Disappointed Old Timer

I'm definitely not the target audience at 34 years old. I did like the idea of real-time 'combat'/movement. I enjoyed Zelda Phantom Hourglass, but could not get into this one. I played about 6 hours of gameplay...enough to go through several parts of the story and fight my a tank battle. I realize that others enjoy this game, but unfortunately I could not get into it.

I enjoy the old Dragon Quest games along with the Final Fantasy games. If you like those, then you might be interested in Dragon Quest Monsters:Joker

I'm still looking for a good 'real-time combat' game other than Zelda. Something in the form of the old Secret of Mana games! (I've tried the newer ones :( )

Lots of fun and a good starter game for your DS

What a fun RPG this turned out to be. I recently purchased a Nintendo DS, opting for the basic kit, which comes with no game. Since I didn't want to drop full price on one of the more popular DS games, I grabbed this, as much for the price as because of the cover of the box. I didn't expect much of it, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Like I said earlier, this game is an RPG, so expect to grind a little. Leveling up your tank is the main purpose of grinding in this game, and while you'll probably have the required gold, you may not have the required items, which you'll need to collect. The only real quibble I have with this game is that items are not always plentiful, and farming them is nearly impossible because of the level design.

If you want a pick-up-and-play game, this probably isn't for you. Some of the quests may seem repetitive, and not everyone will care for that.

It took me about 17 hours to finish the main story of the game, rescuing all the inhabitants of Slimenia. I would say that I still have about 5 hours' worth of side quests to go, which represents a pretty decent value to me. Some full PC RPGs are shorter than this.

That said, this game packs a lot of variety; there are boss battles, tank battles, side quests, puzzle solving... There's nothing too difficult about it, but it presents enough of a challenge to keep your interest. While it's not as action-packed as a Zelda game, it definitely holds its own in the realm of RPGs.

I was pleasantly surprised!

At first glance, this game looked really stupid. But I was surprised! This is a really fun game! Funny plot, and you don't get bored playing it. I'm 13, and I definitely thought I'd be too old for this, and I was so wrong. Highly recommended!

Mediocre at best.

I would say that this game might be fun with the under 12 crowd. But Unfortunately, I am nearly 35 years past that age. Yes, I am a gamer, but I expect to be entertained. Dragon Quest VIII was great, so I figured Rocket Slime would be fun as well. Its cute, I guess. That is about it. Very repetitive. I think I'd rather play another Pokemon game instead (So you can imagine how repetitive it must be!).
Its just not my cup of tea...I bought this one at the same time I bought Phantom Hour Glass, so at least I got one good game!.
After about 3 hours of Rocket slime...I just hung it up...I'll give it to my youngest daughter..She'll finish it in a day or two..
I got this used...but still paid over $20.00 for it...my mistake.

Rocket Slime is the best!

Rocket Slime is the best game ever! It is so awesome! You HAVE to buy it! It's all about the Plob, who come and "slime-nap" everyone except you, because they mistake you for a worm. The Plob has lots of minions. One is called a platypunk. To defeat enimies like that, you have to attack them by "Elasto Blast"ing them. You can also
battle them in tank battles with your Schleiman Tank,(as shown on th cover.) You can change your tank ammo, crew, and HP once you get to a certain point in the game. You can even do tank battles with your freinds! So buy this game today, because I guarantee endless fun!

My favorite DS game to date !!!

Rocket Slime is just a joy to play. I'm a 30-something gamer and this is my favorite DS game so far. It's clever and cute and has a great, quirky little story. It's just a fun pick-up-and-play game, but be warned, it's very addictive! While the game does have some repetative elements, it has been carefully balanced so new abilities, new items and the story line keep you intrigued. The game has some very clever game mechanics too. For instance, everything you collect in the game can be used as ammo to fight your tank battles!! The items can also be combined to make even more powerful ammo. This is just a fantastic little game that every DS owner should put on their "must play" list. Experienced RPG gamers will delight in a well-made game while those new to RPG games will find a deep game in a very simple and straight forward format. FUN! FUN! FUN STUFF!

