Street Fighter Alpha 3 - Circa 1999
GOOD:
- Good Balanced 2D fighter, considered a classic to many hardcore 2D fighting fans
- Lots of modes to unlock and lots of fighters to choose from
BAD:
- Loading times, very short but still there
- Graphics might be dated for some people
WILL IT FIT YOUR TASTE:
- Not over the top like Guilty Gear X/X2, Marvel Vs Capcom, or Capcom Vs SNK
- Old School type game play and not combo heavy
GAME ITS MOST ASSOCATED TOO:
- King of fighters 2000 and up
- Fatal Fury: Mark of Wolves
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
- Last game in the Street Fighter "Alpha" franchise (as of 1999)
- Has all fighters from Street Fighters Alpha 1 and 2 as well as a few from the old time Street Fighter's like Street Fighter II: The world Tour
- Street Fighter Alpha is called Street Fighter Zero in Japan
- Practicality same game on Sega Dreamcast

Lets face it. Polygons bite. The cartoon-like graphics on this game are the best I have ever seen on the Playstation! The gameplay is smooth, small load times, many different types of fighting. Nice!

Building on the success of the previous two Alpha games and the hype about the Street Fighter 3 Series, Capcom releases this absolutely FLAWLESS game. Every character from the first two Alpha games PLUS every character who was in SF2 is here. In addition, there are even MORE new characters! There is Cody (what is it with Capcom importing Final Fight characters into SF?), EVIL Ryu (has all of Ryu's moves PLUS the "Shungokusatsu" lvl. 3 super), Karin (the Ken to Sakura's Ryu), Juni (Cammy #2), Juli (Cammy #3), and R. Mika (a female wrestler. Any relation to Zangief, I wonder?). All in all, there are 25+ characters in this game.
The best new feature of SFA3 is the different -isms. There are three of them (X-ism, A-ism, and V-ism). The X-ism has only one super combo (a lá SSF2 Turbo) and that SC can be used once the gauge is full. (Note: The characters who were in SSF2T use those specific supers in this -ism.) The A-ism is just like the previous Alpha games: 3-level super meter, multiple supers. The V-ism is the most interesting of the three. SC's are disabled, but in their place the Custom Combo comes in. Now you can actually MOVE while performing a CC, which makes it so much better.
There are so many different modes of play, some of which are locked. But once you do unlock them, they are fun to play. My favorite mode is World Tour Mode. In World Tour, you go to different locations a lá Soul Blade and fight who is there. As you progress, you gain experience and you also gain "items" which you can have your character utilize to make them a stronger foe. What's the point of this, you ask? Well, you can enter that character into the game's "database" and the character will become playable with the attributes that you assign it.
Another MAJOR plus is that all of the background music is BRAND NEW. I mean, I liked the SF2 background stuff, but it got kind of unoriginal after hearing 5 different versions of it. The stages are very well designed. I do like how some of the stages still look somewhat like a previous incarnation of SF stages (look at Sagat's stage to realize what I mean).
Something very clever that Capcom did was to make half of the features (and some of the characters) hidden. This only adds to the interest level in the game because you want to see what else is hidden. This is a must-have for anyone who owns a PlayStation and I guarantee you will want to play this over and over again. Good job, Capcom!
One of the best Street Fighter Incarnations

This game is one of the best games for PS. Sagat is my favorite character because his combos are outrageous and he is scary.(Look at his face). Ken is also another good character, but the whole game takes hours to beat and doesn't get boring because there is a lot to do. For some, the fighting might get repetitive but try different characters and experiment you'll be SURPRISED what can be done.... A great game for a great price!
Better than a mouthful of chaw! *patooey*

well, I secretly hate this game because it killed the dreamcast, but when presented with this game, the joy is rekindled, and I can't help but to smile!
This game is the oddball in my collection(on my shelf, this comes between Star Ocean and Xenogears).
It's the little boy in the nursery that looks just like the mailman and not his "daddy"; even though he is obviously not related, daddy will love him all the same.

Anyone who doesn't like this game has to be sick in the head. I've been playing Street Fighter games since I was 8. This one is probably the best one of them all. The roster is huge (which I happen to like) and the ability to choose 3 different fighting styles puts a lot of depth in the gameplay. If only XMEN vs Street Fighter was made this well.

I've owned this game for over a year now and I have yet to get tired. Learning the characters and different abilities and finding the new characters is always a challenge. It's also quicker than your normal Street Fighter Game.
Best Game Ever!

I spent some time looking for fun 2 player games, and based on all the great reviews for Street Fighter Alpha 3, I decided to rent it. Man, was I disappointed. I thought this game wasn't just bad, it was terrible. I guess you have to be a fan of the Street Fighter genre to enjoy this... I never played any of the other Street Fighter games so I did not know what to expect. If you like Street Fighter games, then I guess all these other positive reviews are the ones to go by. If not, then I say skip this game. I would suggest renting it before owning it, but even that would be a waste of too much money. The graphics looked like something you would have seen on the old Nintendo system. Not only was there very little detail, but the movement is incredibly choppy. Stick to Twisted Metal 2 and Tekken 3 if you want a fun 2 player fighting game with good graphics and great gameplay.
