Very good, with a few acceptions

I think Backyard Football 2002 is great. The grafics are good, it is somewhat realistic and it is funny. The one problem is the characters that they put in the game. First, there aren't enough players in the game. I think it should be like Backyard Baseball 2003 where there is at least one player from each team. Another thing is there are too many pro quarterbacks and not enough pro defensive players and wide receivers. What about Charles Woodson, Jerry Rice, Keyshawn Johnson, Terrell Owens maybe (only if your desprate) Randy Moss, Derrick Brooks, Warren Sapp or Ray Lewis? My last complaint is why would you put Cade McNown? I mean, he had one lucky game and then he sucked the rest of his career. I would buy this game without question, if you don't mind a pro player shortage.

More fun than the original

BYF 2002 is a really good game for kids that love football. I have two sons (6 and 4) that enjoy it tremendously.
Seeing the game from this perspective has helped them understand the sport a little better.
Their only complaints are that there are no pro receivers, and some players (Cade McNown) that they don't recognize.
We've had one problem. We have an iMac and lately the game has been shutting down around the third quarter. I don't know if this is a bug or if they have been treating the game a little too rough and it has some scratches.

First of all, I'm 52 years old, not a kid. My brother - in - law, knowing that I am a life-long, born and raised football fan got me this game for Christmas, thinking I would enjoy it, since they have all the NFL teams, (including my Steelers) plus real named players. I wouldn't have gotten this game myself; but I admit it is much more fun than the 99-cent head caoch football game that I got myself years ago. Agree that the Madden games, etc. would probably be more realistic, but I don't think my PC would have handled it. Any way, I do enjoy the game, and I'll have to get the hang of controlling it; like the others, I get sacked a lot, and seem to have trouble passing.

One word of warning. If you are looking for your favorite team players, all you'll get are the team logos and shirts, not the players. Only the players listed on the box are actually in the game. (Licensing, I suppose.) Also some football common sense and savvy is essential, too. Such as use a real quarterback at quarter back. My brother in law played the game himself an had better success than I did, picking and substituting. Like I said I need more practice, and patience reading the rather detailed instruction manual. Be aware of certain rule quirks, like 20-yard first downs, and 5 on 5 play. Sort of takes me back to my youth when we used to play in the alley behind my house. At least they get first downs.

Agree, definitely a lot of laughs and good fun. When my 10-month old son gets a little older, I hope he can appreciate this. Also I'll have to teach him all of the other card, board, and casino, sports, and arcade games games I own.

NOTE: This is the same brother - in - law that got me the real pool game. Not really being a pool player, though I do shoot occasionally and am not very good at it; that too, is a good game and takes a while to get the hang of. I'm more of a cards and coin-op game person.

The plays are much more advanced than the previous version. I was a little disappointed in how they didn't put on the old players. But I was still happy how they put on some new players. They do celebration dances in the end zone that really crack me up!

I'd give this game 5/5 stars because it's not hard, but it's not so easy a baby could win. It's cool because it has kid versions of NFL players. You click were you want to go and click were you want to pass. You choose from plays and if you are doing good they might give you a power up. Some power ups are the sonic boom and the leap frog. Inthe sonic boom, all of the components fall to the ground for around 5 seconds. The leap frog is were you jump 5-7 yards. This game is good because it is a fun and thrilling game. I highly recomend it.

I have not bought this game yet but I have played it at school. Me and my friends loved it. At first it might seem like a little kids game but you need strategy to play this game and that is what makes it fun. The game is perfect for anyone from a beginner like one of my friends who played the game at school to an experienced player like me. I would recomend that you get this game if you can't decide which "Backyard" game to get (and that is coming from a baseball fan).

My son who's nine, loves this game. He can't get enough! I bought the soccor, basketball and the baseball games for christmas. He'll be so thrilled to add to his collection. Every game comes with simple instruction and hours of play time. He likes to pick his own teams.

Lots Of FUN

It's a really really fun game. I got it for Christmas and have enjoyed playing it every since. I have all of the Backyard Series games and this is by far my favorite. I would recommend this strongly to all sports fans. You get to chose your own team and pick your own players. Scoring touchdowns is fun...

This is an ok game but I wouldn't recomend buying it. First of all they have too many players at the same position. For example out of 10 players 6 of them are quarterbacks, 2 are runningbacks, and the final 2 are defensivebacks. Notice they dont have one wide receiver so you end up having Steve Mcnair(a quarterback) as your wide receiver. And second instead of Cade Mcnown as a quarterback maybe try Kurt Warner? How about Marshall Faulk instead of terell davis. But hey its a kids game so what do you exspect? Save your cash to buy Backyard Baseball 2003(comes out 6/11/02) trust me its worth the wait!
