Very Well Done Graphics.

This is a very enjoyable game, both in real life and on this PC version. I found the graphics to be excellent and almost as if one was playing the REAL BOGGLE. It even gives you the option to set your own timer and add any new words to its dictionary. Good job, Hasbro.

Game: almost great; BEWARE: Shipping is EXPENSIVE

The game is great. However the software has 4 different games on it. The install asks if you want all the content your hard drive so you won't need to use the CD. IN FACT, it only installs the basic game. The 3 others still want the CD in the drive to use it, a real pain.

Second: shipping was more than expensive. I thought this was coming direct from Amazon, but it came from an "outside seller," Hoots Loot. I wrote to them to complain about the shipping fee fore-warning "negative feedback." This is what I wrote to them(mostly complaining about the shipping charge, not defective software):

Dear Hoots loot,

I was disappointed with Boggle. I thought it was coming through Amazon "direct", not second hand. The shipping cost was ridiculous, several times more expensive than the CD.

The CD says it will install on the hard drive. It does; but only the first game. The other ones need to have the CD in the drive. This is a real pain.

Before I left negative feedback, the Amazon page suggested to contact you first. How can you help?

This was their icy cold reply:

Hi,

This is our policy for returning defective software, music or movies.

After selling half a million pieces of software, we realize that not all software is perfect.

However, we have found that 99% of the time, it is not the software, but usually the user or the pc it is being installed on that is the problem.

System Specs Amazon vs Ebay:

Regarding Amazon ONLY, if you have received a product that does not meet the system requirements as stated on Amazon, we have NO control over the specs listed on Amazon and do not issue refunds based on that issue. Questions regarding specs listed on Amazon need to be resolved before you buy.

Regarding Ebay we list our specs clearly in every ad and therefore will stand behind what we list and an item may be returned based on the specs.

Before returning any item, it is suggested that you:

Check with the producer or manufacturer website for updates or patches for the software you have purchased.
Be sure the system you are installing the software on is the system the software was manufactured for or the system we state in the ad it will run on.
Be sure you are allowing sufficient time for the software to install. Most items will install rapidly, however, we have seen some software that will appear not to be loading but after several minutes (as long 10 to 15 minutes in some cases) it will install.

Be sure the cd is clean. As all the product we sell is new, this is usually not a problem, however, sometimes fine dust will settle on a cd and impede the install process. By simply blowing on it will remove it the dust.

Unfortunately we can NOT replace or refund the following:

Items that were shipped 30 days previous to today's date.
Items we did not originally sell you. (Some buyers have attempted to return software not purchased from us - unfortunately, we will know if that is the case and no refund or exchange will be issued).

If you believe you have defective software, you may return it with a Letter Of Explanation as to the problem encountered, including your email address and original order number and of course your name and address..

Upon receipt we will test it.

If it loads and plays, there will be no refund or exchange of product. However, should you want the item returned, we will mail it back to you upon payment of our normal shipping rates.

If it will not load or play and has not been tampered with, we will replace or refund the item and pay the shipping, plus refund the shipping required to send the defective item back to us, up to the rates below:

All jewel case items must be returned by 1st class mail.

All retail box items must be returned by 1st class mail if possible.

You will need to send ALL THE FOLLOWING:

Item purchased with all the original packaging.
A letter explaining the problem encountered
Your email address
Your original order number
The name and address you wish a replacement to be sent.

Send the item to:

Incredibly addictive puzzle game

This game is a terrific way to while away a few minutes. It installs on your hard drive so that the CD does not have to be in the drive to play the basic game--just click, and start hunting for words. See if you can find more than the computer opponents. I have no complaints about this computer implementation (though I've never tried to play against another person, and I mostly stick with the basic game (Master version) rather than the special variations that are included); it's easy to use and fun to play, and I've more than gotten my money's worth.

Great, when it works

Love the computer version of Boggle. Unfortunately, it will not run on Windows 2000.

you can play boggle online. this cd does not work. the dictionary look up function simply does not work. also the boggle game does not accept thousands of valid words, words which are accepted on the web game. you can add these words in by hand to the boggle cd list so they will work in the future. but why should you have to. forget it. it [stinks].

Totally Addictive!

I can't begin to tell you how often I play this game. I'll look up from the computer and two hours will have passed. I love Boggle and am pretty good at it, but it's hard to get my family members to play with me because I usually win. When playing on the computer, I can play against "advanced" players and they'll play whenever I want. (And I don't always win, so it's more challenging). Easy interface, great fun.

You can have fun playing boggle on your computer, by yourself or with others, with this software.

However, the creators could have done better. For example, they could have allowed you to save games so that you could compare your scores over time on the same set of characters to measure your improvement. And they could have given you the option to turn off the annoying sound that blares away when the game starts up.

A real shame

It is my belief that some years ago a number of Hasbro executives met in a room and decided to cash in on their highly recognized board game titles by computerizing them. This could have led to definitive, high quality software versions of games like Boggle. Instead we have a game with ridiculous and chintzy graphic effects that do nothing for gameplay, an array of absurd "sub-games," and, most importantly, a software product that does not seem to get updated/patched.

The game is playable (at least on some versions of Windows), and playing opponents on the internet is perhaps its strongest selling point. However, the release of this product also brought a wave of legal action against existing rogue Boggle-like sites ...The result, unfortunately, probably did more to hurt the Boggle community than help, as most rogue sites, in addition to being free and platform independent, were also responsive to user requests and are now largely shut down.

Hasbro is depending on market-share and market-reach to sell this game. I recommend holding them to a higher standard and not buying the computer version of it.

A Great Buy

Contrary to the previous review of this product, it DOES work with Windows ME. My computer has the ME platform, and Boggle works with it.

Never have I played a ten dollar game that is so addictive. The computer game goes beyond the traditional format we all know and love to include " Boggle Battle", "In Your Face", and several other Boggle games as well as the classic version. Each game has the "classic" and "master" options, the master level being considerably harder than the classic mode.

I would even dare to say that the computer version is better than the plastic cube version because there is no shaking and little sand hourglasses to worry about. Each and every version of Boggle on the CD is very fun, In Your Face being my personal favorite.

My only complaints when it comes to this game is that the animations are horribly choppy, even on my computer, which is a fairly fast machine. I also noted that the built-in dictionary used to accept words that you find neglected to accept some of the most common English words. (I had to manually enter them into the "user dictionary.")

But all in all, Boggle is probably one of the biggest values in the computer game world right now.
