A More Accessible Version of the Rainbow Six Series for the Casual Gamer

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 0 / 0

If you are still on the fence in regards to the action-filled series of Rainbow Six, then wait no more. This game is more accessible to the casual gamer who is not into the nit-picky things involved in tactical squad based shooters. This game is more on the arcade side which is more forgiving to those who dislike stealth type of games. You can control your squad mates this time around and also run and gun. I would rank this game in the top five for shooters for the GameCube.

A good 1st person shooter

When I saw the commercial for this game, I thought that this was going to be awesome. Dont get me wrong, the game has great graphics, and will probably go in my personal top 5 shooters list, but there were a lot of little things that just could have been better. Ill start with the pros, then the cons.
There is a wide variety of weapons and gear. Weapons and world are very realistic. Can command team. Levels are challenging. Can design your own character, which is cool. Now the cons. Can die very easily. Al's are not smarter. In muliplayer, you cant see your gun, all you see is a crosshair, which I dont like. You cant pick up any guns that are dropped by others, which is annoying. This is a good 1st person shooter and deserves a 4.

Decent Game

All in all this game has been a fun diversion from the splinter cell series. I miss the tension/surprise of sneaking up on a goon & blowing his head off or stabbing him, or pulling him off of the balcony -- those were all truly enjoyable things.

What I like about R6L is the ability to run and gun your way through a number of bad guys and unload clip after clip into them. I also like the variety of weapons although I found myself only using 2-3 of the over 20 guns available. I wish you could switch midway through, or at will or something. Some levels start out great with the USAS12 Auto Shotgun, but when you get to a large room with 10+ goons, you start to kick yourself.

Gameplay is good, it flows real well from level to level. The unlockables/intel suitcases were cool, although some of the cheat codes were retarded (you can get invisibility after just 2 levels and beat the game with little or no challenge after that). The ghost cheat is just plain stupid and you can't unlock god mode until you've essentially beaten the whole game. I don't know, the cheats weren't the best reward system I think. Better guns that were more powerful would be worth my effort.

AI is not the best either, I can't even count how many times one of my "crack" team members stood up into my line of fire, WHILE I WAS FIRING!!!! that is so frustrating. Oh, and then there's the time all 3 of them are looking at the bad guy, but not shooting - go figure.

I gave this game an overall of 4 because it is highly therapeutic to run around dumping clips of ammo into terrorists, plain and simple.
