A Disappointment

First I'll tell you what I liked. Yes, I did have to lower the graphics' settings even though I bought a new computer(and a good one at that) a month after buying the game. Their graphics were still good, and the scenery was more realistic. I like the way the services work. No more having to remember what direction someone walks after leaving a building so that you can guarantee coverage. It's much easier to work the markets and distribute coverage of different services.
I also like how you can designate what class of people would live in each area from the start. It would drive me crazy in caesar 3 how once wine was introduced, everything became a villa, and everyone stopped working. You don't have these issues anymore and therefore, labor is so much easier to work. I also like the greater variety of goods available in this game.
Now for what killed this game for me. I tend to choose the military cities; more fun coordinating a battle. The battle segments of this game are just awful! No other way to put it. They take forever to get to where you want them, and getting them set up is a major pain. When all is finally taken care of, it looks so completely fake. The battle graphics took a major leap backwards. I would have rather they made all the changes I discussed above, and left the military alone. Since battle is what makes or breaks a game for me, I only gave it 2 stars. Oh yeah, it crashes a lot on me too!
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I've played this game for a few days now, and I find it to be clumsy and difficult to work with. I really liked Caesar III, as I felt I could really get a strategic sense of what I was doing in a mission. This game feels just too big to get anything done. Certainly it could be said that the graphic improvements are legion, but does it improve the play of the game? For me no, it makes it worse.
I would download the demo and try it for yourself before buying this game!

I have read all the other reviews of people having difficulty to run the game, but bought it anyway. I am such a Caesar 3 addict, that I had to have this, even if it is buggy.
So I got it and started playing, and it looked great. Then it started crashing. I got the patch, which refused to install, giving me a message I'm running the wrong version of the game. Got the other patch, but it is doing the same.
Last night, after less than a week since I got Caesar 4, I uninstalled it, very very disappointed indeed.
Don't do it to yourself.
It is easier to commit suicide then play this game

I have basically the same problems as the last reviewer still stuck in one scenario. The advisors who are suppose to advise me to greatness does not advise anything. Before I updated my videodrivers the game use to crash whenever lightning struck the town. I wasted many of moons trying to fix it and when I did i was happy, but the prosperity level never rose when I did everything right, and sadly the citizens are basically pretty drones who complain mindlessly about nothing.
I expected better tactics when commanding the military like Caesar III but unfortunately the only thing you can do with the militia is to move them around and hope they fight well which is quite sad and pathetic. I wish I didn't break my Caesar III disc because I was in the last level and almost finished with the game.
Poor execution

This one turned out badly and I hate to say I bought it. Buggy worse than normal, it is a rough game. The fact that another patch is not yet available is terrible. The support site blames your system or card but offers no practical solutions. Too bad. I trusted PC Gamer's review and it is the first time they let me down but they have adapted more of a partnership with the game companies now and a liberal grading program that passes more stinkers. Do not buy this game...even when working it is not but a bargain bin game.
This is a really good city sim/strategy game

I guess I've had it about a month. I read all the reviews before buying Caesar IV and was a bit worried about bugs and graphics requirements. I have a three year old Pentium 4 3.0 ghz processor with a half gig of RAM and a Geforce 7600 256 mb video card. The game runs fine on the factory default settings. I have not felt the need to look at or adjust them. The game great and plays perfectly. No crashes or video problems at all. I have not played online yet. I have played this game for hours without realizing how long it's been. It is thoroughly engrossing. I knocked it one star due to the time it takes to load up. Could be my machine though as my kids have put all kinds of online junk that may be slowing it down.

Ever since I played Pharaoh and Cleopatra I have been addicted to city-building game and this game makes me smile. Despite some annoyances with rotation angles and the really small city maps (for the beginning missions)I enjoyed the new 3D look and if you have an awesome gaming computer, the shadows, lighting and passing day effects will look amazing.
Overall, I was not extremely hooked, but it's a game you can definitely play in passing.

I can't rate the game really, because I'm afraid to buy it. With much anticipation of the final release, I downloaded the demo. It wouldn't run. Not a good advertising ploy. Well, something else will come along to get me interested again...
Have not used much.

I have not used this game much, so the review could go either way. I have tried the tutorial a couple of times and noticed the graphics were weak with white splotches. Of course maybe my system is not powerful enough to run this. Basically I have to give a 50/50 rating due to lack of use.

I wouldt recommend any sierra games because they are basically the same, you always have to fight to keep you city going and the graphics are lame.
