Waste of time i must say

No im not someone who complains using opinion's, i complain using facts. I have had alot of online experince with this game so incase you think i make it all up, check /who rosskennedy.

First of all, the story line is so/so.
The online mode is great, for the first few months, when you become more involved in E.G crews, Flag's, Kings, captains, you start to come over a whole lot of stress. This game is full of backstabbers which is why i was in a whole lot of heat. Look onto it... You raise money to buy ships and shops and swords and all, All these things just help raise more money, you buy houses to sort out your money, and the only thing you get out of that money is a few portraits you spend a life time saving up for...

Three Rings Designs is a dodgy complany who say if you say bad words USING filter Chat, it is ok, BUT i still got banned for it, After i was unbanned, i came back on to find my ultimate paragon Sea Battle was changed into... ABLE NOVICE BATTLE NAVIGATION. After i saw this big upset, just left.

IF YOU WANT TO BE HARTBROKEN/PUT UNDER STRESS/ANNOYED FROM THREE RINGS DESINGS/BETRAYED BY FRIENDS WHO STEAL ALL YOUR MONEY, SIMPLY DO NOT GET THIS !

For all people who disagree, keep playing it and you'll find out =D, Thanks for reading.

Fun in its simplicity.

Okay, this game is rather amusing. There's lot to do in arcade style leveling which affects different parts of your pirate life, from swordfighting and drinking games, to shipbuilding. Crews go out on ships for more puzzling fun to collect one of the main sources of income for the game by battling other ships. There's crafting, and different ways to customize your character, and most everyone seems to get into the fun by roleplying pirate style. When I first popped on I couldn't stop laughing at all the people going "Arggg, billions of blue blistering barnacles, yar!!, etc." So it really can be all good fun and the ease of the game is charming.

On the down side, there are quite a few nagging elements. Puzzles can get Veerrrry tedious after a while, especially when you're on a ship puzzling for a captain who like to do long pillaging jaunts. You can leave at any time as long as theres no battle in progress and still get your due, but I do enjoy staying to the end. Thus, it's like how much more tetris style games can you take? I also realize that with a game called Puzzle Pirates that it probably attracts lots of the younger crowds, although theres still quite a bit of swearing to be found (Dont worry. There is a filter. And a cute option I might add to change swear words to humerous pirate phrases). Never in any other RPG have I ever seen so many adolescent players doing the regular idiotic things, begging for money, being little nimphos, going against game etiquette. So you end up with a lot of fun people to hang out with and unfortunately, an equally large amount of people who do only what the youngest of people playing mmorpg's do best.

Note, And the reason I didnt dock it too many stars: I'm currently playing the downloadable version that allows people a trial period for a few days and then a paid subcription. With the boxed version maybe this will improve, or maybe not.

I was already playing Puzzle Pirates when I purchased this boxed set; I bought it primarily because I wanted the "Backsword", an object for use in the on line game that has the advantage of never wearing out. I got what I paid for, and a bit more.

The CD contains an out of date Puzzle Pirates client that is still useful in that it provides off line access to four of the games puzzles for those inevitable times when the internet is not available. The CD key also gives you a month of time on the on line game (currently worth more than the price of this box) and your choice of either of two imperishable game objects: the aforementioned Backsword (not a great sword, but tolerable), or the Savvy Hat.

IF you play Puzzle Pirates, this package is extremely worthwhile at the current price.

If you like Tetris, games from Popcap.com like Bejeweled, and other action-puzzle games, you will love Puzzle Pirates -- not only can you play an ever-growing array of puzzle games, but you can do it with thousands of other people from around the world in a pirate-themed online environment. Your game performance will help power a pirate ship as you pillage your way across the ocean, or help create items in a player-run economy. A Puyo-Puyo-like swordfighting puzzle lets you battle computer-controlled brigands and other players to win booty and fame. Or, if you're feeling sociable, you can play card games with other players in the inns, or just hang out and chat.

Instead of the often-transient teams and somewhat anonymous guilds that other MMORPGs usually offer, players in Puzzle Pirates tend to join tight-knit, long-term organizations: crews and flags. You can join a crew of like-minded mates, and help sail ships, run trading voyages, and manage shops. Your crew can join flags, which can compete in the game of empire, blockading and governing islands. In addition to your personal goals, you'll find yourself puzzling and politicking for the benefit of your crew and flag. There's some lightweight roleplaying, as well -- get ready to say "Yarrr!" a lot.

