More puzzle/adventure than action

I'm the mom in the family and I bought this primarily for my Harry-crazy kids, but I've played through it myself and enjoy it quite a bit. I think it will appeal to casual gamers like me who like to think through situations. For example, you level-up in power by collecting points throughout Hogwarts. My kids didn't notice that the beds in the dormitories and the hospital wings all needed to be made. Poof! 200 points right there for tidying up. All the torches throughout the castle need to be lit, and there are clever nods to the previous books (hint: you can open the Chamber of Secrets in Myrtle's bathroom). When the story line is complete, you can enter "endless day" mode and try to figure out the hidden points you haven't discovered yet. Some are quite challenging.

I recommend this, along with "Endless Ocean" to those parents out there who bought a Wii system primarily for their kids and want to enjoy it without a lot of frenzied shot-em-up action.

Wingardium Leviosa: The Game

That's what they should have titled this game, because that's practically all you do--float things around, with a few brief duels thrown in. Oh, and a lot of wandering back and forth to different parts of Hogwarts, looking for people.

I was very disappointed in the last game (Goblet of Fire) but had high hopes for this one, especially with the Wii. And while it is a fun novelty to use the remote like a wand, and the graphics are great, the game itself is a bore. I would also say it's too short, but I won't because given how dull it is, short is a blessing.

There's no running, no jumping, no puzzling out what you're supposed to do. Now that the game designers have showed off what wonderful graphics they can do and what fun it is to use wand movements, maybe they can turn their talents to actually creating an enjoyable game next time.

OKY game

Harry Potter for the nintendo wii is a pretty good game except for a few things. Anyway lts just get to the game play. In this game the gameplay is oky in this game but it could be better. First of all to cast a spell in Harry Potter on the Wii you have to move your wand a certin way or else it won't work. This is annoying becase if you are in the middle of a battle it could take you a long time to hit you enemy because you can't cast a spell corectly. The good thing about this game is that it is more realistic. what I mean by that is you get to actually wave your wand instead of just sitting on you butt using a playstaion controler. Also the game is fun at the begining but after you beat it it really gets boring because there is nothing to do.
The graphics in this game are about as good as the PS3 except malfoys face looks like a peice of crap.
The sound is also really good in this game to.
Overall I give this game a three out of fiv because its an oky game but its not the best Harry potter game.

Not the greatest...but still cool!

Of course when this game first came out I thought it would be the greatest thing in the world being able to use the wiimote to cast spells such as the famous swish and flick (wingardiumleviosa). Well, turns out your just tilt the wiimote and nunchuck upwards, :).

The basic premesis of this game is you use the nunchuck to guide Harry around Hogwarts (obnoxiously followed by Ron and Hermione EVERYWHERE) and complete little tasks assigned to you. One of the more major ones is trying to get everybody from the DA in the Room of Requierement which requires you to find everybody on your map and do things for them so that they agree to go.

You also do little things around the school like find secret passages to shorten your trips from place to place (it REALLY helps), play wizard chess and marbles, put paintings back in place, fix statues, find animal prints, etc. all to get magical points to increace the power of your spells and various other bonuses.

The spells are like I said, the simple motion of the wiimote and/or nunchuck such as a circular motion, a tilt, a shake side to side, etc. It IS pretty cool though because it's certainly more realistic than pressing the 'A' button a controller.

This game is probably better for younger kids who like Harry Potter and like the idea of magic or scavenger hunts. It's definitely not something for a hard core gamer or an obsessive Harry Potter fan, because you WILL be dissapointed.

Overall, the cons are that the spells are a bit difficult sometimes, especially wingardiumleviosa because you have to tilt the nunchukc and wiimote together so that it works on screen and it can be difficult. Also, when you want to go somewhere on the map, you have to click on that place and then little footsteps on the floor will lead you around. This can be a bit difficult to follow because they don't appear consistently and sometimes you can't tell which way they're facing. Also, you actually have to walk from one end of the castle to the other which could take up to a minute or two in the real world, which is honestly kind of annoying.

Anyways, the real reason I personally like the game, is because I get a feeling of accomplishment when I complete like a list of tasks, and that's basically what this game is. A list of people to see shows up on the Maurauder's Map and you go to them and do stuff and blah blah blah and it gets off your list.

Fun game for hard core Harry Potter fans.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is a very enjoyable.

Pros: You get to play as characters such as Dumbledore, Sirius, Harry and fight characters such as Voldemort, Belatrix, and Malfoy. The storyline follows the book very well and you can visit places such as Hogwarts, Number 12 Grimmuald Place, The Ministry of Magic, and Number 4 Private Drive.

