I bought the original Airline Tycoon and was very happy with it. Airline Tycoon Evolution is very little bang for your buck, I'm afraid. There is an added componet to the game- an airplane model builder. It is fairly unimaginative and on my edition and those of 2 other people I have spoken to, the game will often crash. It is not a faulty driver, I have a Pentium 4 with the lastedt Nvidia graphics card installed. There is also a fault where after 30 days of Free Game play, you are required to enter a password, something like Paragraph 4, line 2, word 3 on page 19 of your manual. Unfortunatley, you have to contact the studio who are promising a patch to be downloaded from their sitr. VERY FRUSTRATING. Other than that there is very little difference between this edition and the original. Stay with the original because it looks like one junior programmer spent all of an hour making this one. It [is bad].
Stick with the original

When I first bought this game I was looking for a replacement for the one my niece destroyed. It is the most annoying games that anyone could think of. The programming could have been done better by a 3 year old, as the game is full of errors and, if like me, your computer is not on the internet and you have to use another computer for the internet, the game is completely useless.

This game, while including some very nice expansions on the original Airline Tycoon, had some major bugs in it.
For starters, parts of the text in the game were in German. Particularly the news-stand articles. Also, part of the airport announcements were done in German, and English. The copy of the game I had was supposed to be the US release version, so there should have been 0 German text to begin with.
Furthermore, the planes that the player could build weren't painted in the livery of the player's airline. They were left in unpainted metal. Furthermore, the design elements were limited, and some not very attractive. It gave the aircraft a cartoonish look.
Overall, I'm disappointed with Airline Tycoon: Evolution. If you ask me, it was more of a De-evolution.
Good game, but, moody,

This game is fun, for the most part. Its moody at times, its a bit slow, get the patches, maybe update your drivers also, turn the midi off from the game in options. The midi seems to slow it, or, it drags.
If not for it being moody, it would get 4 stars. It is addicting when working right.
The art is a bit cartoon, I can't tell what direction they were thinking, its still fun.
Some people have no problems with it, I guess it depends on your computer.
Its $10 right now, why not treat yourself, if it doesnt work, it was not real expensive. It very well could work, and hours of fun when you'r relaxing.
Buy it,

First off, if you are looking for a sequel to the orginal Airline Tycoon, you are looking at the wrong game. This is more like an addition, or "deluxe pack". There are only two addtional features in this game that were not included in the original.
You now have a security office where you can pay to secure your office, aircraft and laptop. In my experiences though, they don't do a very good job of protecting my office.
The other addition is the aircraft creation center. I enjoy this part of the game. I can go in there and design all sorts of aircraft to fit my needs...although I may not have the money to buy them at the time (unless I use the cheats). You can also download other peoples designs from the internet and upload your designs as well.
All the cheats and puzzles to the game are the *exact* same as the original game. This is why I do not consider it a sequel.
The graphics are the exact same. The same for the sounds.
Overall, this game is a good one to play. If you own the original, I would not suggest you buy this unless you are really wanting to design the planes. If you do not own the original then I suggest you buy this over the original.
Also, I run this just fine on Windows XP, Athlon 600 MHz, 128 MB RAM, Riva TNT 16 MB System. Above it does not list this program to be compatible with XP, but the side of the box lists Windows (TM) 98/Me/2000/XP
Hope this helps you all out there...
One Of The Longest & Most Fun Tycoons I've played

I'm a huge fan of the tycoon genre and am constantly on the search for that perfect tycoon that can make me game mad to the point where I stay up all night. I am happy to report that airline tycoon evolution is that sort of game, where fun and challenge are balanced and the player benefits.
Airline Tycoon Evolution has two main modes of play - campaigns and free game. There are 3 campaigns, which are made up of 10 sub parts, and let me tell you, they take forever. Some are quite challenging, and mission objectives change drastically from campaign to campaign. 2 of the campaigns are from the 1999 version Airline Tycoon First Class, while Airline Tycoon Evolution adds a whole new dimension with the ability to finally create your own planes!
Be sure to note the name is Airline Tycoon, and not Airport Tycoon. Airport Tycoon is a completely different game where you build airports (like the Sims) whereas Airline Tycoon is a game where you are in charge of one of four airlines (with the appropriate character) and you charter flights, book routes, buy/sell planes, deliver freights, deliver relief aid, build spaceships and more all depending on the mission. Booking the flights is more fun than it sounds, as it's all about time management and picking the right offers. You have the ability to hire personnel for your planes, as well as mentors such as staff and fitness advisors.
You get free roam of the graphically colourful airport during your efforts, running from workshop to travel agents to plane dealers (for some reason you can only give them limited instructions on the phone). Lots of cute figures fill your airport, but you also are given the option to turn them off, along with flights etc.
A real nice addition is the rpg/adventure aspect of the game - you use your character to make friends with business rivals and cooperate (keep your friends close and your enemies closer). There are also numerous items and "side quests" (some of which are quite difficult to solve). Some of the items are useless, while some can help you compete in another aspect of the game - sabotage. Bombs, poisoned food, glue - expect this and more to be used against you if you get too far ahead your competitors. Especially if they don't like you. The ability to sabotage is a side quest.
This is a fun tycoon, but don't expect to be able to set up furniture or other Sims like things. It is very heavy on the business side, but also is an educational peek into flying, technical equipment, and planes.
If you liked Casino Inc, Restaurant Empire,
GRAPHICS: 7 - cute and colourful, but nothing wowing
SOUND: 7 - decent sounds and the voices are quite realistic
GAMEPLAY: 8 - a bit of a learning curve, but they try to introduce a lot of the more complicated aspects slowly, and the advisors sure help out. Be prepared for some challenges though.
PLAY VALUE: 10 - This tycoon is a dinosaur in terms of life and power. I keep going back to it.
FUN: 10 - If you love tycoons, be prepared to have lots of fun
TILT: 10
FINAL: 8.6 = about 4.3 on Amazon - ugh why can't we give half stars? Rounded off to 4 stars.
Good, but it can be better.

This is a good game. I think this is a good game because on the first Airline Tycoon you didn't have security. Now you have security so you can protect your airline, your gate, and your office. And also there is a plane biulder so you can build your own plane. I would strongly recomend this game.

Hi, I absolutely love this game. But 30 days (game time) into it it tells me that I need to check the printed manual for a certain page, paragraph, word but the word I enter never seems 2 be right. Then it quits and tells me the 30 day trial version is over and I have to start the game over. Does anyone else have these problems? If so, email sunspungirl@hotmail.com

The game is absolutly amazing and it costs only few dollars. It worths every penny you spend !
You are a manager of an airline and you must beat your 3 opponents on the market. Great feature is you can project your dream plane from 0 to 100%. Nothing seen before.
The game-graphic is like a cartoon and I think this is a plus on this game.
Buy it, buy it, buy it...and if you are not sure on what to do, I tell you again to buy it.
From a 25 years old kid.
