Incomplete....Warning- spoilers here...

This game starts out great: creepy old estate (with lots of remodeling potential), Mysterious clues about the previous occupants, and only a telephone as a connection to the outside world. The problem is that our hero, "Michael" clearly wants to solve the case and make things right before leaving...but, the writers didn't follow through. There are plenty of items in the inventory that could have taken care of the "final discovery." But, no...After all that work, we leave our responsibilities behind and run like a school girl...There are many unanswered questions...If you like wandering around houses and snooping through drawers, this game is a lot of fun...If you like closure, this game will be frustrating. And what's up with Jerry never bringing the candles or the electrician as promised?

I played a lot of adventure games and in the past several years in my view very few titles were any good. Scratches is a well designed game, the story flows well and the finale is great. I would recommend this game to adventure fans. Looking forward to a sequel.

slow and boring

NO activity with another being. You also have to find objects in the correct order(frustrating). My wife and I really tried to like this but it was VERY tedious and slow. As for the gameplay and graphics, you'd think this game was made in the 90's.

I just ordered this game a day ago, along with 'Black Mirror'

I've been reading some reviews here to give me some thought of to how this game will be mostly. I have not received this game yet, but I'm due to receive it in a few days by mail. I can't wait to play this one, and 'Black Mirror'. I have played 'Myst' before, and I have 'Dracula:resurrecton, and the other Dracula game'. I mostly play Battlefield:2 online or IL2:Pacific Fighters or RainbowSix games, and games like FarCry, Deadly Dozen 1 & 2, theres some other games I have to aswell. Anyway, from what I'm reading in here, alot of people have mixed feelings about this game. I sure hope this game turns out to be fun and I'll be back to write another review.

Scratches is one of the best games I have played and definitely the saddest. It cannot be performed without the walkthrough, and here's the cool thing... Even with the walkthrough you still might not be able to get it. For anyone out there who didn't get it, HERE COMES THE SPOILER.
Everything comes down to Robin. Hopefully I've said enough without the causual reader getting told everything (you've been warned), but it is how the mother died, the coverup, why the construction isn't finished, and why the room is bricked up. Read about the tribal god and you'll see what I mean- that's hidden somewhere too. So try it with the walkthrough and Still experience a great narrative- and still a bit of gameplay in figuring out the ending. Having an extensive background in Lovecraft anf Fulci never hurts either...

Best of the genre

I've been playing this style of game since the days of "ADVENTUR" when computers could only handle eight-character names. This is the best of the breed because it has an engaging story, good graphics and certain surprises that will send chills up your spine (literally). The puzzles are reasonable in that none require you to find just the right pixel at just the right time nor do they require some odd combination of activities to take place. All the puzzle solutions can be logically deduced by studying the game elements. Unlike many similar games, pay attention to the plot; it's quite good.

Interesting.

I thought it was fun. I loved the scenario! It's a place to write a book, no doubt about it! But I got really scared with everything happening around it! I jumped so many times. The story has a very interesting end and the puzzles are not difficult if you really pay attention. There's a lot to do and the mistery keep you busy all the time. I like games with a good story even odd ones. I liked this one. Hope you enjoy it too.

Scratches a bit disappointing

I actually did enjoy this game overall. However, I found the scene changes to be very slow and quite a few times my computer froze up. So I saved the game a lot more than I normally would. Maybe it was just my computer. The game was suspenseful and the music was eerie. I almost jumped out of my chair on two occasions. The puzzles weren't ridiculously difficult and I only used hints for a couple. The puzzle for opening the box in the desk was a little outrageous, but most of the others were reasonable.

I must say that the ending of the game was very disappointing. It was quite abrupt in my opinion and left so many questions unanswered. Maybe the writers left it this was in order to create a sequel. If so, I would be interested in playing. Although this wasn't the worse game I have ever played, it wasn't the best.

Needed a lot of help

I'm still pretty new to these types of games, so I'm sure that someone that is used to them probably didn't have the same problem as me, but it seemed like I had to use a walkthrough an awful lot.
The story is pretty interesting and weird. The graphics are nice looking, and there are times that you get chills on the back of your neck.

My first adventure game to play

I had never even heard of adventure games till I ran across this game and thought it sounded very interesting. I absolutely loved it and I shared it with my sister and I wish more games were made as well as this one. One of my all time favorites along with The Lost Crowne. I highly recommend it. Once you install it you do not need to have the disc in to play. So many games you have to play the CD shuffle that it gets a little annoying. If your new to adventure games, you gotta try this one. Easy navigation. Awesome sound effects. Creepy atmosphere.
