Extremely Difficult

This game is like work!! There are soo many techniques to learn that it killed it for me. I just want to play a game and have fun....not spend hours reading a lengthy manual and practicing moves. I was hoping for something just a little more complex then the Wii Sports baseball. But I think I will stick to that from now on. If you have the time and the patience and the skills, though, I bet it would be a pretty neat game.

A lot of fun...but hard

This game is a lot of fun, but there is a steep learning curve. It is a new way of playing baseball and using both controllers and learning all of the controls is not an easy task. However, with that said it is a lot of fun and a great challenge. Games shouldn't be too easy.

If you are looking for a MLB title for the Wii you won't be disappointed with this one.

A great arcade style baseball game!

If you have ever played MLB Slugfest for example, it plays like that. Its not for people who like Baseball sims but it does have 70 percent realism so it doesn't feel to arcady if you will. The graphics are bad, even for a Wii title, I just hope no one avoids this game because of the graphics. Gameplay is great, It has good fielding controls, bating is fun and so is pitching. They addded a special bar that once you get to (I think it was) 10000 points you can either have an "auto" Homerun hit (thats if you hit it ;D) or a Special Pitching mode where most of your pitches go faster. The only problem I found with this game is the swing lag is about .4 seconds so remember to swing a tad early, you'll get use to it 30 mins tops. Overall, this is a great baseball game for the Wii if you didn't like Wii Sports version of Baseball (like me)

Takes a while to get - but then fun

This isn't one of the games that you pick up and just go with, you do need to spend some time reading the instructions and practicing. I haven't tried to play the computer yet, because most the time we easily have 2 or more playing. For two people, I think this game is a blast once you get the hang of it. The graphics, sounds and commentators are all very good. The way that you control your players seems to be very much in your remote and numchuck and you seem to really have control both offensively and defensively. We were really excited when we found this game because we are huge baseball fans, and so far it seems to be right up there with Tiger Woods as our favorite game we have played so far.

Great game!

[...] this is a great game! It is technical and it takes a while to get everything down but once you do it's a blast. The pitches are more realistic than those in Wii Sports and you have less reaction time but I really don't notice any lag that the others have spoken of. If you want a challenging game that does not lose its luster after a few hours, buy The Bigs! If not, stick to Wii Sports.

Very frustrating

If you thought this game was going to have the same control scheme as wii sports baseball you will be disapointed the batting is more like wii sports tennis and it is extremely difficult to pitch field and bat it is truly a workout it makes my arms sore i actually traded this game in the next day I highly recommend renting this game 1st before purchasing this game.

Not fun to play

This is one of the most irritating video baseball games I have ever seen. The controls are so complicated to learn and use that the game is just not fun to play. The only reason I can think of that so many people gave this game good reviews is that they played the game on other platforms where the controls were much simpler. The writers of the Wii version of this game got so carried away with the new stuff they can do that they forgot to actually play the game to see if it was fun. Well, I can tell them now to not waste their time. This game is not fun. If this were the only Wii game there was, the Wii wouldn't have sold 5 copies. Fortunately, it's not.

lacks a few things..but fun... Where's Bonds? as if anyone cares.

well..my first game i gave up on after i was behind 30-0 in the 2nd inning. I couldn't react quick enough to field the ball. Then when I stopped throwing junk balls down the middle..I didn't have to worry about fielding so much. The dumbest part of this game is the hitting. I like to swing w/ two hands...you can do that in the hr derby..but in game play I had to hold both the wiimote and nunchuck together one on top of the other..this did not feel natural at all..sometimes I'd whip myself with the wire, othertimes i'd accidently steal a base because my hand would hit the joystick. It's hard to advance bases because you have to direct everyone ..and sometimes I get that mixed up..After a few games I found myself striking almost everyone out (in easy mode) and winning the game with my power boost which you can get towards the end..it's pretty much an automatic homerun. Julio Franco is hitting 3 for 3 with 3 pinch hit walk off homeruns for me. I had fun winding up to pitch. But I do agree..it doesn't always respond to your motion and you have to wave your arm a few times to throw a pitch. It's a fun game but lacks options such as stats, and a season mode. And each team only has 3 starters. Where's Barry Bonds? they left him off the Giants roster! Did he not want to participate? Or perhaps Nintendo thought he isn't a very good role model..If you're tired of wii sports baseball, I would suggest this game because I don't know how long it will be before they make a new one.

I purchased The Bigs for the Wii console and have been very satisfied with it overall. The pitching is accurate and varied, the batting is good and allows more skill than Wii sports baseball by letting you shape where you want your shot to go. The two handed play style can seem daunting, but is actually a blast, allowing strike em out-throw em out plays, nasty double plays, and good first jumps by infielders on ground balls. With regards to controls, I felt the learning curve to be slight. Myself, my little brother, and even his girlfriend were throwing 100 mph heat or smacking extra base hits around after about an hour (those complaining about the manual...you did see the "learn the bigs" mode, right?)

pros:
-rookie mode is varied and fun.
-two handed play is engaging and gets to be intuitive.
-pitching and batting more nuanced than Wii sports.
-big plays can look cool and make you feel like a stud.

cons:
-throwing to bases with a flick of the wrist is hit or miss (mostly miss.) The D pad doubles up this function though, so not a deal breaker.
-being able to hit home runs at will with a full meter, or snag regular home runs off the wall (30 feet up) gets to be cheap.
-mini games don't have their own mode (need to accessed through rookie mode or through Learn the Bigs...again, not a deal breaker, but could have been nice to have a category like Madden NFL.

neutral:
-music is good, but not varied.
-commentary is funny, but not varied.
-graphics are fairly solid, some players got mugged though in translation.

Overall: Good game, definitely satisfies the long ball seekers, could use a touch more variety in next iteration and some work on fielding to bases. If you want a solid sports title, this game satisfies.