Cons: You have to wander around Howarts alot and it can get boring.

Overall, if you don't mind exploring Hogwarts it is a fun game.

Hogwarts Revealed!!

This game is hard for me to review because some elements I love and others I think are sloppy and things I'd rather avoid at all costs. Still, I can't stop playing this game and having fun and I think most any Harry Potter fan will too.

For the first time we can walk all around Hogwarts and explore it's every nook and cranny. That's a huge plus for me as walking around the castle and discovering new things and talking to students really makes the place come alive. I feel like I'm actually there. Thankfully, the castle is jam packed with secrets to uncover to encourage further wandering.

Waving the Wii Remote to perform spells is simple and something I think gamers of all ages can master rather quickly. For example to cast Reparo (to repair broken items) you simply wave your controller in a circular motion. The control scheme further draws gamers into the world and brings it to life. I even found myself saying the spells aloud as I cast them which was quite amusing. Wingardium Leviosa gave me the most headaches as it took time to maneuver items I had levitated.

My problems with the game are mainly mechanical. Ron and Hermonie follow you everywhere and constantly got in my way. To add insult to injury, they constantly remind you to head off to your next task in the story line but with the focus on exploring their constant reminders get very annoying in short order. The story scenes are ok, but they only make the sketchiest effort at representing the story. The game would have been much better without story at all. Also there are a few very difficult mini-games that you have to beat three times in order to get a 100% score in the game. I think mini games should be optional, not required.

The tasks you are given to perform are mostly collecting items but they remain mostly satisfying. I would have liked to see more varied tasks. Some interesting puzzles would have been great. All considered though, this Harry Potter game is the best of the bunch. It could have been much better with just a bit more thought and effort but there's no doubt it will bring many hours of enjoyment to Harry Potter fans.

Amazing castle, but overall terrible game

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix for the Wii is, in my opinion, a very bad game. The bad parts of this game are that the view is annoying and random, it skips over major parts of the story, teleports you at random points (for example I was in Occlumency class and then less than a second later without any explanation in the Order of the Phoenix headquarters at Christmas), has hardly any action, no puzzles, and is made up mostly of running around Hogwarts collecting students for this or that. The students who you are supposed to collect can never come with you until you do some stupid task for them. The good parts are that the Wii motions usually work and when they do work it feels a lot like you are actually holding a wand, the graphics are amazing for the Wii, and Hogwarts is gigantic and thoroughly detailed. All of those pros have a bad side to them though. When the Wii motions don't work it is really annoying, the graphics are only good from far away (when you look at close-ups things look really weird), and because Hogwarts is so big it makes the tasks insanely hard because you often need to go across the whole entire building looking for things or just getting something across the building. There's good music, but for some reason it usually isn't playing. Every word is voice-acted, which is a good thing, but there's so much unneeded and random talking in the game that the voices get really annoying. There are a bunch of unlockables, but no real reason to get them. You get videos and stuff when you find enough hidden stuff, but they're sort of boring.

Overall the only really good thing in this game is the amazing recreation of Hogwarts. If the price goes down somewhere around 5$ this game might be worth thinking about just so you can explore Hogwarts, but at any other price it just isn't worth it.

Only one kid can play at a time

My boys LOVE this game. The wand action is a lot of fun for them, and the booklet is clear in the spell explanations.

My complaint - only ONE kid can play. It would be A LOT more fun if two or three kids could play Harry and his friends...just like the movie.

I am a huge harry potter fan, yet this game is the worst game I have ever played in my entire life.
Graphics: Of course because it's on the wii the graphics are worse than the other systems and made me wish that I had bought the 360 version.
Gameplay: Horrible, absolutely horrible, you don't have control after you cast the spells, targeting the item you want to cast a spell on is impossible because the targeting system auto-locks on the first thing it sees and wont let you choose something else unless if you turn away and look somewhere completely different than where your target is.
Camera: The camera was made by a druggie with no programming experience. It is unmovable, and only goes at the angle it's supposed to be about 20% of the time. Moving on stairs is hard, casting spells is hard, and some times during conversations all you see is the gray from instead of the person you are talking to's head.
Overall: This game will make you hate Harry Potter.

Not user friendly!

I bought this for my 10 year old grandson who plays a lot on the WII and is a Harry Potter fan.....He was easily distracted and changed to something else rather quickly. This may be OK for an older player but I tried it and didn't like it either!
