I won't go into reviewing this game very long so I'll make it short. This games graphics suck! I have scene better graphics then this and this is from the PC I mean c'mon! The graphics are terrible compared to the PC.

I hated how bad the frame rate was and everything about the graphics were really really bad.

The violence in this game are hardcore but the pc Version is better mainly cause of the graphics.

I'm so glad I returned this I just couldn't handle the bad controls and graphics. I mean I donno I just did NOT like the game compared to the PC version which is better.

In short...Get the pc version

It's graphic violance is about all this game has going for it. The graphics are poor, the scenary doesn't change much, and you get bored fast. This is diffenetly down at the lower end of combat games on the market for PS2.

I own it, and have played the PC version

I checked up on this game and saw that a few people gave it a bad review. First of all, only a few people gave it a bad review, not enough to be a deciding factor. Secondly, they say it's "overhyped". I haven't seen much hype about this game, I mean it isn't like the overhyped "Devil May Cry" (which I own also and do enjoy, but it is way overhyped). This game is great, I had it on dreamcast and PC and I think it is just as good if not better than either other version. The graphics are beyond great, the backgrounds are good and the weapon effects are flawless. No other game has close to the realism and feel of "Soldier of Fortune". The weapons are great and creative. The weapons all have different affects on the people and the environments. I think telling someone not to get this game is cruel. Games have a funny way of being loved by some, despised by others (eg Silent Hill 2, one of my favorites). I would encourage anyone interrested to try it at least and not take the reviews too seriously since feelings on this game are so diverse. Everyone I know loves this game.

This game is bad

Please spend your money on another game. The regular game play is too fast and jumpy. However the multiplayer, which is very popular these days, is awful. Even during a 2 player match the game slows down and lags, I cannot imagine what playing with 4 players is like.

Purile nonsense.

This is strictly for teenage gore fans and nazis only. It's supposed to depict the effects of various types of
gunfire on human bodies as realitically as possible - nothing could be further from the truth.

In reality, you will be laughing at the way your enemies' limbs appear to dettach so easily from their bodies and the way that your shots
don't quite match the wounds that appear.

And then there's the problem that the bodies melt away into nothing five seconds later. This is unusual for a PC game but will doubtless be
the same for the PS2 with its limited memory resources.

The worst part of it all is the racist plot set in locations such as Russia, Iraq among others. All your so-called enemies simply run towards
you firing in a lemming-like fashion.

It also "stars" John Mullins, who is supposed to be a real life mercenary, but is quite clearly a self-styled macho egoist. Methinks he does
protest too much perhaps?

Like the magazine of the same name, this will only really appeal to teenage boys and adult neo-nazis gun freaks who have problems
asserting their masculinity.

Not that good

i'm hardly used to the ps2 controls, so this was tough for me. i like the pc version better, but like one guy said, it lacks the ai and strategy. if you like kill frenzies get this. if you like kill frenzies + puzzles get half-life, which RuLeS!

ps: don't forget to turn the gore down in front of your parents. :)

lots of gore, lots of fun, but some hang ups

If you've heard of Soldier of Fortune, then like most people you probably heard of it's notorious reputation. At the time it was released, Soldier of Fortune was arguabley the most graphic, violent game on the market. While it lacked any vulgarity, the realistic depiction of gore really pushed the envelope - it even got condemned as "pornography" (due to violence, not nudity) by the canadian government.

This is how I first became curious about the game, and my first time playing it, I was pretty shocked - in a pleasant way. The game uses technology called the "ghoul engine", which drives the games graphical gore fest. This system allows, for all sorts of realistic damage to be done to objects and characters in the game. Nasty looking bullet holes, complete with powder burns, apear where you shoot a bad guy. Blood is plentiful in the game. And of course shoot someone enough times at a joint (or with a high caliber weapon) and you will dismember them. This is actually pretty fun, though somewhat disturbing. Shooting someone in the stomache with a shotgun will even cause intestines to spill out, and shooting someone in the face causes a REALLY nasty mess.

While the over the top gore, is the main "feature" of the game, but otherwise the graphics look pretty good considering the year the game was made. Nothing too spectacular, but based on the quake 2 engine the game looks pretty good. Aside from dead bodies with missing legs and pieces of shattered bone potruding froom the stumps, the game has lots of other little graphical details. Bullet holes are different sizes for different weapons, and are different based on the type of surface you fire at. Sound too is pretty good, and bullets hitting metal, not only made nice looking bullet holes, but also sound pretty intense.

Besides these features the game is a little lacking in plot, but then again, that's probably not why you're playing this game. The gameplay is a heck of a lot of fun, and as long as you're old enough to handle it, the gore is just a nice little commodity. The problem is the game doesnt feel very "serious" although it tries to. The story gets pretty stupid towards the end, as the end of the game is a "boss fight" with a bad guy who looks like a reject from the GI Joe cartoons.

Also the realism found in the graphics is no where in the rest of the game. The selection of weapons is lacking, and the weapons are FAKE made up weapons, that are only LOOSELY based on real military arms at best. Some of the late game weapons are just plain stupid. They would have been better of staying with a gritty military persona for the game.

The gameplay is good, and if you want to see lots of blood and guts you'll love this game. But you may be disapointed that the rest of the game lacks character and realism.

This game is not for the weak at heart. The graphics are awesome and the storyline is hardcore. Just make sure you adjust the mayhem/gore section down to tame before you let your little brother play it!!!

I like the Shotgun and 44 Magnum the most. But the supressed 9mm is the bomb for stealth. Go get'em!!
