Forget it! It has no "save game" except for checkpoints that are ridiculously far apart. If you get killed 90% of the way to a checkpoint, you have to do it ALL over again: clear the trenches, gun emplacements, bunkers, artillery emplacements, blow up the artillery, fight off several counterattacks - die once and back you go! The weapons have the worst accuracy of any game I've ever played if you don't include the ones at the local carnival. The online cheats and patches did not work and the ones by the "maker" don't fix any of the real problems. Otherwise the game is great. Kind of like a new BMW that has to go back to the shop every time you almost get to where you want to go.
Not as good as it could be

I dont know what the first reviewer is talking about. This is definetly not a 1star game. I played "road to hill 30" and thought it was excellent. Thought it was a bit short but left me wanting more and was eager for the next installment.
Well, after completing EIB on hardest level i have have many views on this game.
Pro's:
-Good attention to detail on models, weapons, maps
-Gameplay is original (i suppose Full spectrum warrior is similar but has no 1st person facility) and fun to use
-Large array of weapons
-A decent plot to the game. The intervals are long but this is only an annoyance if you are having troubles (i.e keep dying) at the start of levels (chapters)
-Decent length. I am not left feeling cheated after completing it
-AI is sometimes very clever, they realise when a grenade is useful and take good cover a lot of the time (ill get back to this).
-German AI is superior to the Americans, they know where the best shooting spots are ( a "Pro" if you like a challenge)
-No silly "where you point is where the bullet will go" shoting here. You have to use sights for accuracy (not really needed in a mad team charge. Lots of fun and a good tactic, well not really). The gun settles whilst you hold it sighted. Crouching position is more stable than standing, shame theres no prone position
Cons: AI (in occasions are stupid):
-You tell your team to use a supressed advance to cover and theyll do that but 1 sometimes stands in the middle of the road and gets shot up. Very annoying! This can mean you end up with little or no members through no fault of your own. Several occassions i have had to do huge (a whole frickin chapter) by myself. Not easy fun
-They are hopeless shots (not the germans i may add). They can only kill if the germans are stupid and walk out of cover, that doesnt happen often. On many occasions i have had to kill all the german troops by myself and using my team as a diversion
-your team will not always find the best shooting spots. You tell them to move and put supression on a point and one sometimes just hides around the corner and does nothing even though there is space for him to help out
Other cons:
-No grenade down the hatch feature anymore. I am really annoyed by this as panzerfausts are always placed in (placed by game makers intentionally) in hard spots so its hard to stop tanks
-terrain detail is a touch crude. well, the colours and textures are
-resource hungry. Granted my computer isnt great (overclocked 2800 sempron, 1gb ram, nvidia 5200 but come on! COD2 is better at using resources.
-such lies! even though you wait to shoot accuratley some germans never die unless you do it from a specific spot. In the last battle i kept shootin a soldier and all he kept doing was grabbing his neck and then shooting back
-Another shooting flaw is not being able to shoot through the MG slot in the sandbags. Even with a sniper rifle, you can shoot all you want you cant kill him even though you can see his face
-cannot use the 88's or the smaller cannon (cant think of the name) or the mortars and you cant move the MG42 even though its renowned for its portabilty
-Your team will not pick up a panzerfaust when its needed
-M1 Garand or the smaller semi-rifle are usless in comparison to the K98 for accuracy and power
Rant over.
Even though this sounds like a negative review the pros really outway the cons, honestly. Im not sure if its worth the money but if you're a war games fan and like attention to detail (maps) this is a must
Fun -->> 4.5/5 Overall -->> 3/5
I agree with the above.

I to have played the C of D 2 demo and I wasn't impressed to say the least. Why, just read what the first guy said, it's not as good of a game as B&A is or Earned in Blood will be. I only played the demo of this game but I can tell you that if Call of Duty 2 gets a higher score than Earned in Blood did in PC Gamer which was (8.7) then there is something seriously wrong! Based on it's demo, it is just an interactive movie to me and very limited. Earned in Blood is like fighting a real life WWII battle making the same desitions strategicly like a real Field Sargent would back then so there's the comparison between the two in game play! Judge for yourselve's. I highly recommend this game and the previous release to anyone who like's control over the entire situation and that requires a little more brain cells than just "run and gun" game play would. Come on Infanty Ward, it's getting old guys! Be creative and catch up with everyone else in the 21st century!

