LET'S GO BACK TO 1980-85!!

Remember when the arcade lights were turned off where only the games lit up the room? These were the games everybody slammed quarters or tokens in back then. To all you "so-called" video game experts, I'd like to see any of you get to even stage four or five of "Super Cobra" or "Scramble". Want simple but fun games? This is the one for you. It has all the hits, Gyruss(the actual real PCB Gyruss!)all the original PCB's so you can really get into the games. Take your pick of any or all ten. You won't be disappointed.

This is one of the best retro game collections out there. I remember playing Pooyan, Time Pilot, and Gyruss on my Commodore 64 years ago. They're still a blast to play. Kudos to Konami for adding Dual Shock support of the games. This adds to their intensity. It would have been nice if Konami included more background information on the games (designer interviews, etc.) but, all in all, they did a great job. The translations are arcade perfect. You'll be coming back to play time and time again. Recommended.

A pretty good collection of retro games

Although this is not the best anthology of old video games that I have played,it's still very good. With a name like "classics" though,I was expecting to actually remember more of these games.
The only ones familiar to me were Gyruss(of course),Circus Charlie (vaugely remember that from an arcade in a movie theater),and Time Pilot(more about that later). Well,on the whole, the collection was packed together nicely and the menu selection was easy and quick to use.The intro movie was sweet and the graphics/colors were also nice. Now to review each of the games:

Shao-Lin's Road:
Unlike the amazon reviewer,I thought this game was really fun.A free for all beat-em up with random power ups popping up here and there(fried noodles for health!)While it can get chaotic at times, you have a shield or life meter if you will. It's not like you get hit once and then you die;you can take three hits, and the fourth is fatal. There are diffrent looking enemies(bald monks, female dancers, street punks) and yes there are even bosses... sometimes two at a time!If you loved the Double Dragon games, odds are you'll like this. This was one of the better games.

Circus Charlie:
I remember this one as a kid and I wanted to play it,but couldn't get a quarter from the parents! This game is so original and yes, cute that you can't help but like it.From tight rope walking to trampoline jumping, pony riding and fire hoop leaping this game is pretty tough. But it always makes you want to try again to complete all levels.Again this was one of the more fun games.Carnival music was also cute.

Time Pilot:
My personal favorite!I didn't even realize it at the time I bought this, but I had played this game before on the old "caleco" system! This game is really great! You start out in 1910 and you have to shoot so many enemy baron type planes.(You can look at the gauge to see how many you have left to get)After you destroy the needed amount a boss will appear that you have to destroy.Actually it's just a big ship that blows up after a few hits.On the 1910 level it's a blimp. After you destroy the boss ship you warp to the next time era (this looks really cool by the way)and the further along you advance through time the more modern the planes look (from barons to bombers to helicopters to jets). This game itself is worth the total price in my opinion.Warning:your hands will get really, really tired!

Gyruss:
Anyone who had an 8 bit nintendo will remember this one.
You fly your space ship in a circular motion while enemy ships appear in the center.Dart around and blast them to stratosphere!
Really good, and just like the original.

Yie Ar Kung-Fu:
This was pure 8-bit goodness!See the great great grandfather of Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat!Oriental type music was a fun touch, and fighting different opponents one-on-one
style is a blast.I have STILL not beaten every opponent in this game. This is one title that I play more than the others,by the way you might need to adjust the difficulty settings on this one!

Pooyan:
A cute game based on the three pigs and the big bad wolf... well at least inspired by it.Actually you shoot arrows at the balloon riding wolves so they won't reach, pignap, and ultimatly eat your swine kinsman.Funny, nice, not the best, but still good.

Roc N Rope:
Sorry,I only played this a couple times and didn't like it.I guess this one was just filler.

Road Fighter:
A racing type game that's ok fun.The graphics are hard to look at even for 8-bit.But I still like trying to get to the finish line before my gas runs out.Try and collect more gas if you are running low,but be careful not to crash into other cars!Personaly
I think SpyHunter is a better game of this kind.Still not terrible...you might want to put on some music while you play this game though... no in game music just the RRRRR of your engine.

Scramble "and" Super Cobra:
I'm putting these two games together, because they are pretty much the same.Side scroller ship flying game;one has a chopper while the other is a space ship.Blow up stuff, avoid being hit and collect more fuel so you don't run out and crash. This was just ok.I really wish we would have just had one of these two and then some other game.Come on Konami!

In the end there are enough fun games, and even ok ones to justify buying Konami Arcade Classics.I also recommend buying Midway Arcades Greates Hits Collection 2.Have fun with some nostalgic gaming!

some information for you
