Very mediocre at best. As always, konami fanboys will flock to it. So if you like playing the same game all the time. this might be for you. If you've played one of the following:sotn, cotm, hod, aos. You've played them all. Stay away from hyped garbage like this.
Great Fun But Feels Liike A Re-run

I truely enjoyed playing this game. Innovative use of the stylus without making it cheesy. Using the stylus to create seals to lock the bosses souls away. Great graphics, great sound track, and a lot of replay value.
The only real negative is the similarity with AOS. At times it felt like I was playing a revamped version of AOS.

these games are all the same. It's like konami releases the same game over and over again and the same idiots buy the game over and over again.

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow was the first 2D version of castlevania, that I had played in a long time. Well to be onest, the first one since Castlevania II: Belmonts Quest, came out on the NES back in the 80's. I never got to play Super Castlevania, or the amazing PSX versions(which I should have, after playing this game, and buying the 2 previous GBA games).
This was an amazing change ot the games for me. in the original, it was really hard to beat, and made you frustrated. II fixed it a little, and made you search for Dracula's body, and then destroy it, but was frustrating, as you had no real direction and most of the weapons tended to suck. This however, was an amazing game. It eases you into the game, you have a lot of HP at your disposal, and can regain them(take that 1980's games) quite often, from potions, or from a save point, or souls.
The souls are a great thing, and am loving it in the previous game as well. They range from you not taking as much damage, to growing a tail, to shooting lightning or bombs, and letting you throw a doll, and switch places with it. I enjoyed this game, and was determined to finish it. I don't currently have 100%, but on my first time through I got 98% which is nice, because I have played games through, and you finish with 48% and you completed the entire game.
The touch screen is not used often in the game, but when it is used it is used well. You only need it to destroy a few blocks that are in the way, and to input magic seals whihc you need to defeat the bosses and get through certain doors. It plays great, although you can cheat and not have to hit the points perfect, as long as your are quick(which is a good thing, as most people are not perfectionists, or if they are, are really slow). The game is difficult, but not overbearing like many of the series have been in the past.
I loved this game, and will play it for a long time, even though I have beaten it before. I will try Julius mode, which is the more traditional, difficult castlevania game using a Belmont(finally) with a whip, no souls, no potions, it will be tough, but I will enjoy it greatly. If you own a DS, you need to own this game.
Nicely Done Konami!!!

Castlevania DS is the singlemost innovative Castlevania title that Konami has yet to release. The use of the stylus for special abilities & magic demon seals is comprehensive and fun. It keeps you on the edge of your seat when you defeat a near impossible Boss fight and must end it by magically sealing the Demon Boss, "Where's that Damn Stylus..." Excellent game even without the stylus aspect. Unique abilities numerous variations of weapons as well as several gameplay modes keep the replay value VERY high. For Veterans & Newbies alike. Symphony of the Night and Dawn of Sorrow are NECK & NECK for the #1 Castlevania title to date.

Another Castlevania game means more excitement. Going around whipping everything in sight never gets boring because the gameplay of Castlevania has been an interesting one for many, many years.
I love the graphics. They are truly something magnificent. The special effects from all the enemies is really a nice, welcoming touch. Just the overall atmosphere of the game is dark and spooky, the way a Castlevania game should be.
This game follows the formula that was featured in Symphony of the Night, which means if you like the Metroid style of gaming, you will love this game as well.
