This is by far the best baseball game I have ever played. You wont find yourself hitting tons of homers in every game like Triple Play, its much more realistic. The game doesnt keep track of as many stats as High Heat, but has just about every one I pay attention to. If you are just looking for an a game with great graphics I suggest World Series Baseball, but if you are looking for great gameplay this is the game for you.

Pretty darn good

Just bought the game yesterday. I'm very happy with the graphics quality. Busch Stadium looks so real. The players look real too. Especially great game ... I would like to try World Series bball but until I can get one ..., this will do.

Pitching is not very good, starting pitchers usually last no more than 5 innings, relief only goes 1 sometimes two innings. batting is excellent.

This was the baseball game I was looking for

After being an Amazon.com customer for 4 or 5 years I had not written a review until the X-box baseball game debacle. This game is a good solid game. Lots of stats, game commentary is solid, plays realistically. The game is challenging for longtime players (and I've been playing video games since the '80's) but at the same time it can be simplified for the novice. (Game speed can be adjusted, so don't think the game will take 1 1/2 hours to play each time, like some reviews have said).

I would never give any video game a five star rating so obviously my four star rating is that I think this is the best baseball game for the X-box. For simplicity maybe the Triple Play game is better. The majority of poor reviews for All Star Baseball seem to be from people who don't appreciate that baseball is a 162 game season. You don't beat this game overnight. It challenges you and makes you practice (in different modes) to get better. The scoring is more realistic than any baseball game I've played (big plus).

The Triple Play game does seem to have a good 2 player game and is a lot easier to hit a lot of homeruns and pitch well (use the corners and throw a lot of high two stike pitches). Check my listing for an almost brand new one that I'm selling on the auction page and save some money if you're looking for that.

Flied Out

Decent for a first generation game. I haven't played Triple Play, but not impressed with the graphics or play of the game. I was a huge fan of the ASB titles on other systems, but they have destroyed what was a great game.

Big Cons:
- Fielder Control
- Way too many errors (Rusty Grier had 5 in three innings one game)
- Batting control
- No such thing as mid relief (Starting pitchers might last up to six innings if you get a lot of pop flies, relief pitchers won't last past one inning)

Cons:
- Overuse of broken bats
- Some players (Derek Jeter, A-Rod, Bonds) are way too good, can hit a homer with Jeter almost everytime you try
- When pitchers tire, they don't loose any movement on their sliders, curves, etc. and don't loose any heat off their fast balls, they just looks placement control

Pros
+ Stat keeping (but thats sort of a given on the Xbox isn't it?)
+ Franchise and expansion mode
+ Graphics are better than the old systems, but not really using the full power of the Xbox
+ Commentary isn't too repetitive
+ Can't go out and win every game (but only because you can't keep the computer from scoring on your relief pitchers and can't stop making errors)

How do I feel about this game? Lets see the feilding controls are terrible. It takes 5 minutes for a player to pull the ball out of his glove and throw it. Needless to say even if the batter hits a grounder directly to the short stop, you can forget about the double play. The screen shots I saw before I bought the game looked great, but once I got it home I was extremly disappointed. The creators of "Pong" used more of their system's potential. The teams rosters also seem to have problems. For instance individuals who played starting positions last season and who play the same position this season, miracoulously have vanished. Forget "where have you gone Joe Dimagio" I want to know where Frankie Menchino and Cory Lidle are!?! Also pitchers in this game have absolutly no stamina. Your lucky to get 6 innings out of a starter and 1 out of a reliever. Futher more any baseball game that ejects an A's pitcher for throwing at Jason Giambi should seriously rethink their selling points. I do like the bull pen control thou. The pitchers delieveries are also realistic, from Andy Pettit's "no I didn't balk" to Chad Bradford's submarine style (it even has a Catfish Hunter delievery for created players). This game also has a great farm system. But in the end, the only real reason why I gave this game two stars was because it features Stomper, the A's loveable mascot and the only redeeming feature of this game.

Triple Play Baseball is much better

I purchased All star Baseball 2003 and thought the graphics were really outstanding. It is probably the best in depth baseball game ever made. However, the game play itself is not user friendly. The batting cursor is very difficult to maneuver. You only have a fraction of a second to line the cursor up so you have a chance to hit the ball. This ruins the game for me. I took it back and exchanged it for triple play baseball. Now triple play is not as in depth but it has pretty good graphics too and the gameplay itself is much much much more user friendly.
Some reviews for triple play say that it is to easy to hit home runs and I would have to agree that it is but all you have to do is increase the level of difficulty to all star. On all star you would be lucky to hit more then one or two home runs per 9 inning game. All star baseball is a fascinating game but if you just want to play ball then Triple Play is the game to get.

this game is weak

Alright, the graphics are cool so that alone the game gets four stars but here is the problem. I like to keep my season as real as possible by keeping up with the majors but how can you do that when youre in a real season and the computer just trades who ever they want so that alone I would never play this game.
If anyone has any idea how to take the random trades off please help me thanks.

A pretty good game
