The 98 version of this popular game is a real dissapointment. After the excellent previous version (F1 97-Championship Edition) I awaited this game with great anticipation.
The visuals of the different tracks was awful. The driveability of the cars was terrible. The new pitstop action was interesting, but unrealistic. The car and race setup screens were difficult to read.
I spent good money on this game and only played it twice....sincerely considered writing to Sony Playstation asking for a refund. This one was put in the trash long ago.
I'm sticking with the 97 version which is far superior to the 98 game.
also disappointed...

I agree with the other reviewer, this one is a big step backwards from the '97 version. There is horrible understeer that isn't on the previous version, and it can't even be fixed if you're using a standard controller. It's just barely tolerable if you use a steering wheel and make extreme adjustments. Like the other reviewer, I've gone back to the '97 version. The graphics are a bit better on the '98, but it's impossible to drive this version using a standard controller without the nose of the car going off into the gravel on every corner. What were these guys thinking?
How can you complete a whole season with this game.

Im starting to collect all the f1 games i missed out in the 90's and I brought F1 98. when I start the game, the main menu has a bad frame rate. Driving with the cars was horrible.in order for the car to turn at any corner neatly you have to brake while turning.F1 98 really went backward when bizzare creations left.visual sciences cant make any games good.they really make the graphics good though. If you want to find a good F1 games in the past,Dont get this one unless you want to collect the F1 games.F1 97 is a better game to play.

I LOVE THE GAME,THE CARS ARE FAST , THE SOUNDS ARE BACK TO A SHRIEK LIKE THE 95 GAME . IF ONLY THE CAR WOULD TURN. I FIND THAT IF I BRAKE WHILE I TURN THE CAR WILL TURN BUT THATS WITH THE GAS OFF, AND YOU HAVE TO USE THE BRAKE TO TURN GOING DOWN THE STRAIGHTS WHEN YOU NEED TO TURN SHARPLY, ITS A HASSLE. DARN IT'S TO BAD.ILOVE THE 97 GAME BUT MISS THE REPLAY,
THE 95 GAME IS GREAT ALSO. GOOD LUCK FOLKS.
Better than you think

I found this version to be a vast improvement on the previous versions. Last year's Championship Edition was very good, and I had no problem with taking corners at very high speed. This year's '98 version does have a considerable amount of understeer, but with reduced wings and grooved tires, so do the real cars. Formula 1 '98 very accurately reflects the problems of racing under F1's new rules, and I think it's the best Grand Prix sim I've played to date.
