Very intriguing first person tactical shooter.I played also Medal of honor,Brothers in arms both (hill 30 and EIB),Call of Duty 2,Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon 3 and other military first person tactical shooter games.Even though they all have their own excellent qualities. I have to say for me this game is the most fun. This is a squad base game. You are the leader of 3 men.You can issue them direct orders where to go,how to a react to certain agressive situations ,suppress the enemy, cover area, frag, take down a room and many more commands either individually or group. The squad members are as intelligent as you make them.If you issue them poor commands, they will die and the next one will be you. But on the other hand if you play the game with an intelligent commander's point of view:The orders that you give to your squad should be the best tactical move to eliminate the enemy. This is a fun game to play.It is similar to brothers in arms, because you issue orders to your squad members. The graphics are not the best I have seen like ghost recon 3 ,but they are nice.In the beginning it may seem difficult to defeat the enemy in some missions, but after you get use to the game,it becomes challenging in an entertaining way. This game takes place in a modern day warfare setting, fighting insurgents, guerillas, terrorists and militia groups. These groups are usually Iranians ,Lebanese,Syrians and other Middle East radicals. As a added feature, in certain times during the game you can call in tanks, apache helicoppers ,snippers ect. to bombard a difficult stronghold situation. The next game in the highly successful series will be Close Combat: Red Phoenix,If Destineer the makers of Close combat First to fight just improves the graphics a little more and add a little something extra to their new soon to be released game Red Phonix.I can almost bet that it will recieve extremely high ratings at gamespot and other game reviewing websites when it comes out.

Its good but we (Infantry Marines) Do not use this as a training tool I wish! But it is a good game, but I say SOCOM III is a little better.

Summary
First to fight is a decent first person squad based shooter. This makes the game better than most in this genre, but only because most others are so bad.
First to fight is a run-of-the-mill game. Which means to me that most of the time the game plays without annoying to much. The AI isn't too dumb and I like the fact that I could direct the individual members to take up position and face a certain direction. I couldn't order them to throw grenades but they added to my strenght most of the time. Which says a lot, because in most of these games I wished I could do without my team.
The problem I got with first to fight is that is has nothing to make it shine or stand out. I found it almost a treadmill experience. The plot had something to do with killing a bunch of bad guys who disturbed the peace in Beirut, but I quickly forgot who, what, where and why. It could be any middle eastern town for all I care and I found it irrelevant to the task at hand. The opposition consisisted of a bunch of stereotyped middle eastern guys with no personality and who's only purpose was to die in large numbers. I didn't have to do much to find them, as they lined up in front and their chiefs were there at the end of each level. The latter I could shoot or capture, but nobody seems to care one way or the other and shooting them was less of a hassle.
This dullness of the game is reflected in the team. If just one of these marines swore or hummed a tune or guzzled a beer or had a smoke it would given the game something extra to the game. Just something to make me slightly believe that they are alive and not just some computer generated dummies.
Variance is also avoided in equipping your team. I, as lance-corporal, get the m4 and am in command of the same team with the same equipment throughout the game facing the enemies equipped with the same hardware. The only change in weapons where those I picked up from the fallen enemy. But even those are limited in choice, about eight out of ten where ak-74.
The same might be said about the environments. Soon I found out that most of the time there was only one road to travel and virtual no alternative ways of approaching an objective. I got the feeling that I was travelling a long tunnel with no option but to go forward along a predetermined route.
There is one interesting feature in this game which allows you to call in support from a sniper, a mortarteam or a helicopter. But it is very fabricated as I could only call the support at certain moments and places which the designers planned for me. In fact for some reason I got more support to call upon then I was allowed to assign.
First to fight has also a multipayer option. Again this testifies to the dullness of the game. On the up side, I was now allowed a wider selection of weapons, but on the down side, there were only two modes to choose from. One being co-op the other been the team death match variant. The co-op allows you to redo the game but then with real players in your team instead of ai controlled marines. Alas the entire game is still the same with the same ai opponents at the same location each and every time. So this quickly bores, unless you really get a kick out of doing the same thing over and over again.
After playing through the game and doing some multi-playing I deinstalled the game. It offers little challenge to replay it.
