprised anyone who is not a die-hard fan get more pass the second game in the series. I may come back to this. So this is for real fans only, after the second of the series.
A GREAT game, and here is some help if you need it!

This is a great game and well worth your money. Though, seeing how you can only buy it used, you should get it from game stop. I got mine there for $17 and it works like new. Even the extra DVD worked perfectly. The reason why I gave this game a four is because the second big boss, Magus, is so hard I have be trying all summer to beat it.(seriously) I even leveled up to level 60! I have rare items equiped and every possible healing item and scroll. BlackRose and Elk are in my party and at my same level. It is anazing that I just beat it today. (Oct. 15) It took me 8 tries and 60+ hours of leveling up and other stuff. The trick to beating him is packing scrolls and healing items and make sure that BlackRose is level 56 atleast (she is the only one that is slightly spared when you are attacked by Magus. Another hint is to just last a while without dying and keep BlackRose constanly at full health. Also, if you try as long as I have you'll find that you can predict Magus attacks. Once he uses data drain on you it is only alittle longer until you beat him. Good Luck if your having trouble!
But otherwisw this is an awesome game it it is great to see all of my favorite .hack//SIGN characters again!
Hmm..

Basically I was just browsing to see what the other games would be like and I was really suprised to see 1 star comments here! Usually if you didnt like the first you dont get the second, and if you liked the first you like the second. Guess I was wrong...

If you found that you liked Infection, chances are still good you might despise Mutation.
The subsequent games frequently have a play time of under 10 hours each (at least to get all of the good items).
For the prices of PS2 games, you'd expect a bit more gametime such as the incredibly (and unfortunately) LONG Final Fantasy series. The whole Hack series can be shoved into one feature - four is spreading it too thin.
The gameplay is fun. Addictive even. Trading, leveling, email - all good.
The graphics are so-so. I kinda wish my character looked less like a mommy's boy - I envy the other characters.
The sound and music is great!
But just don't pay more than $20 for this game - It won't last the weekend.
If you want a good series PS2 Game, Xenosaga and its sequels will take that award.

This is the most boring role-playing game I've experienced. The first 5 hours have a great plot, and then *nothing*. Just hack'n'slash and repetitive dungeons for the next 20 hours. I quit the game before finishing.

.hack//Mutation is the sequal to .hack//infection. This game is so much fun you still have all of your member addresses whicth you had in the previsous game. And you start at Level 30 so you can go to stronger dungen levels and more infected areas. If you liked the first one you will like the seocond one more.

While .hack// is quite a phenomenon, a review of the enjoyment of this game has nothing to do with the anime series (although fans of the series can find little easter eggs in the game series).
The strengths of .hack//mutation are the same as the first in the series (.hack//infection): it has a great plot line, interesting new skill system, easy to use interface, and you can continue on your character into the next of the series. This is as expected, there were no changes to the game design. Despite this, I found this game to be more exciting and fun to play than the first in the series. The plot in mutation thickens and becomes more interesting and fulfilling.
Like the previous game, if I were to say this game has a weakness, it would be that it is quite a bit shorter than many comparable games. With completion of the story line (in this installment), the extras, and just having a little fun, I completed the game in about 40 hours.
Overall, the .hack//mutation is a must have if you wish to play the series. I don't think that the series would have been as much fun if I did not play all of the installments. Having finished the first three game, .hack//mutation is my favorite of the series so far.
