Thus far, I have 2 systems that cannot play this game. One a high end computer, the other a midrange computer.
In both cases, I found Direct X errors. These errors can be fixed by downloading the MOST recent patch from Microsoft. The error mentions file d3dx9_30.dll. If you see that head off to Microsoft.
When I finally got it to run on the high end system, continuous crashes before playing. The most common one is "an assertion error" that locks up the game when I try to start a career.
Activision needs to patch their software and make their website more friendly to use for people looking for problems.
Hang onto your 20 bucks until they fix this game and fix their company website.
Terrible game

cons: 1. took over ONE HOUR to load game ... got to be the record for the
slowest loading program ever..
2. Game play is not user friendly and Activision's attempt to have
"real people" as opponents fails completely.
pros: 1. Only good thing about this is Amazom's return policy (which I am
using on this loser).
Play Party Poker on line ... it's more fun...

Requires patches from microsoft to load, slow loading (40 minutes) on high-end computer, and unstable thereafter; lock ups and crashes. This product is, in all respects, a piece of junk. If your time is of any value and your are purchasing this product for recreational purposes, then this product from activision, like most of their products, is a waste of your time and money. Even if activison would pay me a specified amount of cash, say $1,000.00 (pre-paid directly to my bank account), to try their product "World Series Of Poker: Tournament of Champions," I'd have to pass on it as the experience and a $1,000.00 wouldn't be worth the aggravation. I have finally decided to never purchase anything from Activision again; and there will be no exceptions to this new rule!

If you like playing rigged poker, then get this game. The hands are fake.
They're not randomly dealt, as in real cards would be, but set up by the programmers to 'teach' you poker. The AI's either know they're going to win a hand, or they know what you have, but I suspect the former. Case in point: This is about 1/2 way through the tournament, and I am chip leader or very near it. I have KK before the flop, there is a raise ahead of me. Action gets to me, so I raise it, doubling the previous raise to something like $19,000. I have $56,000 in chips, and after my raise, the other raiser goes all-in, so of course I call it. This is all before the flop, mind you. He has Q-5. He hits 2 pair on the flop, and no paired board for me to win against his 2 pair. He came out raising with a Q-5 to begin with (before the flop), and went all-in at my re-raise. Rigged. And this is not just one incident. I've seen it dozens upon dozens of times in all the games I've played of it. This is just one of the more glaring examples of it.
It reminds me of one the Chris Ferguson quotes (tips) that come up in the game: "Poker is not only about winning hands, but also keeping yourself from losing big hands". True, but remember, my example took place all before the flop and before any cards had been seen. The game is rigged to 'teach' you poker.
Sorry, that's not real poker. Also, on the first hand of just about every tournament, an AI will have A-A, K-K, or A-K. Just about every first hand of every tournament.
If you like playing rigged hands, then by all means, go for it.

I have tried to install this game on three different computers. After a lengthy installation process, when I try to run the application, I get an error message that a file is missing.
Silly problems plague this game

I've run in to two out of the three support issues listed on the Activision Value support site for this game. I'm sure I'd hit the third one if I could actually play the game.
The DirectX problems mentioned by others are silly, but fixed easily enough with a download from Microsoft. Still -- why not just install the latest required DirectX as part of the rest of the install?
Once I got DirectX fixed I ran in to the issue where my keyboard and mouse won't work in the game, making it completely unplayable since I can't do anything once the game loads. I followed the oh-so-helpful support tips to remove non-essential USB devices but after unplugging everything except my mouse and keyboard it still wouldn't work.
Don't waste your money on this one. Play one of the free games online or find some other game if you really want a standalone PC game.

Really liked playing this game, since I watch the WSOP on TV. However I made it through a full quick game of All-In Texas Hold-em about twice and now whenever I play it locks up after a seemingly random time with an application error:
The application, C:\Program Files\World Series Of Poker\wsop.exe, generated an application error The error occurred on 12/01/2006 @ 13:31:03.375 The exception generated was c0000005 at address 0040C39A (wsop)
ALSO
Faulting application wsop.exe, version 1.0.0.1, faulting module wsop.exe, version 1.0.0.1, fault address 0x0000c39a.
Basically have to agree with other reviews that this is getting to be a drag. Just when things start going good, crash! Checked the Activision web site and did not find any patches. Too bad! It was fun while it lasted. Liked the commentary by announcers.
Nice try Activision, it's in the details and support.

I bought 2 coppies so that I could play with my brother.
This game was the biggest let down since my second wife!!! I am just glad I can send them back.
After installing a very hard to find "patch" it would still not run on my computer. My brother got his running but the game crashed.
I am extreemly dissapointed in "Activision" and "World series of Poker" for putting their names and reputations on this product.
It appears that this was a game that was made for cell phone and lazily ported to a shotty PC game!
Terrible. They should get in trouble for selling this junk

Basically the game doesnt work. Every single review will back me up on this. They should pull it off the shelves. Diddnt Activision test the game before putting it on the market?
