I bought this game for my 11 year old daughter. She'd played it at her friend's house, and loved it. It is charming! Everyone in out family loves it. No overly annoying music, and no fast moving or realistic graphics. This is a great game in which you are a farmer, you must buy farm animals and supplies, court and wed a wife, raise a family, etc. No blood, no gore. Great for families with old fashioned values.
Not everyone will like this game because it is NOT flashy or loud or violent, BUT MY FAMLIY LOVES IT!!!

When I heard about the SE edition getting ready to be released, I loved some of the new features mentioned. Your child could be either a boy or a girl and you could continue playing after the main story mode.
With features I wanted from the GC original, I decided to trade in my GC version for this one.
I was horrified by the color and textures in this game. What was done so beautifully on the gamecube is blocky, far too bright in some places and far too dark in others. The character moves very slow in some spots, particularly where rendering for other things/objects is needed and insanely fast in open areas, such as the beachside.
Likewise, there is a delay in ALL movements with the main character. Jump a fence? 2-3 second delay before you can begin moving again. Pull something out of your backpack? Another delay. Put something IN your backpack? Another delay. Basically what it amounts to is you spend more of your gameplay waiting to be able to MOVE or do anything else than actually play.
Now, to be a little more professional in this, allow me to say that there is no excuse for these problems.
Not only was the PS2 version delayed several times before initial release but, despite the fact that the GC may be more advanced than the PS2 now, this should make no difference. When a game is ported from one system to another, it should be common sense that you can't just rip the game off the other system and slap it verbatim onto another one. Systems do not render music, sound or texture in the same way. Thus ALL ports require a bit of tinkering and retooling to have them work from one system to another.
Do /not/ buy this game. If you have a PS2 only and want a Harvest Moon game, buy Back to Nature. Or heck, even Save the Homeland. All this game will do is cause you to be vaguely angry over speed issues, texture and color issues.

If you already have the Gamecube version of this game, I think you shouldn't get this game, because the only difference is the fact that you can get a baby girl, and a few mess ups have been corrected. Don't let the title fool ya, it should be named: Harvest Moon: A Wonderful life for PS2 (with a few changes).
This is ok though.
Pros:
This makes everything cheaper for those people that want this game, but only have a PS2.
You can now have a baby girl (that I may say is kind of mean) and marry Lumina.
A few glitches were fixed.
Cons
Ummmmmm....
nothing.
I hope you have fun with your new game.
PS read other reviews on other questions, I just talked about the changes.

Harvest Moon - A Wonderful Life- Special Edition, is a wonderful game that allows children to have fun while learning some of lifes important lessons.
In this game your child will become a young farmer who must make his farm a success. There are animals to feed and take care of, cows to milk, chickens who lay eggs, a dog that you'll need to train and feed, and crops to plant and harvest.
The game also allows for social interaction between your childs character and several other people who live in Forget-me-not Valley.
I recommend this game to anyone with children who might enjoy this type of game, it isn't fast paced with too much going on to keep the child focused on their task at hand.

I've started playing this game for a while and I have noticed it is a bit slow. Most people will tell you not to buy the game but you really should its still a great game the only reason I could think of not buying is unless the slow running and the loading screen extremely bother you. What comments I've heard from other people is that at first the game speed bothered them but they got used to it. All the new features in the game are awesome and its a great game to play ^^!
Disappointed at Christmas

I was so happy to get this game for Christmas. I have played countless Harvest Moons on countless systems (yes SNES I'm looking at you), and well I was very unhappy with this version. The coding within the game is awful. There is a ton of clipping (one image cutting into another) and many awkward movements. I watched my cow float across the pasture without every moving a leg. Worst of all was the slow movement, it was a chore to do anything (even chores!). I raged everytime my little guy struggled to shove something into his knapsack. The contols were boggy, and having a loading screen for entering ANY BUILDING is unacceptable. I was so, so disappointed with this game. I wanted to like it...I love this genre...but I can't bring myself to like this game, even a little. No fun!
What were they thinking?

Okay, I bought this game brand new, not opened or touched or any of that.I took it home, expecting to be amazed again by natsume's marvelous video games, since I am an harvest moon fan. I ran to my room popped the harvest moon game into my playstation2 and waited to be left in awe. At first, nothing really bad popped out in my face, but then, I saw it. The graphics were horrible, and it took so long to load just to walk in your house!!! I do give natsume a bit of credit for making the dating scenes more exciting, but that's only one star now is't it? To make a long story short, it was a total waste of money and time!!
i didn't play it yet but i studied it on the computer. it sounds awesome!

i don't have the game, but my good friend has the regular 'A Wonderful Life' game, and i loved it! And i have 2 other Harvset Moon games. So i was tired of alwys getting boy children. But now i'm glad u can get a girl! And u can finally marry Lumina! I've waited for that for a while. And the music is awesome. Even by the sound of it, i know this game is awesome. Trust me, i have played a lot of Harvest Moon games. this one sounds like the best yet!!

I am a HUGE Harvest Moon fan, and have bought as many of their games as possible, so it was only natural I got this one. I was sooo excited that we finally got to have a little girl as a child, plus a new bride. Ohhhh my poor eyes, they are red with having to stare at the screen so long; Now loading my butt! I was slightly dissapointed with this game. The movements of the main character and other charries were so slow I thought I would die of oldness before they finally reached the place they needed to be. Natsume, I am truly sorry but this game needed much more work on the lighting and on making it faster. I love all the harvest moon games I have ever bought. But this one is a little boring for me. Plus it's very hard trying to move around in the dark because the lighting is so bad, yep, expect total darkness when it turns 5:00 pm on the game. The backgrounds are grey and blek. All in all, I rated this game three stars because it is not the worst nor the best.
The good stuff: You can have a baby girl.
The music is much better
Yay! a new bride.
A few new events.
The bad stuff: Terrible lighting.
Bland looking backgrounds.
S-L-O-W M-O-V-E-M-E-N-T-S
Somewhat boring.
Great game
