I was first wondering about this when I saw a commercial for this. But, after going to our mall, we found out that it was just a bundled pack of all three games. I decided not to get it. Take my advice; if you want to get started in Roller Coaster Tycoon, then by all means get it. But if you already own the both expansion packs(which I do), DON"T GET IT!
do NOT get!!

Get the Roller Caster Tycoon 2 because even this might sound good but I have got all three games include in this and they not by far as good campared to Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 combined.
Don't spend your money on this were you can get the fully updated version for more options to work with!...
It's your chose either the cheap past version or the moderate updated version!?
Great fun, but unstable on XP...

This is a great little title for anyone after an involving and detailed Sim game. As the title suggests, the object here is to design, develop and construct roller-coasters, and whole theme parks in which to place them. You can design your own custom-coasters with an easy to use point-and-click interface, or else pick from the predesigned models.
Indeed, this game can be as fluid or involving as you see fit; newbies will be able to dive right in and create a great instant-park, whilst the long term gamer can while away many an hour designing from scratch and testing their own custom rides (right down to the paint job). In addition , you can flesh out your park with food and drink stalls, balloon shops, decorative fountains and landscaping etc...there's tons to do, and its a very pleasant surprise when the AI customers start bestowing bonus awards on your carefully crafted park.
The only niggles I have stem from the age of the game. Its not fully 3D, so you can't freely rotate your park (only 4 way isometric views), which means things can get a bit difficult to see at times, especially when trying to build underground rides or landscaping. I've also had problems installing anything but the basic game on my XP system - the expansions claim my system is incompatible. Maybe there are some new drivers to take care of this, but just be warned.
On the plus side the game runs smooth as silk on my modern machine, even with the resolution cranked way up, and 1000+ guests in the park. This is a lovingly designed game thats suitable for all the family, and great for kids to learn about finiancing and economics in a fun way. Recommended!
Highly reccomended, but...

That is a big but there. The original game was good, then 2 expansion packs made it great. But, I have been playing long enough to realize some of the limitations such as: in most scenerios there isn't 10 square feet of flat land to build on ANYWHERE, and when you build a large paved area or build a park with many loops and intersections in the paths the little people get confused, then angry, and because they are so stupid they can't find the exit, and you are bombarded with messages like "Guest XXXX is lost and cannot find the park exit". Ah, but there is a beacon of hope on the horizon: "Roller Coaster Tycoon 2" It seems like most of the problems in the original game will be solved in RCT2, plus there will be many improvements like more rides, more realistic rides, more scenery, and even a scenario editor. My advice is to wait for RCT2 to come out in what should be sometime around October this year. Trust me, you will be much happier waiting for a far superior product than you will be if you invest in software that will be obsolete in a few months.
GREAT GAME!

This is a great game especially if you get bored easily (like me). I did have to give it four stars though, but only because after you've played it for 3 months in a row, it gets kinda boring. The only complaints that I've seen in these reviews have been about how it's annoying that the people get stuck. WELL, this is definately NOT a legitamite complaint because it's PART OF THE GAME! It's your job to create an easy-to-navigate system of walkways so that your guests can get through the park and to what they want to get to without a hassle. (by the way i'm 15 in case you were wondering) I have the gold edition and the expansion packs are great. THIS IS A GREAT GIFT
well that's it, happy gaming everyone

Roller coaster tycoon gold is great. but be warned if you already have all three editions rtc gold is the exact same thing. the only complaint i have is that building a custom roller coaster is not as easy as advertised. Over all rtc gold is a spectacular game for people who liked the first installment.
More great fun

Roller Coaster Tycoon is such addictive fun. Here is more of the same great fun. It is more complicated and more difficult because there are no entry fees. Oh yeah, play, and play, and play.
