I didn't think it was all that great at first because of the poor english voice actings, but once you really get into the game, it's no problem at all! The small faults wouldn't affect th game-play too deeply, and after all, fortunately, the voice acting gets better as you advance in the game. The voices do match the characters well, although.
Anyways, like I said, don't let the voices get to you, after all, it's an honest to goodness, excellent game!!! It's one of the most memorial ones I've played, even though I've been through many rpgs. Once you've completed the game, it'll have you thinking, "Why does it have to end!" Lol.
The main plot is quite alright, although it wasn't one of the strong points of this game. The character developement and the events that take place within the whole main plot makes up for it big time though. Although to repeat again, the main plot isn't that bad anyways.
The little morals and dialogues in the game are so touching. One of the strong points of this game.I found myself trying to stop tears when Meredy questions Reid what good memories really are. This game also brings a good point to discrimination.
The characters are simply brilliant. You get to really understand them and they're great. The character developement is great. In fact, this was what motivated me to write this review even though I'm not that sort of person, really. You'd think a 15 year old would have better things to do. But I thought I really should to put in my compliments for this game. And yeah, the characters are simply lovable.
The battle system is excellent. This game really sticks out from the rest of the rpgs how getting into battles can be also fun too, not like the others how you'd wish you could run away from all the annoying, boring battles. The voices in the battles aren't that bad, in fact, with the full awesome animation of swordsman techniques and spell casting for each character, simply excellent. The awesome battle music gets you going too.
The graphics of this game was pretty satisfactory I guess. Even though it's 2-d, it's still beautiful. I don't get what people were complaining about. After all, animes are 2-d. the backrounds have a nice, crisp look to it in my opinion.
The music wasn't that bad either. Even though the tunes weren't THAT catchy, it still has depth and feeling in it. It also has mood in it. I should know, I love music. Like Reid's hometown music, it has a homey, gentle feel to it. Oh yeah, and the battle music. Awesome. But not to be biased, I've played other rpgs too, and yeah, theirs isn't bad either. Still, the battle music for this game is GOOD.
Oh yeah, and not to forget about the mini games. They are fun. The game developers sure know what fun is. I've found myself playing Meredy's dancing thing over and over, trying to continously beat my own record. Lol.
The anime intro in this game was so cool!! It looks great. You should see it.
Anyways, I think I'm done. Ps. A very memorial game. I recommend it. Even for rpg haters. The battles system is so much better!

This is the absoulute best RPG I have ever played. It has beautifful graphics and loveable characters. I love the characters because they are all so uniquie and quite funny at times, you begin feeling like you know them and how they would act in different situations. The battle style is one of the games best features. No time limit, you can place the characters in the order you want, and there are some really wicked combos you can pull off. Another great thing about the game is when you leave a town or even that world to go to another, when you revisit you usually find something new. The story is basically never ending and very realistic. The only thing about the game I didn't like was that the name of the game was changed from Tales of Eternia to Tales of Destiny II when it reached the states. If you love RPG then you definatley need to get this game. I also bought the stratagey guide to go with it and it helped a lot.
Very Good Game For anyone with a sense of Adventure

This game is Far by the Best Rpg made in 2d.The Linear Motion Battle System lets you Attack and Defend against enemies all you want so in short no more waiting for your turn to do a hit instead run up to your enemy and slice away to your satisfaction as much as you want! This game has Very good Summons and Lots of Spells to learn.Sadly most people say this game is 60+ hours but I have played this game all the way to the ending animation and it is 25-35 Hours long and it took me 34hrs. which includes level ups and side quests,When I said level up i mean I beat the game around level 76 and I took the time to get all the spells and summons! I even got Destiny Summon which calls out the heroes of the last game! This game is Chaos when you have a Multitap Though since this is 4-players.I recommend this to everyone and enjoy it! Personally I beat the first disc in 7 hours and the second disc in 16 Hours and 3rd disc took me around 5-6 hours and after that I fought Cless at the tournament and some dont know about Tales of Phantasia the actual first game and Cless is the Main Hero.
well good Luck to you all cause this game is Fairly Easy with a good level of course!
32-bit Transition of Great Series

The first of Tales series, Tales of Phantasia was such revolutionary RPG for SNES/SFC, it was pity not to make in US. When they introduced the second series, Tales of Destiny, with slightly tweaked Phantasia engine, there were no doubt that turned many gamers.
This time, they got it right (well, mostly). I still can't forgive some bonehead at Namco for changing name from Eternia to Destiny II, but otherwise, this is fine RPG.
Graphic has been improved to 32-bit level without losing its uniqueness. With bit of 16-bit simpleness, it distinguishes from others.
Battle system is where this game shines. Improving its trademark single plane, full time (no timebar) battle system, battle is more enjoyable than other RPGs. While others might dismis this as simple button masher, it is not. It takes great reflex of 2-D fighting game, and bit of strategy before the battle to maximize effectiveness. For instance, assigning character's battle position, their battle method, and attack point increases your survival.
Also, it doesn't hurt to point out that the first Tales was developed by Wolf Team (from Namco), which later defected to become tri-Ace (yes, the creator of Star Ocean series). It explains the similarities.
Weakest part of this game is Music Score. They do their job, but also very forgetable. I've played more than 50 RPGs including every Final Fantasy series, Star Oceans, Chronos, Lunar, Grandias, Persona 2, Manas, Sagas, Phantasy Stars, but this is the only time I couldn't remember any tune while playing.
If you can find one (I got lucky at local store), you should give it a try. However, if you are NOT RPG fan, I wouldn't recommend it.

