I'm a little bit of a fan of the River King series and for $20 I couldn't pass on this game. If you haven't played a River King game then what you're in for is a hybrid of fishing and RPG gameplay or to be more specific if you've played a Harvest Moon game replace the farming for fishing. The game doesn't have a whole lot of story or direction, you're basically thrown in to the world, you fish, gain levels, get better stuff, and do an occassional side quest to move on like winning a fishing tournament or catching a specific fish for somebody. Fishing is impossible to screw up, it comes down more or less to having the proper equipment in the proper location more so than any skill being a factor. You would almost have to try to not catch a fish. The game feels very sterile, everything is very quiet and serene and the graphics are very minimal so it tends to have me yawning before too long. There's over 100 fish to catch and several different areas to fish in that are all geographically defined ie. stream, river, lake... If they had implemented some more solid progression in this game it would have been much more fun but as it is makes it good only to pick up every now and then.
Probably a pass for most people but if you dig Harvest Moon or previous River King titles then the game is cheap enough to make it worth it.
