After ZUMA's success, a number of clones appeared - but the LUXOR series is the one that actually improved on some aspects of the concept.
A series of colored balls (with the number of different colors increasing every few levels) gets pushed and you have to match them in sets of three or more in order to remove them - and prevent them from reaching the end zone. Instead of having the "shooter" in the center, it is located at the bottom and it slides left and right. This makes for some quite difficult shots (especially when obstructed by the advancing row of balls) and raises the difficulty of the game. On the other hand, the power-ups are more powerful, at the end of every round a number of coins and gems drop and "catching" them add lives to your paddle. It seems pretty straight-forward yet it can become highly...addictive!
This is an example of what has come to be known as Casual Gaming: small, resource-light games that are fun for the whole family.
It would not be a bad idea to download the 60-min trial version from a casual games site, such as REFLEXIVE (you can Google it), and decide for yourself whether this is indeed your cup of tea.
RECOMMENDED!

I was a little worried about ordering this game. I had a bad experience purchasing from Amazon before. Even though Amazon made it right, it still made me a little gun shy.
I took a chance and was pleasantly surprised. My game arrived earlier than I expected, it was new (as stated) and still sealed, and it works perfectly. I really did get my money's worth on this one. I would say I would order again from Amazon.

Both my wife & myself like the game but it's almost impossible to get past level 8-4. She get more practice time than I do. It's definitely worth the money for hours of enjoyment.

Luxur definitely gets the adrenaline flowing. It challenges you with quick strategic thinking and focus. It's a hand/eye coordination challenge for the end user.

I love playing Zuma, so I was sure I would like Luxor too. It is just as addictive as Zuma but a lot harder to get through. Not only are there many more levels but the degree of difficulty naturally increases. There are a few levels where it's almost impossible to accumulate enough lives to get through and this is the biggest fault I find with the game. It's very frustrating to keep getting killed off on, say, level 11-4 and then having to return to 11-1 to start all over again with only two lives. I have heard that people have succeeded in completing the game, so I guess practice makes perfect.
Another problem is that if you move your mouse too close to the perimeter of the screen in order to get the best shot at the balls, the game pauses and you have to press the space bar to start it again (and usually have to click your mouse back inside the screen). This interruption is usually enough to interrupt the flow of the game and it's very easy to lose at that point. I hope it's not a deliberate ploy by the people who designed the game.
I get very frustrated when I play Luxor but it's so addictive that I do it over and over again.
Buy this game!!!

I have never played the CD-Rom computer games before scared of all the kids games I had seen with Kickboxing and all the graphs that just make me tired, but this games is great for adults and kids! Shooting jeweled balls sounds boring, but it is fun! Simple to understand and you can play for hours. It is great when you get home tired after a long day at work and just want to play and forget the day! I have to set a timer so I do not play too long and get nothing else done that night.
If you get tired of dying at the upper levels - try Luxor 2 next - you can set the level of difficulty to easy on it and just cruise through having fun. I do think it is valuable to play Luxor and get used to it first before buying Luxor 2 - it is too easy to get lost in the graphics if you have not played the game before.
Enjoy!!!
If you like Zuma, get this one

I was a total Zuma addict and played it through 4 times. I bought Luxor because it looked similar and found it just as challenging and fun. Levels get pretty tough starting at Level 7, but it is possible to play all the way through without cheats. If you think Level 8-4 is bad, just wait until the very last level.
