This game was the biggest waste of twenty bucks I have ever spent in my life. The gameplay was insanly easy and I finished the game in under six hours. After that, you don't get any more cases to solve. That is it. Two days of light playing and it goes to the road side. If you want any value for your money, go pick up a copy of anything but this. I will never buy a Legacy Interactive product again in my life.

Don't bother trying to play this game on a laptop -- it never started on mine (a new, high-end dell). I checked the tech support board for legacy interactive and it seems other people have the same problem. Extremely frustrating.
Please, stop making L&O games.

I hesitated to buy "Double or Nothing" becuase I had purchased the first L&O and was very disappointed. Luckily, I got this one at a discount price. I am tired of games that do the work for me. I get to hunt for clues with my mouse but when I find them, I do not get investigate them or make any suppositions about them. That's all done by my helpful partner. Why does he get to have all the fun? Why not give me the opportunity to decide if this is possibly a useful item? There are no real puzzles, all of the questions are spoon-fed to you (even when you do not select that "skill" in the beginning and the game is too short and too predictible. The only good thing about it is that there was no time limit as in the first game. These two games together are so bad that I will never buy another L&O game, ever. I've said the same about the CSI games. I guess you can't blame the makers for wanting to cash-in on the popularity of these shows, but you do no justice whatsoever to the cast, writers and the image of the show. Please, in the name of all that is good, stop making these games.
A BIG Headache.

I enjoy detective games. CSI, Nancy Drew, etc. However, I did not like Law & Order 2. First for the large cost the graphics are stiff and appear cheap. But my BIGGEST complaint (it may not be a problem for others) is that in order to search for evidence, the scene pans around. I found my self nauseated and had a severe headache. I am unable to complete this game because of this problem. In CSI and Nancy Drew games if you wanted to turn left you could move the mouse left and the screen will move slowly with the cursor moving on the screen. In this game if you move the mouse left, the cursor on the screen does not move....the whole picture moves in entirety giving you the sensation of the rug being pulled out from under you. Please do not think I am "fragile", I am not.
This may not be a problem with most people. But please be aware, if you experience motion sickness, ( I never have before) then this game may not be for you.

I don't know if the cd was defective or not but I've never had a game that crashed as much as this one. The story line wasn't that good either. Maybe because I was so frustrated with trying to keep it up and running that I couldn't consentrate on the story. I'm giving it a 2 star because I liked the other Law & Order games. Ho Hum, maybe next time.

When you get stuck and think you've done everything you need to do, there is no help button to get a clue and keep going. I got about 3/4 through it and gave up because it was too time consuming to keep trying the same old things over and over.
I loved the game, but when you get stuck, you stay stuck.

If you enjoy the TV series, then you'll like this game, as if follows all the stylings of the show. For non fans, however, the game comes off as a dull point-and-click mystery that really offers no incentive to keep playing it after a few hours.
While there are tons of different scenes to gather evidence at, it's always the same experience, you click on objects to pick 'em up and put 'em in your dossier. Then you send them off for processing at the lab or other relevant department.
The storyline has plenty of twists to keep fans playing the game, but most gamers will just get tired of the little surprises and jump from scene to scene, hurridly collecting clues.
The environments are doen in a quicktime VR type of format, which means you can't really walk around them at all. You just spin in place, point to an object, click and pick it up. Or you point to a car, for example, and click to enter it. If you're not pointing and clicking to gather evidence, you're dragging and dropping it into a research folder.
Graphically, it's not all that hot, as characters are blocky and movement is marionette-like, even in the cinematic sequences.
The two high points are the storyline and the voice work. The story was done by a staff writer, and the voices were actually provided by the show's cast.
In the end, I could see this being worth $10, maybe $20, but certainly not $29.99. Wait for it to hit the bargain bin if you're really interested in it.

i got this game for christmas, and boy was i happy. i had heard only the best about it. i put it in and played and played and played for 9 hours straight. i finally won and got my conviction and i was so happy, i couldn't wait to get to my next mission. then i didn't know how to, and then i went to all these sites and they talked about one mission, then i read one on amazon confirming my thoughts. there is only one mission. now i dont know about all of you, but when i get a game i like it when you can do more than one thing. the mission was fun, and it took time and patience to complete, but when your done you sit there for a second and go wait...I, (or a relative) just spent thirty dollars on a game where you can only do one thing. you can do this thing as much as you want, but still it is just that one thing with minor differences. i felt like suicide. i'm warning you, if you are going to buy this, buy it used or borrow it from a friend, because it may be fun and the show is fabulous, but when you finish you wont be happy at where your money went

This game is a thriller if you are a Law and Order fan you'll love it. There are many plot twists and climaxes in the game. And the best part is, you never know what's gonna happen.
Good plot and acting, lousy length and evidence controls

Law and Order 2 brings a decently twisted murder plot along with 3 regulars from the series (Briscoe, Van Buren, and Sotherlyn) but has about only 6 hours of effective gameplay and serious issues with controlling characters and items.
Essentially, you start off in the 'law' side as the junior partner to Briscoe in a murder investigation of a doctor working on a mysterious cloning project. The interview process is actually not bad; if you miss a question you can always return to the witness later, and you don't seem to get penalized for asking the questions that don't advance the plot (you can tell as the witness answers a simple 'yes' or 'no' rather than a sentence.)
The second half has you in the 'order' side playing the ADA (its not clear, but arguably Sotherlyn herself, as she seems to be the one jumping up to object). This was significantly more challenging than the law side as you have to know something about the rules of procedure in court - and if you don't, the defense attorney will get away with a ton of jury swaying. Still, there's enough of a briefing so you have some idea of what you should be objecting to and what questions you're allowed to ask.
The plot was fun and satisfying. Where I knock two stars off is on two grounds. First, the game was far, far, far too short. Effectively, you can win this in 5-6 hours total - 3 for the investigation, and maybe 2 for the trial if you know what you're doing in court. Second, and more annoyingly, there is no effective control for evidence material. I have no objection to having to figure out what makes the best argument (although you can turn on the hints if you need help with that) but the problem is the evidence folder fills up very quickly and you can easily discard a crucial piece of evidence with no idea that its necessary, making you have to replay that section of the game to even have a chance at winning. That last thing made me spend another 4 hours on this gritting my teeth.
Still, worth it for $15.
