Best bar in any game I've played yet

I really enjoyed the bars & songs. Just awesome. The playing was fun, the rat scenerio was awesome. Overall, this game was fun but not intense. This is not addictive but worth the money. Pretty easy to catch on which was great for this new gamer.

Great idea, poor execution

I liked the concept of Bards Tale but quirky and fun does not equal "good".

It suffers from a lot of the same problems that so many games suffer from Its flashy it looks cool, but it is way too short and has absolutely no replay value.

Its not its fault it just suffers because its an Xbox adaptation.

Complete waste!

If you want to throw away money, buy this game. The poor interface and hideous execution make this one of the worst games I've ever tried to play. As for the attempt at humor, forget it. The best thing about this game is the tolerable intro in the booklet that comes with it.

Fantastic! A wonderful game! Nicely done!

I confess that I prefer playing games sitting around a table. It is a social thing for me. I was more than pleasantly surprised by the Bard's Tale. This is not a re-release of a classic game; it is an entirely new game that is extremely well done. I had to battle my teenage son for computer time to complete the quests. He played the game as well. From the witty banter to the nice game play, reasonable puzzles, and "snarky" hints, this game is a classic.

You nasty little Bard you...

This game is really fun... my complaints were that it is pretty much linear in it's design without many choices in dialogue & exploration. The graphics were choppy on my system (but I have a better system now & haven't tried it on this one yet) The game is hilarious in parts. I can still hear those nasty little goblins? singing... In summary if you want a game that provides a good diversion for a short amount of time (about 20 hours) this one is worth the money. I would buy a used copy though... replay value is really non-existent.

This also contains the old Bard's Tale games!

As a bonus feature on the disk, this game contains the full version of Bard's Tale I through III. I used to play these games back in 1990s. They are three great classic RPGs in their own right. To me, for the price of [...] the classic games alone are worth it.

As RPGs go, The Bard's Tale is competent, but not special. The top-down interface is OK, though I personally would prefer an eye-level view. The interface is easy to pick up if you are right handed (as I am). A left handed person would probably have to struggle with it a bit, or remap everything. The game mechanics seem to be well done, though as with many RPGs, the story is quite linear and you are pretty much instructed to "go here, do that" all the way through.

The real beauty of this game is the sense of humor the designers/programmers have. First of all, it's very self-aware, in the sense that the character notices, and usually complains about, all of the usual RPG cliches. The interplay between the narrator and the bard doesn't get tiring. The cut scenes reveal the bard's true motivation quite well, and if you've ever thought seriously about this kind of thing, you'll see that they got it spot-on. The voice acting is mostly well done.

All in all, this game, though not the most fabulous RPG ever (I'd have to nominate Morrowind/Oblivion for that), is the funniest one I've ever played, and I anticipate at least one repeat.

This game was a blast to play and very funny. Excellent graphics, sound and game play. Only draw back was the game play was to short for me. The first go was the best. I loved the fun character narrative and songs!!! I laughed a lot and was spell bond!!! Well worth the money for the fun!!!

It's Bad Luck to Be Me

I really enjoyed the sarcasm involved in the dialog and the interaction of the Bard and the Narrator. The storyline was good and did a great job incorporating song and instrumentals befitting the Bard. The Trow's Ooompa-Loompa-like song series of "It's Bad Luck To Be You," is hilarious. Improvements could be made in mapping and having an adjustable "camera angle."

Hilarious!

In this game you are the Bard - a wise-cracking smartass on a quest to rescue the beautiful princess Caleigh. The game is jam-packed full of little quests & adventures while maintaining a good storyline. The cons of the game are that each scene does need to load & sometimes there is a bit of lag in certain places. I wouldn't like to play this on an older computer as mine being brand new there was still an amount of lag to be annoying, especially in the middle of a battle. It wasn't as bad as I expected (from reading other reviews) however. Overall, it is a great game, very funny all the way to the end.
