Sam only gets better

I have very few complaints in the Splinter Cell series, if any. Sam himself is a very complex, mysterious, solitary character and a lot of his life experiences have yet to be explored, but we do learn a lot about him and his family--especially in Splinter Cell: Double Agent. (But I won't spoil it) I know many X-box owners say PS2 games don't hold a candle to their system, as a non-X-box user, they're probably right, but I know you certainly can't discount PS2 in its quality. Many a PS2 games have been brilliant in environment, scale, sound, visuals and game play and this is no exception.
The game looks wonderful, I think it looks just as good as Chaos Theory if just a little better. Prison is where you first notice the extreme pristine of the game visuals--water sprinklers look and sound like real water, they drop on the puddles on the floor, smoke and flames actually hinder your viewing, things crinkle and break, sound is excellent.
I know that the trailers played up the Prison aspect as if he was there more than half the game, but that isn't true. A major part of the game, it's only several levels (amazing though they are) but do not get excited about Sam being in OZ for the whole game. *g*
I do miss old characters (Wilkes, Grim) but love to see regulars back.
The game does not stray from its original format, if you've played one SC you've played them all. I know that this game isn't for all gamers, I wouldn't recommend this to someone with little patience, no interest in espionage or stealth, or slow story build up. You can play it as run-and-gun, but I think sneaking is what the game is meant to be and really works best to get the most out of it. The game is really built so you can sneak and not shoot everyone in site.
That said, the AI here is a lot better--in some spots. I noticed that if I was spotted by a guard or some type of security (especially in prison) he did not seem to let up, he used a flashlight (way cool) to seek out my spot and actually came all the up to where I was hiding before I snuck off. They really did try and find you. This is played on Normal mind you. Overall though, SC enemies are not that forthcoming. Usually once they have spotted you they will be on "guard" and just walk back and forth or stand in place making it harder for you to sneak past, annoying and stupid.
Normally they have a 'walk' or 'guard' pattern that you can easily memorize and ease around, most enemies can be easily evaded or killed. However, realistically they will respond to sound and movement, get scared, search shadows if you get too noisy and team up (much like the brilliance in "Chaos Theory" (can you tell I loved CT yet? ;)
I don't think the game is bad, has mini games to keep you a little more interested. The game is pretty linear and can somewhat be easily followed. If you've been a SC fan thus far, you will continue to benefit from this next installment. I do not believe it has gotten worse.
On the note of saving, while saving any time is a complete bonus, I don't like having to 'rewrite' over my last saved game as I also had to in CT. Why can't I have save cells so if I did want to start over somewhere I can, instead of completly saving over all my progress with my new progress? I don't like that and took away a star.
Overall, SCDA tried (and did succeed) to breath new life in the series with new environments and a new disconnected and reckless Sam. If anything new (or continued) I'd like to see are:
--> Even more realistic AI among enemies
--> More relationship between Sam and Lambert
--> Grimsdottir's return
--> More new environments
Well done Ubisoft.
Great game but too short and over hyped.

Let me start by saying this: SCDA is a great game. Its got all the pulse pounding stealth action you'd expect from a Splinter Cell game and the graphics are spectacular. But the game was way to short. The other three SC's It took me about a week each to beat (pretty short there anyway) but I beat DA in four days, three really (I only played for a half hour or so one of the days.) Another thing is the story line felt extreamly choppy. This is likely due to the fact that at many times in the game you make an important descision for Sam that effects the cinema that comes after the level. Also, gone are CNN style cinemas that have become a staple of the Splinter Cell series. Instead the story is told through a phone conversation between Sam and NSA Assistant Director Williams which was not as well done as it could have been. One final flaw is Sam's relationship with Enrica. That relationship plays in heavily at the end of the game but they spend little time developing it. I know I spent most of the time talking about the negitive aspects of the game, but make no mistake. Splinter Cell Double Agent is well worth buying since it is highly replayable since you can go through and make different descisions that will effect the game.
needs more co-op missions

