The Return of Adventure Games

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 1

The adventure genre has slowly died off with the onset of new systems and technology. Hotel Dusk is a return to form. The dialogue is well written and the steady plot keeps you playing. I also love the noir feel of the whole game. Support great games, buy this.

great game for ds

There are few games for the DS that keep my interest for long. This game is great and unique. I read other reviews saying the music was bad and i would have to agree for this game it is. the music itself isn't bad but not fitting for this game. i am sure there are many other reviews that tell about the game so i won't rewrite the same old stuff over. Its definitely worth the buy. a fun and challenging game at times. i don't think there will be a sequel to it because of the story line and how it ends but i really hope the company makes another game like it.

Hotel Dusk

Hotel Dusk is a really fun game which uses the stylus throughout the game. I enjoyed the whole mystery aspect of the story. The gameplay is a bit linear and the only way to lose is to piss off the people in the hotel and to get kicked out. It is very fun though so I recommend it to anyone who is interested in a mystery game

Check-In to Intriguing Mystery

Don't mind the garish review title, but this game is a wonderful addition to the DS collection. It's a beautifully illustrated visual novel (despite the simple sketchy black and white art style), and the dialog in the game can range from intriguing to hilarious. Excuse some of the groan-inducing euphemisms, though you have to remember this game takes place in the 1970s, so the dialog reflects just that.

You play as the protagonist, Kyle Hyde, an ex-detective and current salesman in 1979. Strange line of professions to follow one another, but of course, you'd have to play the game to figure it out! Controls are very simple, yet intricate, puzzles make you think out of the box at times, and the game has really good music, too. Has a wide array of characters too, some you'll hate, some you'll love, and is just a good thing to play when you want to do a little detective work. It gets a bit frustrating at times to try to figure out what on Earth you're supposed to do next, but as a detective, you have to rely on your noodle to do just that!

Absolutely Wonderful

I was looking forward to this game so much because of how much hype it has caused! When it released, it took me about 2 weeks to get it because it was always sold out in all the gaming stores. When I finally had a hold of it, I could not let it go..

There's something about this game that absolutely gets a hold of you at first. It's really not just any mystery game, but it comes with puzzles and different sorts of stages to go through. The one thing that got me hooked on to this was the whole concept, the story! It captures you at once, and you really want to find out what happens next. You are suddenly filled with thoughts of who you think did what, and who you think is the bad guy... but at the end of it all, the game proves you wrong!

In all honesty, this game is NOT easy... its actually very difficult to solve some of its puzzles, and to tell you the truth-- I had to look at some sites to figure out how to solve a certain case. (That's sort of why I gave it 4 stars of how much fun it was, because it gets frustrating at times..)

But, ALL IN ALL -- this game is absolutely wonderful.
I would not let go of this game at all until I was finished, and it took me about 2 weeks (continuous playing). When done, its all worth it and you really wish you could have played more! To me, it's truly worth the money and I hope they come out with another similar game.

Excellent, absorbing game, despite some rather obtuse puzzles

I heartily recommend this game to anyone who doesn't have a problem with lots of text. The storyline is absolutely brilliant, as many other reviewers have already pointed out, and the graphics and art are interesting and a pleasure to look at. Yes, some of the puzzles require some odd leaps in logic (spoiler: chalk to read the engraving on a pen? What the hell?), but others are wonderfully intuitive, or just downright clever.

Unfortunately, this game is now virtually impossible to find new, and seems to be out of print. Try picking up a copy while you still can!

An Excellent and Gripping Story

Don't judge my review on the fact that I put a 3 for "FUN". I think fun is not a judge of a game like this because its more of a super interactive suspense novel. There are a few "games" in this game and some intersting "puzzles" be the best part of this game lies in its characters. At the end of the game I was sad to see them go because CING (developer) really brought the characters to life with their dialog and their animated avatars. If reading is not your thing then this game may not be for you because most of the "game" is talking and figuring out clues to solve the next piece of the puzzle. If you like this game you should try Trace Memory by CING as well. This game is much better but if you crave this adventure style it falls along the same style.

Graphic Magic

If you enjoy a gritty detective story that you can sink yourself into, then Hotel Dusk: Room 215 will not let you down. With rich "sketched" graphics and a deep plot, HD plays more like an interactive graphic novel than anything else.

This game is a truly unique hand-held gaming experience that is well conceived and expertly executed. You don't have to be a genius to follow the story or understand the clues, but the events are challenging enough to be satisfying. Although the story does drag at times, it is well worth making your way through.

This game is a must-have for mystery fans or those who just want something new from their DS.

An Intriguing Game for Teens and Adults

Although I'm not very far into the game, I can say I'm already hooked. The plot is pretty good in the game and the level of interaction is superb. You literally get to do the detective work (asking questions, looking at items, completing puzzles, writing notes in your notebook...etc) and it's pretty cool. I wouldn't recommend this game for kids (sorry kids) because it's got quite a few choice words in it. I personally think they could have done without the language and not lost any quality of the game...

Sadly disappointing

As a very 'old' gamer of 47, I'm an old hand at point and click games. This game, being new, is incredibly disappointing. The conversations between characters go on forever for no particular reason and actual game play is few and far between. The graphics stink. I was hoping for much more based on previous reviews, but was very let down. Hopefully, future DS games will approach this game genre again, but do a better job of it.
