Awesome Game!

This game is not for the casual gamer. It is in-depth and intense. That being said... I love this game! I can't wait for MHF3! (The new version will be better for those who play alone as you will have fighter cats to help on the quests that are difficult...)

MHF2 (Monster Hunter Freedom 2) is one of the best co-op games available. We bought extra PSP's just so we could all play missions together, after we tested to see if we liked it, because it was so cool. For me the challenge of finding the right weapon to fight the monsters is great, but even better is finding treasures and surviving by your wits and knowledge as a player learns where items can be found and what can be combined to make new items. There are FAQ's online at various game websites that help a player build their character and know what a monster is weak to or which monster can be captured or how to find those rare items to create better armor... even what to take on a mission to help you survive. And the graphics? Stellar! The shooting stars over the desert night is one of my favorites.

There are times when glitches are frustrating, but we have learned how to avoid most of those. Even with the occasional glitches this game is awesome!

One of the greatest PSP remakes of all time

This game is, by far, one of the greatest games to hit the PSP. It has a lot of new, highly needed additions to it's PS2 counterpart, but it was well worth it. New Armor, new weapons, and new monster concepts were definitely a great addition. Good difficulty, also.(Especially, once you hit the 6+ star levels.) Very fun when playing ad-hoc with others also. I highly recommend this game. If you buy it and like it, tell your friends. It will only make the game that much more fun.

Very fun

The monster Hunter series is one of my favorite ones. The psp MH games are basically the games that didn't come the U.S for the PS2. A word of warning you and the loading screen will be seeing alot of each other. The longest load time is actually starting the quest about 10-20 seconds, once on the quest it goes by pretty fast if you turn on the background loading, but it does use your battery life pretty fast.

AS it is with all the games in the series it has a steep learning curve. You have to observe how the enemy moves, what its weakness is, time your moves, and what combination of armor and weapon to use. There is to much stuff to go into detail, such as the newly added gems that you can make to infuse your armor with new abilities. (different combinations get you various effects, not always good effects)

If you are new it starts out with some training missions to get you started. But I have to say the thing that got me coming back for more was multiplayer, I remember hours of fun trying to hunt down the big monsters to get better armor or weapons. I should mention this game is adhoc meaning you need to be around the people to play multiplayer. If you don't know anyone with the game or a psp, I suggest doing a search for Xlink and buying a wifimax. Follow the instructions and bam you are playing with people around the world.

too hard for a non hardcore gamer

sorry guys. I spent many an hour on this game but had to put it down cuz the levels (starting from 3 stars) are just impossible to beat. I love the graphics and the wierd humor of this game (cats that cook your food, wierd english translations etc ) but 20 tries to beat a wyvern or what not is just too much. none of the weapons were easy to use and the game quickly went from fun to a huge drag. there is no doubt that many love this game. few are willing to part with it under $[...] bucks and it has been on the market for a while. Better weapons, the removal of the need to farm and catch bugs(???) would turn me into a lover of this game. i hope you are hearing me capcom!!!

Terrible, would give negative stars if it was possible

This is, by far, the worst game I've ever played. First, the camera control is ludicrous, instead of the camera moving automatically in the direction you are traveling, it persists in facing whatever way you manually point it. This means that you will potentially blindly run into enemies during combat b/c you have to manually swing the camera to face opponents who just ran past you at lightning speeds. Second, there is absolutely no plot to this game, it is a mind-numbingly boring pursuit of ingredients to make armor and weapons. Third, the in-game tutorial does teach you to fight, but does very little else for teaching you game mechanics. Last I would say that the supposed "huge game world" is severely disappointing. You are actually limited to a small number of maps that are repetitive and boring. I also found the addition of the cats that can cook for you to be especially stupid, I didn't even bother pursuing that aspect of this game. I would give this game negative stars if it was possible. Do not be lured into buying this game thinking you are going to be roaming around some giant world killing monsters, doing cool quests and collecting magic items while developing a plot.

Good, but not for everyone.

Okay I bought this game after viewing several player made reviews. They all basically said the same thing, "takes time". I was willing to accept this, being a fan of RPG-like games, so I bought it. When I played the game for the first time, I immediately noticed the beautiful graphics, but I soon ran into what was, for me, the two aspects of the game that made me quit: Loading times, and weird controls/camera. I have a PSP "Phat" so each load between areas takes about 10 seconds for me. This puts a major cramp on the enjoyability of the game, especially since there is a LOT of areas you have to travel through. The camera and controls take away from the game as well. Combat is made extremely difficult because of the controls, and the fact that the camera doesn't adjust automatically will cause you do die alot during combat (if you aren't used to it yet). If you think you can get around these two aspects of the game, then this might possibly be one of the best games for the PSP. If not, then don't bother buying it.

Monster Hunter 2. Extreme fun, and challenge.

MH2 is a very fun game. Different from most RPG's because there are no
level up's, but in it's unique way still a lot of fun. From game-play,
sound, graphics, and cinemas; all top notch for the PSP. The only
other thing to mention is the factor of skill required. In the begining
and middle of the game, the challenge is moderate, allthough later
towards the end it becomes VERY hard.
All factors included, the game is awesome, though a little difficult.

First of all, one of the reviewers here said that it is impossible to get past a certain level by yourself. Wrong. It does take practice and patience and an eye for detail, but a hunter must analyze a creatures habits if he is to hunt it more efficiently. Monster Hunter Freedom 1 was literally impossible to solo because it was made for multiple hunters, however 2 has been scaled back a little bit to make it soloable.

I played the first one for 600 hours. I am up to 250+ hours on this one. i have about 15 other games in my case and I never play them because I am so addicted to this game. great fun with friends, great fun alone.

the battles can last up to 50 minutes each. most of them will not even take half that long but later in the game, you will be up against stronger monsters and the satisfaction you get from killing a Black Diablos with just 2 minutes remaining is fantastic.

Bottom line, this game is for hard core gamers. if you just want to blow through and 'win' the game in 30 hours you will have barely scratched the surface.

Awesome if you can get over the controls

I bought this game on a recommendation from a friend who said it was the best game ever. I then checked the on-line reviews for the game and they all agreed. The problem is the controls. They are frustrating and difficult. The camera doesn't move on its own to follow, rather you are forced to spin it manually or click the L button to have it snap behind you. This creates a difficulty that has nothing to do with the monster or puzzle of how to deal with the monster. Personally I found that frustration to be too much and eventually put the game down, despite the fact that the game is a LOT of fun. Managing resources improving weapons farming mining to get better weapons. Hiring cooks to cook special meals to get power boosts. The whole thing was incredibly detailed and thoroughly enjoyable. Unfortunately I have never been one to enjoy games where the interface was an aspect of the difficulty level. Give the monsters more HP make them faster or do more damage. That is fine. Making me not be able to see them because the camera won't rotate properly is frustrating to no end. Like the old jumping puzzles of yore (and not so yore) and mazes. Gawd do i hate mazes (unless they are filled with monsters and treasure :P)

This monster Hunter Best Due to the new monsters and morwe possibilities

In this monster hunter i have completed many of the missions and i am good at it. the thing is at first i was never good at monster hunter but i worked my way up, if anything if you have one of the first ones(for the psp or ps2). you should be good, but if you havent i decide that you should try that one out first.anyways back to this game review. in the game more things are able to be created and the places look different. More monsters, which include newer Dragons, newer wyverns and small creatures. if yo look for good challenges ahead pick this up, but if you hate stuff that might take long before you beat it then i'd say no to those people. Alltogether it is filled with hours of fun.