The only problem I have with these type of games is shelling out $40-$50 for a few hours of fun. What I mean is, there are not enough missions in the co-op version to make it worth the price of admission. There are only 4 missions which take about 1-2 hours each, and after you've finished them the game is pretty much over--it's not like you can play them again and pretend you don't know what you've already learned. Aside from that, I found the four missions to be alot of fun and very challenging at times...I played them with my 16-yr old son and a few times we had to consult a walk-through to advance further. I wish there was a game out there that was different each time you played it--or that the game manufacturers made a few more games that featured co-op versions...there are really only a few choices on the market now, and it seems we've played them all. As for Splinter Cell:Double Agent, I would definitely recommend it--just be aware that the co-op version isn't very long.

I love first-person shooters, espicaly on the PS2. Ive played all the medal of honor series, and all of the Call of duty series, also BLACK, and other first person shooters. Ive also played all of the Splinter Cell series, splinter cell Double Agent is good but not great, I actualy like the one before it better, it offers nothing spectacular but again, it does offer more spliter cell type fun, it's certanily a good game if you like first person shooters, but it's not a great game, I am enjoying Call Of Duty 3 much more.
Sam Fisher on the PS2 for the last time

The much anticipated and hyped (overhyped) new installment in the long running and innovative stealth series offers the same kind of action and engaging gameplay that Splinter Cell fans have come to expect. Spinter Cell: Double Agent finds Sam Fisher (once again superbly voiced by Michael Ironside) in a different set of surroundings. He's under deep, very deep, cover this time around, as the Spinter Cell storyline takes a darker, grittier turn. Sam is infiltrating a terrorist organization in these multi-layered missions, which you'll notice are pretty different from the ones found on the superior XBox 360 version. That aside, Double Agent still offers the same kind of tried but true action/stealth gameplay that you all know and love. The graphics are decent enough on the PS2, but what really helps sell this game are the excellent two player co-op missions and the multiplayer modes, which are tons of fun. The online functions aren't packed with lag time either, which is a nice change of pace for a PS2 game. The missions are lengthy enough to boot, which rounds out a sweet package. The only real drawbacks for Double Agent is that this is basically the same Splinter Cell game that you've played before, and not much has changed since Chaos Theory and Pandora Tomorrow. That aside though, this is still pure Splinter Cell all the way, and considering this is Sam Fisher's last foray on the PS2 (or any of the current-gen consoles for that matter), this is definitely worth picking up.
A OK Game

Its a great game.. it gives you the adventure of a double agent.. to choose what side to help at certain times when it may or may not matter.. but i believe the story line changes very little if you side one way or the other.. if you go too rogue then you have less equipment to do the next mission with and if you go to far one side or the other.. you have to do a quick easy mission to level there suspicion and then everything is ok. and both sides trust you eaqually again.. so you can kill 2000 people if you like.. and then rust to a pc to say "oops, i had to do it for the mission" and then you not bad. lol but it still a lot of fun even with that.. cause you feel as if your in control.. and it gives you diffrent routes to take to complete the same mission. over all im glad i played it!
Splinter Cell DA: an excellent addition to the SC series

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell DA is an excellent addition to the series and compliments the previous edition, Chaos Theory, in both graphic design and gripping story line. One distinguishing characteristic not found in any other edition, however, is the ability to directly manipulate this story line within certain parameters by choosing to side with either the terrorists or 3rd Echelon. Splinter Cell fans will not be disappointed!

This Game is freaking sweet! Every move you make dictates how well you are trusted in either the NSA or the terrorist group: JBA you infiltrated. You have to be even more caculating then in all the other games. This game in some levels you are playing with a teammate (not coop but in single player). The Graphics are what you would expect from Splinter Cell: The Best the PS2 can offer. I would strongly recommend this game to you if you like the splinter cell series.