Though the culture of each "ocean" varies, most are populated by intelligent, polite, mature players, although there are also some that are dominanted by raucous youngsters -- try out a few to see where you feel like you fit in. The developers are highly responsive and the quality of customer service is very good, and the OceanMasters do not tolerate griefers.

Puzzle Pirates is primarily an online, multi-player game, but this new retail release adds some offline puzzling fun, as well as giving you a free month's subscription to the online game. Puzzle Pirates is like the lovechild of Popcap and Everquest, with all the best characteristics of both. A persistant world, with player driven plotlines and economy, all powered by puzzles that are both simple and mind-bending at the same time.

If you like Bejewelled or Alchemy, you'll love Puzzle Pirates. If you like Everquest or Worlds of Warcraft, you'll love Puzzle Pirates. If you like pirates, you'll love Puzzle Pirates. And if you don't love pirates, well, what do you love?

Like arcade games? Like to clear your head with a quick game of Bejeweled or Tetris? This game gives you an opportunity to join an online community of similarly minded people who happen to say "Yarrr, me hearties!" a lot?

The 'puzzles' in the name of the game refer to the jobs that you do on ships & on land. They will remind you of other arcade and puzzle games that you can play without interacting with other humans in the comfort of your computer room. The difference is that instead of getting 'points' for your game, you get ratings & rankings according to how well you do. Your performance also affects the operation of the ship or community in which you're 'working.' For example, if your ship is damaged while under attack, the captain might order you to perform some 'bilging,' which just happens to look a lot like Bejewled. The better you play your game, the faster the bilge is cleared. And the faster your overall game ranking rises.

The nice thing about this multiplayer game is that some servers are free to play. So for a casual gamer who just wants to pop in for a while & play some arcade games in a crowd, it's idea. For power-gamers who need more perks, the ability to play dress-up, etc., the game designers have created subscription plans and an interesting pay-as-you-go concept of buying just the 'stuff' you want.

If you are looking for a MMORPG, this is not it; the 'role-playing' aspect of this game seems to amount to saying "Ahoy" and "Yarrr" a lot. But the game community is fabulous; with few exceptions, the other players are helpful and friendly. I have never seen any recriminations for poor performance at a job, but ship captains will not hesitate to make obnoxious, abusive sailors 'walk the plank.'

The game offers varying levels of smut filtering for the chat channels, but in a week of playing I have never seen any language that would be objectionable for my own kids. And, unlike some other games I have played, I also have not seen any discussion topics (e.g., sex, drugs) that would be objectionable for kids.

All in all, it's a fun, family friendly game to fill the space between 'real work' and 'chores.'

The Best Game Ever

This is one of the best games ever made. It has everything you want, from puzzles to adventure to good old-fashioned talking. Convince your friends to get online with you and form your own crew! Sail the 37 seas and earn lots of booty with each pillage! The gameplay is magnificent, with your pirate being customized with how you want he/she to look. Buy new clothes and update your wardrobe. Build ships and make rum. Weave cloth and sell it in a shoppe. Have swordfights with swords and compare and contrast the strengths and weaknesses for each kind of sword. Move up in the rankings and in your crew. Avast me hearties! I'll be seeing ye online! (By the way, this game is a free online game at puzzlepirates.com. This purchased version has single player and extra stuff that free players can't get, only the purchased versions have them.)

Fun and competitive

This game is great. The box set has an offline version, subscription credit, and in-game items. The online game is a subscription based Pirate environment, with team puzzling. There are also single player puzzles and computer opponents.

Overall I find it hugely entertaining. I love my "crew" and being able to compete against other players, and the "Aaarrghs!" and "Huzzahs!" help keep it light. But it allows for some pretty serious puzzling, and the game keeps getting more complex.

Or you can just stand around and chat with other gamers, and there are several card games and other parlor games.

It is a tough game, so it is good to remember that it is rated for teens and above. Being able to interract well with other players is vital, young kids probably won't enjoy that responsibility.

It's great for us big kids though! I love to dress up my little pirate and go out for a swordfight or a pillage.