I've played all the Medal of Honor titles and Call of Duty but this and BIA Road to Hill 30 are the best. Some reviews will tell you that it has it's glitches but I haven't had a bad experience. I love the fact that you can control your own squad and have more control in the game overall. I also love the fact that it is based on real history. The production crew went to great lengths to reproduce towns and the environment these real men experienced. All of the production can be seen in the 'extras' in the game. Some of the towns in the game haven't changed much in 60+ years. It's a great WW2 first person shooter game. If you like these types of games I highly recommend it. Be prepared to spend hours on end of enjoyable play time.
This is why you should be able to return games

I'm put in a very awkward position here. On one hand I hate to criticize this game b/c it is based on the real life story of solider in WWII. I am sure that it is authentic; I am sure war really is that confusing and difficult. But on the other hand it is a really bad GAME.
In real life I am pretty good with rifles and I really can't imagine crouching 10 ft from a German who is stading in the open, lining up my sights just right, firing off an entire clip and then watching the still very much alive and unwounded enemy get up and shoot me. This game suffers from a crucial problem... trying to replicate, in detail, an experience that few of us face. And I can guarantee you that not one of those developers have ever fired a rife.
Now please don't get me wrong, if that were the only glitch in the game it would be like America's Army (which was still great) but unfortunately getting the game to the point where you can determine that flaw takes a bit of ingenuity. May I begin by saying that UBISOFT has the WORST installer I have ever seen. Confusing and clunky is a nice way to describe it. Once you get it loaded, the tutorial is just horrible. It vacillates between assuming you are a grade A moron to assuming that you are a rocket scientist. Somewhere in between please.
Ok, so you get past all of that only to encounter a really clunky interface. The various command options you need for such a wide array of tactical directions and events is just not there. Instead of single use hotkeys you find that some things can only be controlled within a particular type of environment that they call "situational awareness". On top of it, hotkeys do multiple things, press shift once and it toggles a new fire team, hold shift and it recalls your fire team. So what happens is you risk recalling teams you just assigned cause you got too excited and mashed down that SHIFT key too hard.
Last but not least, I need to get up on my soapbox for a second. I understand why game developers want to make games non-returnable. I really do. But, the game developer then needs to GUARANTEE the title. Now I am stuck with a poor game that I paid 29.99 for and it will an uphill fight to get any of that back. Especially since the developer listed no customer service or tech support numbers anywhere on the packaging. That is one thing I will give to Empire Earth II, it may be a horrible game but at least the contact info is right on the box so that you can tell them how horrible it is.
Just so you don't think I'm a negative guy... I thought MoA, CoD, America's Army and their sequels were great. Brother's in Arms just really missed the boat on this one.
A game to be avoided

The game itself is an acceptable try at a tactical game, though a little bit of a "one trick pony" in that it is played by doing pretty much the same thing again and again - get a base of fire and flank the Germans.
UbiSoft's decision to use Star Force protection software is a major problem. Deleting the game leaves the Star Force crap in your registry. Using Star Forces "deletion" software, available from their site, leaves crap in your registry as well. You have to get it out manually and even then it may be too late - my Plextor DVD burner now no longer display the contents of any CD put in it. And, no, I have never had any disk copying software on my computer (and even if I had, wtf business is that of either UbiSoft or Star Force? And even if I had, how do they justify disabling one of my optical readers even after their game is deleted?). I hate to say it but I am no longer purchasing UbiSoft games, not until they get rid of Star Force.
Excellent first person tactical shooter

Great game in all, nice story. It relies on skill. In order to defeat the germans in this WWII setting game the use of your squad is essental. You can order your squad to basically do and go where you command them.I find this game to be as close as a game can get to the real thing. If you like this game, play also "Close Combat First to Fight" It is similar to this game in some ways. You control and rely on your squad team to defeat your enemy

This is a review for all those guys that give this game a bad rating for antipiracy software ubisoft puts in. The reason you're having a problem more then likely is because you're using a DVD RW drive to load the game, you need to use a normal CD or DVD combo drive for installing the game. Ubisofts antipiracy software reads you have the game put into a DVD RW drive and it thinks you're trying to bootleg it, which in most cases people probably are. Farcry had the same thing and even most DVD movies have that to now a days. If you're a seriose desktop gamer you should have a primary CD/DVD drive and SECONDARY DVD/RW drive anyway, if you don't get one and stop crying about it.
This game has so so graphics, I wasn't blown away as much as I was with farcry when it came out but it was alright, I was mainly in it for gameplay and story. The voice overs leave little to be desired but watch Band of Brothers if you want an all star well scripted thing to watch. I'm into brothers in arms for the action and the squad control aspect which is really nice and innovative.
Kudos to ubisoft for making a secure and innovative game