Flaming streaks saturate the blue yonder, a mystical spacecraft crash lands, disintegrating foliage and vegetation alike. Aboard the spacecraft is a young enigma possessing the horrid awareness of a great forthcoming catastrophe. Sent as an emissary, Meredy must prevent her home planet, Celestia, from fatally colliding with the planet Inferia. Witnessing the monstrous projectile disembark close to their village, two dear friends, Reid and Furrah, futilely attempt to communicate with the visitor. Unable to comprehend the intensions of Meredy, nearby villagers banish the stranger. Concerned and up to the brim of gallantry, Reid and Furrah agree to voyage with the gate-crasher and what they least expect is a crusade to (as with all RPG's) eventually defend their world. Namco's third installment to the Tales of Destiny series is definitely a stalwart one, yet not as enticing as the closely nonexistent PlayStation can truthfully offer (i.e., Metal Gear, Final Fantasy VII). What seems as a slack-jawing quest only passes up as a sluggish and dreadfully predictable one.
Reintroducing the RPG's most inventive feature, Real-time clashing, Namco's latest can only go so far with one great area, the fighting engine, where the other departments hurtle in a downward spiral. Tweaking and ameliorating flaws found in the prequel, Namco has decided to discard the round 1 fighting found in the prequel, allowing the player to manage one character in real time fashion as the computer takes control of the other three. The battle encounters are generally fast-paced, even though at times the computer on your side typically performs useless moves like casting an ineffectual spell or two. The enjoyable customizable setups and minigames are unsuccessful to deeply facilitate the game's shabbiness. Mildly enhanced, the RPG is a hollow shell when compared to current RPG standards. Thrown in are the repetitive mundane phase; random battles, level gaining, overly exaggerated bosses, traveling from town to town, and recruiting seasoned allies along the way. Although knocking the crap outta the enemies in fighter-like style is fantastic, the game's lagging story is a hideous monstrosity.
Revolving in old-school 2D and characters textured in brightly rendered sprites, Tales of Destiny 2 appears as if it were one of the more earlier PlayStation games. The overview world is done in a scruffy, reduced landscape and lacks the punch to impress anyone who owns any next-gen system. Heroes in the battle engine are garishly tinted with a fine coat of colors. Monsters, usually in a goop of bizarre, cutesy outfits, get quite annoying with their harmless forms. On the contrast to the fluid colors, it really goes along with the simplicity of the game. The musical score is nothing to brag about, delivering dull, monotonous sounds. Plagued with many inescapable flaws, the game couldn't possibly lower its status but does with terrible voice acting. The spoken dialogue seems to be a bunch of scrambled, unrehearsed lines.
All-in-all Tales of Destiny 2 stirs up as habitual as your daily brew. Failing to furnish the life span of the PlayStation, I wouldn't recommend to shell out money for this unpleasing RPG. With Final Fantasy X looming closer and presently released in Japan, Namco should have been more on the highbrow and pulled this one off as a revolutionary title on the PlayStation 2. Mediocre games like these further indicate how the PlayStation should take its concluding vacation.

Tales of Destiny II, or in Japan's eyes as Tales of Eternia, follows the story of Reid Hershel and Farrah Oersted as they go on a quest to save the world from colliding, all thanks to a mysterious girl who crashes outside Rashean's, their home village.
Without going into major detail about the story of this game, which is better left untold until you play it, I'll give you some background instead.
Tales of Destiny II was changed when it was localized to English from Tales of Eternia.
Tales of Phantasia was released on Super Nintendo and Playstation on Japan, and in my opinion, was the best. Unfortunately, this never made a stateside release and I don't think ever will, although there are rumors of a GameBoy Advance port, and there is a new one coming for GameCube as well, which doesn't follow the story of the first one.
Tales of Destiny, which did come to the US was my second favorite, mainly due to the innovation involved with it. Sentient swords with elements were a cool idea. It wasn't as popular in the US as it was in Japan and had some choppy cuts and such.
Tales of Eternia (or Tales of Destiny II) came out in Japan released as ToE, because no Tales of... game ever has the same name because they are all different stories. It was released as Tales of Destiny II in the US, which was a fatal mistake from Namco, because ToD 1 and ToD 2 are not intertwined at all. And now that Namco has released a sequel to Tales of Destiny named Tales of Destiny II in Japan, there is going to be a really big problem if that is localized.
Tales of Destiny II was my least favorite of the three, I didn't really like the whole plot as much, and the characters sorta bored me. But the graphics, for being sprites, were upgraded rather nicely from the last game, and there is a lot to do in this game. The battle system is the absolute best thing about it, and even though the voices can get irritating, I think Namco knew as such because you can turn them off if necessary.
If you like the other two games, you'll love ToD2, and if you're bored and looking for an RPG, rent or buy Tales of Destiny or Tales of Destiny 2...believe me, you'll get hooked.
Great game for people who like action in their life!

This has been one of the best RPG games I've played. The game has a good mystery to start it off: who is this mysterious girl? The game has great characaters too. There are great ways to get across the map, like a ship or the Areialboard. In time if you go back to place you've been you might find something new!Ther are great techniques and spells.I especially like the summoning spells.I've already beaten the game once and I'm playing it again.I never get board of the game( thre's also something new the second time around). So have fun!

I must sat I was floored by the possibility of a seconded one and now I must say I am flabergasted there is actually going to release it. Just goes to show how the PS1 as so successful. The first one was extremely unique with its battle system and I'm glad they kept it. I am looking for this one. Also the character development in the first was excellent. I hope the will be intact.

Tales of Destiny 2 is actually the english version of Tales of Eternia. ToE gave me an impression that this game has a good story(although it was in japanese and I didn't understand a single bit), but I liked the graphics, the battle system, and the sound effects. This is really a good game.
