Underrated, Excellent Combat Sim,

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 6 / 6

I have read a lot of negative reviews of this game by the real "hardcore" flight sim fans who say it is too easy, and not realistic enough(so I guess that they have all flown real F-14s and F-18s, if not, then what do they know for realism?). Which is one of the main reasons I love this game. It is not as intimidating, and it allows for action and excitement that is so submersive, it makes up for any lack of realism, (and causes a lack of sleep as I wake up an extra hour early to get some dogfights going). The graphics are excellent 50,000 sq. miles of beautiful satelite based terrain and is worth the 1.5 gig install. Another thing I love about the game is that it is based in the Northern California / Bay Area, which is where I live. It is awesome to be able to fly under the Golden Gate bridge, up to Sacramento (my town) and on to Lake Tahoe. I suppose that makes me a bit biased, but whatever. My point is that if you have never played a combat sim before, and you want one that can be fun without having to quit work and go to flight school this is for you. If you live in the bay area and have an even remote interest in Flying games, this is for you. I have purchased and subsequently uninstalled Jane's IAF, F-15, and USAF. I guess I just do not have the patience, plus none of those games came with any documentation, nothing but installation insructions, when they should each come with a 500 page Flight Bible. I am sure that one day I will move on to those other games, cause I have read that they are all great, but so far I keep coming back to JetFighter IV.

FUN GAME!

I cannot believe all these bad reviews, so I guess these people are all Air Force veterans and have seen it all. To tell you the truth, I am very impressed with this game. It has A LOT of missions, it's extremely realistic, and above all, it's fun!! Also, this is the best PC Air Combat game I have ever played. You get to land on aircraft carriers, fly around the Golden Gate Bridge and engage in tough dogfights. In sum, I highly recommend this game.

Finally! A flight/combat sim that isn't too easy!

I used to play Jetfighter 2, until it refused to cooperate with Windows 95/98. Now, years later, I just saw Jetfighter 4. I snatched up a copy, put off everything else I had to do, installed and played. The graphics and terrain are highly realistic. The controls are very smooth and yes, it has a learning curve, but the training missions really help out with that.

The enemy aircraft are actually a challenge to evade, as opposed to many of the flight sims out there. I have no system problems with it so i would reccomend this to everyone!

Looking good...

Back in 1992 Mission Studios came out with Jetfighter, a pretty good jetfighter simulation game with good graphics by 1992 standards. Then Mission Studios announced their to Jetfighter sequel, Jetfighter II. A few years later Jetfighter III came out. A year later the long awaited Jetfighter III Fullburn came out, an improved version of the Jetfighter III. Now Mission Studios is coming out with Jetfighter IV Fortress America. All reviews that I have read are positive. With 50,000 square miles of land to fly over, Great Flight models, and detail 4 times better than that of Jetfighter III Fullburn. The terrain graphics were made from real satellite images of the San Francisco area, and continue deep into Nevada. The flyable planes are the F/A-18 Superhornet, F-14 Tomcat, and the F-22 Raptor. The game is coming out in Late September. I can't wait to get my hands on this game!

Excellent flight combat for all skill levels....

I have played this game on two different computers of mine and it runs just fine. It has a simple flight model and easy to use weopons controls. The detail of scenery is a little plain down low and nice high above. I think that the sound drivers could have been better since it does crash with sound problems. I think other raters here could still play the game well if they ever change their sound card.

This game runs best on win 95 or 98. This game is easy to play, if you are not good with avoiding all the SAMs than put it in invincable mode. Some of the graphics look a little flat at times. I like the game play and free flight. This is a fun and interesting game.

Caution: Requires ALOT of Patience

Before you buy this game make sure you have the patience for it.
I bought this game looking for a more arcade like combat sim. I had recently bought F/A-18 and couldn't even begin to play it due to the complexity of the controls. This is NOT much better.

Graphics: They are top of the line. The game is a visual delight for a flight sim, and that's where the 3rd star in my rating came from. (running it on a Geforce 3 Ti Series card)

Sound: Awesome. Great sound effects with the Audigy Gamer x card.

Game play: WAY too complicated for a game like this. It could have been one of the greatest arcade flight games ever made, but if you don't have the patience to learn to fly, bomb, and dogfight, for hours on end, don't bother.

I reccomend Comanche 4 by novalogic if your looking for some arcade fun. Two button controls, and the same awesome graphics.

Jetfight IV is very fun. The ground graphics are so-so, but the gameplay is awsome. The only downside is there only is a small amount of missions you can play before you've played them all. A plus is that the controls with the keyboard aren't confusing at all and they even give you cheats that you can use to make your plane invulnerable to missles, re-arm your plane in the air and re-fuel your plane in the air. Overall, I'd say this game is worth the money and is the best air-to air and air-ground simulater I've every played.

'Aight, so I was at Office Max one day and I saw this game for $1, so I bought it (or maybe it was $5)... Anyway, the single player is fun. There's an arcade feel to the game, so don't expect realism. You can land on water. Carrier landings are a bit challenging, to me anyway. The textures look excellent when you're about 5,000 ft. or more above them, but when you get close they look crappy, esp the 2D cities. There are some 3D buildings that disappear when you get a little far from them (they disappear too soon). There are lines visible in the texture-photos. Parts of the terrain aren't textured at all. I don't understand that.
The multiplayer is SEVERELY FLAWED as when you "kill" someone with a gun they'll explode but keep on flying. The people I was playing with got mad at me because I didn't eject after they told me I was hit. Someone hit me 5 times or so and I never ejected because I thought it was too hard to type,"I killed you." while flying.
Bottom line, don't buy this game for multiplayer. I was looking for a simple multiplayer game and this was a disappointment. Currently I'm thinking about getting F-22 Lightning III.

Problem Plagued

I thought, maybe, because it was outdated. Install was easy. When trying to enter a campaign my screen would go black, and I would have to re-boot every time. Then I couldn't even CTRL/ALT/DEL to get out of it. When I could play it, the graphics were good. That is until I tried to turn my aircraft. The HUD images would trace and trail, as well as other aircraft in view. Lack of instructions didn't help either. This sim is problem plagued. I'd rather go back to my Janes Anthology Fighters.
