Metal Gear Solid, (the first one) is a really really good game. If you enjoy action/sniper games, its definatley for you. However, VR Missons is an attempted continuation of the story. The game isn't really a game though. VR Missions is nothing but a training game for the same price as the real game. I wouldn't waste any more money on this if my life depended on it. Be my guest and try it out if you want, but I would definatley rent it before you order it.

Upon completion of Metal Gear Solid last Christmas '98, I was looking forward to Komani's next offering in the genre, VR Missions. I rushed out and bought it. I wish I had read the valuable reviews here first, I was very disappointed. This game, if you can call it that, is just taking advantage of the success of its predocessor, Metal Gear Solid. I did not have fun with it and it was not challenging. The operation of weapons are limited and do not allow for traditional aiming as in Metal Gear, rather a laser scope dresses it up a bit, but does not give you freedom to be efficient in tactics or battle. I would rather see Konami do something original rather than produce reconstituted practice missions.
This game was a let down

Alright, I will admit it, I am a MGS junkie. I thought that this game was going to be the best. So I asked for it for Christmas. Well, I got it, played it, and sold it. It was a complete waste of time and my life. There is no story line and no graphics to speak of. Most of the missions are in the VR territory and there is no replay value you to it. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!
Just awful!

It kills me to say this, since it is a Metal Gear game, but this is just awful. I purchased this game and beat almost all the missions in 2 days. The only fun thing about playing through this game is playing as the ninja, which you can only play as him in 1 different level. There really is no fun because some of the puzzles are really frustrating. If you are looking for a nother Metal Gear experience, just pick up (or replay) your Metal Gear Solid and try to beat it on extreme.

Bad, bad, bad. This is one of the worst games I have ever played! Although the ninga mode is fun you only get 3 levels! All of the levels are really short and not too challenging. You would expect better from the Konami crew, which revelutionized PSX gaming forever. This is just plainly a bad game. I suggest if Konami wants the Metal Gear Solid saga to continue they make a Metal Gear Solid2 or something. METAL GEAR SOLID VR MISSIONS IS A TERRIBLE GAME!
The real MGS is better

I'm a MGS fan and really like MGS. But this game is just a VR training for extra fun. It was kind of fun at first, but then I got bored of it b/c it's... just some training simulation missions all in a green hologram place, not a real mission. But for those who want to play ninja and do the special bonuses then this game gots it.
I think most MGS fans will like this, but maybe a few won't. If you're extremely or really into MGS games, then this will be a good addition. If you don't like it that much, it's not a priority to purchase. It may be smarter to rent the game first rather than buy it.
Not worth the buy, rent it twice

This game has all of the great weapons and game control of its predecessor (Metal Gear Solid), but it's only VR mission after VR mission. Quick, shoot at targets, now soldiers, and back again. The few variations they include are short lived and not worth spending full price. My recommendation is rent it twice from your five day rental video store and be happy you beat it in 10 days.
If you want more stealth then this is a must!

A good game for any Metal Gear fan which brings you over 300 missions to accomplish. But there are some points to consider;don't expect a wide variety of 3D environments because it is just always the same VR world on each mission.Plus you won't be fighting any big bosses or watching cinematic video sequences. Two stars have been taken away from its score because of this.It is just straight forward level-based game playing with many missions to fight through including Mystery Mode, several levels using different weapons but it can sometimes be rather repetitive.I recommend you try this game before you think of buying it.But I think you will be very pleased to know that you can finally play as Ninja.

this game is fun, some of the missions are pretty enjoyable. The only reason why i wouldn't buy it is because it costs as much as metal gear solid. and also the main reason why i rented this game was because of the ninja missions. But there were only three.
Hmm. Interesting

The only thing that will put you down is that you have to re-play all the VR training levels from Metal Gear Solid. After that, it's all level ground. So many different levels and types of training. MGS:VRM's replay value is very poor, because you've done all of this. What get's even worse is that (since it is training) if ANYONE OR ANYTHING spots you, you have to do that level ALL OVER AGAIN. That's get's annoying because in MGS you just have to outrun or kill guards if you're spotted. I agree that this should have been a pre-release. But it didn't. So put your army boots on and blast off into VR MGS training.
