an entry into the n.o.l.f. universe, not the series

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 3 / 4

let me start out by stating that this is by no means another entry into the n.o.l.f. series, but a venture into the n.o.l.f. universe. monolith set out to make a fast-paced and action-packed (yet still quirky and humarous) first-person shooter and for that, they succeeded wonderfully.

my only two criticisms about 'contract j.a.c.k.' would be as follows:
-some of the ammo is pretty sparse, i barely recall picking up any ammunition for the cross-bow for the entire game.
-it could have used a few more levels.

beyond that, if you're a huge fan of the n.o.l.f. series and like the thought of mowing down group after group opponents while having a good dose of hearty laughs to compliment they mayhem, i recommend you purcase contract j.a.c.k.

however, if you're new to the series i'd recommend waiting until the price drops to $20. some of the best jokes will quite frankly, go right over your head (as they are direct tie-ins to the previous ventures) but even to a new-comer, it's still a solid title.

make no mistake, this is no n.o.l.f. 3 and it was never intended to be. i urge everyone to rate the game for it's own merits, not for the fact it isn't the 3rd in the 'cate archer series'.

Is This A Joke? But Still A Decent Joke...I Guess...

This is a bit of a weak first person shooter. But it is on the No One Lives Forever game engine so it is still pretty dang good. It is too short. There are only seven chapters. Not ten. The seven chapters are I guess broke up into ten sections. So you get the idea where this lackluster but fun game is going.

The No One Lives Forever games have good plots and lots of humor and great voice over conversations by the AI's! There is almost none in this. And the missions are all the same. You run around a corner somewhere, shoot some bad guys. Try and survive. Get ammo and health. Shoot some more bad guys, etc. That is it except for some flipping of switches and driving a snowmobile and scooter. It is just the same thing over and over. It gets repetitve, big time.

And you know almost NOTHING about the main character Jack! No characterization! And Cate Archer had tons of voice over. Jack has none. The game is very buggy in places and runs very slow at times. The final ending is decent. And there is a space level that is fun. It is still a good game. But it needed to be longer. And it needed more voice over, more story, and more characterization! Even the old Turok games had more characterization!!!

A mixed bag. It shoulda been SO much better from the NOLF team though! Ciao!

Contract Jack! A GOOD GAME!

This game has a lot of great action!
If you're looking to sit through endless chit chat, than
go for another game, but THIS GAME IS ALL ACTION!
PLEASE NOTE: the demo is nothing like the game,
in the demo you are right in the middle of a hard level, with no Idea of what's up! So please for your ownself, for your
'damn I wanna play Action games' side, get it!
and it's so good , that no walkthrough help is needed, and the cheats are great, you just press T , and the game pauses than enter kfa, and you got everything!

Not just another contract killer

For those of use who loved the first two installments of the series (NOLF 1 & 2) this game is not just more of the same. The focus shifted from stealth to action and the only way to get out of any situation is pure violence. Enemies are harder to kill than in NOFL, even if they look similar. They duck and weave in a very realistic manner and they even act together. And you never get just one: Packs of 5 or 6 are the norm. Humor is still there, but sometimes you cannot really pay attention to it over the sound of fire.

The only drawback: It's too short! Only 7 chapters and only one level boss in the single player. I have not played the multiplayer though. In conclusion, a great game, testosterone heavy and full of action. Where else than in the NOLF universe can you be the bad guy and enjoy it so much? I imagine that a showdown with Kate is part of Sierra's plans for the future. I look forward to it

Icing on the NOLF cake

Although mostly fun, this game feels like it never really went as far as it could have. If it had been developed more deeply, it could have really been fun. Maybe the energy should have been spent on developing the next NOLF game? If you're curious, by all means, go for it. It was a fun game, but left me feeling as if something (or someone - Cate Archer) was missing.

SO SHORT!!! POINTLESS!!!

UGH!!! this game made me so mad! it's so short I finished it in about 2 hours. I was so mad, that I emailed the company to complain! all you do in this game is point, click, shoot, point, click, shoot. NOTHING like NOLF 1 and 2. Also, the ending is COMPLETELY anti-climactic and stupid! the credits started rolling, and I figured it would be one of those funny things where the game's not really over, so I waited, and waited, and waited, and NOTHING!!!! Until this game's price comes down to $5, DON'T BUY IT!!!!!!!!

Poor follow up to the NOLF series

Poor storyline with a great gameplay/graphics.

Warning: For all NOLF/NOLF2 players. DO NOT BUY if you are looking for similar type play. (If you must buy, get it used!)

I beat this game in 5 days (in between living my life). This is $30 that I probably should have spent toward something like Max Payne 2. There is NO reference to Cate Archer except for 2 'wanted' posters in the entire game!!

You just go through shooting and shooting (set to hard/impossible for best challenge). No interludes between missions, no detailed information on the characters.

Play this game for for the sake of shooting, though a couple of missions closely resemble that of NOLF2 that were enjoyable.
The ending is the worst I have seen. A pure anticlimax.

Your only solace is the answer to the the following 2 questions:

1. How did Volkov end up in a wheel chair at the start of NOLF2?
2. How did Volkov survive the fall into the lava in a late mission of NOLF2?

Overall: not worth the money.... the game is lucky to get 3 stars on account of the graphics/gameplay.

Contract J.A.C.K.

Contract J.A.C.K - Just Another Contract Killer is a game based on the No one lives forever serries. It takes place after the first nolf and before the second. It is the dark side of nolf. You play Jack a contract killer working for the Harm organisation helping them defeat another evil organisation Danger Danger. CJ is a very good action game though not half as long as nolf2. It has about 15 levels, Very well desinged and fun to get through. The moon base levels are best and the italian levels are very eye candy. Built on the Jupiter engine Direct3D hardware T&L and 32bit color are a must to play the game. I have a GeForce Fx and i did not face any problems with the game. The graphics are fantastic, Water effects are the best, the ripples and reflections are very well done. Charecter movements are also superb. If you think the ending is bad, watch it again and this time do not skip the credits. Contract Jack is very good but short fps.

A decent time waster

Well, I'm gonna do the pro/con thing for this one.

The gist of it: It's a run and gun game. In the first 2 missions, it said I missed a few secrets. I found out later that "secrets" are hidden places, not documents, film, briefcases etc. He is an assassin, not a spy.

Pros: The attention to detail in the environments is awesome. I saw furniture and cliche'd paintings in some of these places that were timeless. It gives you a choice in visual setup at the beggining to go with the video card you might have which was a nice touch. Jack is a more serious character than Cate(NOLF) and is a "get things done" kind of assassin. His dialoge is somewhat humorous if you pay attention to what he says. he refers to a drunken Scottsman if you know who he's talkin about haha. The other characters dialoges are kinda funny too. PLUS it's a slightly lowered price so you shouldn't be spending $50 for a simple shooter.

On a whim I used the cheat code to get all the weapons and wasn't disapointed. No exploding kitties but some pretty cool weapons. There's absolutely no need for god codes. On the easy setting you take little damage and there's lots of ammo and armor around.

Cons: I haven't quite finished it yet but the missions so far are pretty simple and short. I keep finding levers or buttons that will highlight for you to activate but they're greyed over so you can't activate them. I finished the missions and never figured out what they were for. Like I said, it's a run and gun game so don't get your hopes up for a NOLF type goofiness. This is a darker game.

I still highly recommend it to anyone with a love for shooters.

not bad

This game isn't bad, but like others said, it's pretty short. The new levels, and weapons are cool though, and I got a used one, and it was worth the 5 bucks.