Superb RPG with Arcade Elements - suits RPG lovers (and non-lovers)

OK, so while the graphics are cartoony, the gameplay is FANTASTIC AND appeals to people young and old alike! The premise behind this game is just too fun to ignore. This is a combination of RPG and arcade, which means that both fans of RPGs and Arcade games will probably love this game.

While I normally don't go for RPGs, after reading the reviews in Amazon, I actually ordered it from Amazon.

No regrets so far. The game starts up with the basic you, a cute little blue slime with a special move - Ecto Blast. You go around collecting literally everything you can, including your enemies (it'll be VERY useful later!), save slimes, and of course, progress your mission in restoring Boingburg!

It would've been boring if it was just that. Not too far down the game suddenly there's the element of tank battles - this one's tons of fun! This is where every object you collect can be used as ammo for your tank, including yourself! So suddenly you've got this new element of battle in the game.

Further down the line, you can add crew members to help you load the cannons, infiltrate enemies, etc. As the mission progresses, you get to visit more places. Without spoiling your sense of adventure, the games slowly unveils and becomes more interesting. In that sense, there is not only a sense of progress but also an element of surprise as you get these different aspects of the game unveiling. So it's not boring, like typical RPGs. Of course, to top it up, it's a very cute game and hence rather relaxing (except during some intense tank battles) - wait till you are able to upgrade your tank's HP!!!

This is one game that appeals to fans AND non-fans of RPGs. Due to it's fun nature, it keeps you coming back for more. One of the best DS lite games I've played. Worth every penny because the game's pretty long too!

I'm actually pleasantly surprised at the number of reader reviews there are for this game, as supposed to a more publicized game like Contact. Or maybe this was publicized, I dunno. I picked up Rocket Slime several weeks after it was released, and only because I found a used copy of it at EB Games for 24.99, and the EB card offers 10% discount (plus there was a promotional additinal 15% off)

And boy was it a good pickup. It was sitting in my (at the time) small pile of DS games. On the 5 hour flight to the East Coast, I decided to pop it into my DS and ended up playing it even while I was deplaning and waiting for my baggage at the baggage claim.

There's two main venues of action, the first being the main RPG in which you go around fighting as a blue slime in an active fighting RPG. The second are these hilariously fun tank battles, which aren't too difficult, but fun nonetheless.

My only complaint with this game was that it was ridiculously easy. I don't think I died at any point in the game, neither in the tank battle or the dungeon progression. Still, it's a small taint on a fun, time consuming RPG that's hard to put down.

Rocket Slime is one of the more underrated DS titles available in my opinion, mainly because it was overshadowed by New! Super Mario Bros. when it was released. It's a very pleasant pickup, and a very enjoyable time on your DS, and I highly recommend it.

$29.99 retail, hasn't gone very far from that, but easy to find used for cheaper. The retail is worth the game.

Incredibly Charming

This may seem strange to you, but I can summarize this review in one sentence: If you like the cover art, you'll like the game.

Here's the thing - it's charming. It's full of puns, both terrible and great, often both at the same time. The gameplay is offbeat, the characters are funny, and the game was clearly made by people who loved making it. It has a certain ... verve that almost no other game has, and if there's something about that cover art that catches you - the bright colors, the irrepressible smile on the face of the blue blob leaping out at you - then you'll probably find things in the game that you'll like in a similar fashion.

If, on other other hand, you look at the cover art and think, "Man, that looks stupid," you probably won't like the game all that much. Which is sort of a pity, because it's really quite excellent. For me, it's one of the games that gets the most time in my DS, and despite not really using the touchscreen aspect of the system (save for "customizing" some artwork), it's a perfect game to pass a little time. Charming through and through.

Way to repetitive

I'm writing this review simply because I was shocked to see this game had a 5 star review. This game is fun... at first. However, you begin to realize that the game has you doing the same thing over and over again. body slam enemies and items and throw them onto a train for stocking, or into a cannon for ammo. I played this game for about 5 days. The first day I really enjoyed It, and found it both engaging and different. By the second day I was wondering when it was going to start to get more challenging. and by the fifth day I had beaten it and was so sick of the repetitive game play that I had no interest in the tank master mode or any other replay value and returned it to the store. I think children under the age of 10 will get alot out of this game, and it might even be a good introduction to the RPG genre. Anyone looking for a game with substance will be thoroughly dissapointed.