This, like the first one is a waste of money, glad I borrowed it from a friend. The problems persist like BIA RH30.
Your squadmates are retarded. They either can't shoot even at point blank range or run out into the open even after telling them to take cover at a specific point, the whole route planned out for their safety.
The player is rendered nearly useless with any weapon especially the M1 Garand(it's accuracy can still compete with or beat anything today,I know I own one), aiming down the sights you bob the weapon as if you were drunk. Shooting at the AI does little to help either you or your squadmates, the only time you get one is a lucky shot usually after expending an enire clip or two.
The sounds still suck and little ambient sound though more than the original which had almost none except for a few parts on some maps.
As the level difficulty goes up the AI gets even better but your squadmates get dumber.
The graphics, like the original are little better than MOHAA(which by the way is a good game).
The levels are bigger and at least they got rid of the stupid internal voice over of the main character, they went a better route by having the main character remember what happened, makes it more emotional that way, at least a good point. The urban combat was used to a greater degree, again better than the original, more vechicles and weapons again brought some more improvement but still could not save the game.
The idea of taking command of a squad is a great idea however UBI/Gearbox keeps screwing it up, hope they improve the idea in the next game or its strike three.
Say what you will about COD2 but the intelligence of the players AI, the sounds and the weapons are much greater than in this game. Improve the weapon/player problem and the players AI intelligence and the game's series could have been a great. Don't listen to the fanboys save your money.
Tired of all the hype and BS.

You know, I am sick of all the hype about this game by a bunch of weenies that don't seem to know real combat, real weapons or realism of any sort beyond what they see on their TV screens.
This game is not the authentic real life war on-the-battlefield war game that all the geeks are hyping and signing the party line the company puts out.
I bought two of these games after reading the reviews and I have to say that you people don't know what you are talking about.
There is pseudo-realism and that is about it. Sure the maps are close, the look and sounds of the weapons are close and even the dialog is about right, but that is about as far as it goes.
These games fall down severely on the accuracy/authenticity in several key areas.
1.Ludicrous restriction on the tactical options available to the soldiers and the squad leaders. Some of this is bad level design, some of it is probably trying to make up for the limitations of their AI, and some of it is just plain dumb.
2. Ridiculous limitations on interaction with the environments. You cannot open doors or windows. You cannot climb fences. You cannot use the wire cutters that every paratroop carried. You cannot go under a normal barbed wire fence, which thousands of hunters do several times a day in america.
Barrels and crates don't blow up or even move when hit by a tank. You can't even climb over a low wall that some other men just went over.
Perhaps most unforgivable of all, you cannot go into a prone position or crawl. You know, the stuff they teach everyone in BASIC TRAINING!
3. The gunsights are ludicrous. The amount of creep even in a crouching position is ridiculous. If I was that shakey I'd head for the retirement home.
4. Terrible path blocking and object collision detection. Quite a few times when I had a perfect view of a target and as perfect a sight picture as you would ever want I could not hit the target no matter how many rounds I fired. In real life I would have put a round through both ears of my target.
5. Absurd size of the weapons relative to your field of vision when zoomed in. Come on folks this is ridiculously UN-authentic. There is a reason for the open sights on fast action weapons like the Thompson and other SMG weapons.
6. Really stupid scenario designs. There are several instances where you are put face to face with tanks and no tactical options except to run for enemy panzerfausts. Making this worse of course are the level designs that force you to follow a relatively linear and restricted path to said anti-tank weapons. This is completely ridiculous.
7. Poor level designs. Too many places you cannot go or step when you should be able to. Places you cannot jump over or crawl under where you should. Only in EIB do you get to even blow holes in the hedges with the TNT that all paratroops carried as part of their standard pack during that theater of operations, and then only in key places and one whole scenario.
8. Situational awareness mode. Give me a break. This is supposed to substitute for the advance study done by the troops? It's not even as good as a raw topo map dump. You are chained to camera angles around key points and there are no indications of any significant type for changes in elevation and quite often the terrain features are faded out due to the choices made for the camera angle.
9. Another limiting factor is that you cannot issue movement commands to a location you know is there but are not lined up on directly yourself and you had better be on the side away from the enemy when you issue the order. This could have been easily fixed by using some option to issue commands while in situational mode, especially if that were better done.
10. Lastly the much hyped authentic tactics. Authentic, sure, in a very introductory and watered down way, severely limited in permutations, applications and variations due to all the other limitations of the game.
By the way, I am both a veteran and an experienced programmer and I am highly disappointed with this game on both counts.
If this is the latest in realism then it shows what a sorry state the gaming industry really is in. Of course I still haven't seen AI in a commercial game yet that matched up to what I saw undergrad programmers doing in college during the 80s. We deserve better and it's not that hard to do. It's time we stopped allowing these companies to hype this stuff up like it is so great when it's all fluff like pretty pictures and sound.
Oh, one PS. The AI cheats. You can observe how the enemy becomes magically aware of things completely out of the blue, such as someone being behind them, not moving or firing, and behind cover. This is inexcusable.
