For being a 1st gen ps2 game ggb is not bad. Especially with its realistic game environment. It's lack of mech's to pilot (only 4 and i have 496 medals) is a serios downside. But the weapons amd equipment partly make up for it's mech lack. The ability to look and observe your enemy in the weapons system option is cool but you kind of wish you could pilot everything. Even tanks, helicopters, and that one jet fighter. Overall the gameplay is one of the most realistic in mech games. But I still wish i could pilot the Brutal crab>sob!
Not terrible, but probably rental material.

Gungriffon Blaze can be pretty fun when the action gets intense, but it's too shallow and too short for my taste. The graphics aren't bad, but they are definitely first-generation PS2 graphics. There are some options for customizing mechs, but they're pretty sparse. It can be hard to figure out exactly what the real objectives are on some of the levels. That can be frustrating. The controls aren't too bad, but they can be a little awkward. Overall, it might be a good rental sometime if you're into mech games, but I wouldn't buy it until it hits the bargain bin.
A must for crazy mechaholics

Though many would say Armored Core IS A SUPERIOR PRODUCT one does need to play the 2 other previous gungriffon titles to appreciate it . Gun Griffon introduced you to the high-macs, which handled a little too "lightly" for a 'mech and the levels themselves were fair but hard until the last level ( too hard for normal players set on normal.)Gun Griffon II controls are more realistic making the mech a little more sloppy to control and harder to stop almost like a mechwarrior 2 firemoth, and they introduced "tracer" shells to the guns which made it much easier to hit something. (even on very hard, )and you have a choice of mechs to use..(something Gungriffon 1 should have had.)
Gungriffon blaze IS an improvement over both titles..
It combines both good points of the previouls titles. Challenging levels with a more realistic response in the controls and weapons. (unique to each mech and the guns have effective ranges.much like the second title)
First thing that people should know, there is no radar or build in map. That may be taken as a down side, but then again I take this as an attempt to make the game more "realistic".
I thank you Game Arts. Working designs made a good choice to release this.(Although I prefer the ol' jap dialog. Since their voice actors do a great job.)
The difficulty of this game has been upped a few notches. Some who are used to Armored Core may need to brush up on their controls and change their playing style.(something that is hard when you get used to customizing a powerful 'mech.)
My only gripe is that this game seems too short for its own greatness.
Maybe having as much missions as mechwarrior mercenaries or possibly have much more mechs at hand with more colorschemes. Those are my only complaints.(other than not being able to make my own squad insignia..Now where is my AFTA pilot jacket?)
If you want a challenge however, I recommend you give it a try.
surprising....a waist of money

Im giving this game 2 stars and thats just because im really nice. First of all this game is horrible. You have no raidar so you cant see your enemy, the graphics are terrible, your guns suck and last of not least i would of had more fun spending my ... dollars on bubble gum then buying this game. I could go on but i wish to stop just to be nice to the people who made this game.
Better than you'd think!

A sequel to the 2 Saturn games(the second was not released in the US), Gungriffon is now here in the states , courtesy of Working Designs. Most people will compare Gungriffon to Armored Core 2...while they are both "Mech" type games, the Armored Core series has always been more "sim" like than Gungriffon(which has always been more arcade like)...so of course, Armored Core has more parts to customize, etc. While it is the general belief that Armored Core is better than Gungriffon, I'd say that they are on equal ground. Gungriffon Blaze has a lot going for it. Graphics are good for a 1st gen game, and as usual, Game Arts gameplay is excellent. The sound is excellent, and Working Designs made a good choice in bringing over this title. A solid game, but if you want customization, than you'd be better off with Armored Core. If you like more fast action paced gameplay, than here you go. Mech fans will get both.
Not so good.

The graphics are pretty good. The controls are o.k. However -The mission objectives are unclear. The mech customization is limited. The missions become difficult quickly. The background dialog is annoying. Weapon and special equipment specs are not spelled out. I quit playing after the fourth mission and I don't think I will ever pick it up again.
Pretty fun game but way too short.

This game is fun to play, somewhat challenging, has a pretty good story, and is fast paced. However, in my opinion, it's not quite as good as the other mech game available for PS2, Armored Core 2.
There are many different mechs and weapons to choose from in the game. I'm not exactly sure how many there are, though. Some of the mechs can fly and dash; some can only walk-very slowly. You get to choose weapons and accessories for your mech before each mission. Optional weapons range from shotguns to bombs that explode in a radius of 1 kilometer. Accessories can be pieces that increase your attack or defensive power, allow slower mechs to fly or dash, or give you better accuracy to conserve ammo.
Although there are many robots to choose from, the down side is that the customization of them is very limited. You pick the one you want, add one extra weapon, add two optional parts, and then start the game. With Armored Core 2, you get a fully customizable mech, 202 parts to choose from, 14 areas to stick the parts in, and millions of combinations.
Armored Core 2 has an arena(one-one battles with computer pilots), 36 missions(with varying objectives- not just blow up this and blow up that in a certain amount of time), and multiplayer options so you can blow up your friends' mechs too. Sadly, GunGriffon Blaze has none of these nice features. You are limited to 6 missions. There are 6 to unlock, but they are just more difficult versions of the six levels you already have. No arena, no money to earn, no killing your friends. Some people prefer GunGriffon Blaze because it has a first-person perspective. Armored Core 2 has a code to make it have a first-person view. Go to any online code site to find it.
More on the missions now. The first bad thing is that you have to memorize a crappy map that you get to look at for two minutes before the mission you play. Armored Core 2 has no maps as well, but the levels usually don't allow free roaming and are mostly straightforward. Also, there is the unrealistic way of healing yourself by picking up little cans for instant health. The reward for completing the missions are little boxes that give you random weapons, parts, or "manuals"(pictures and a paragraph about it) of the enemies and mechs you get to use. You may also get medals. When you get enough of these, a new mech may become available for use. The worst part is that you only have ten minutes for each mission.
I don't know about you, but I'd rather not spend 40 bucks for two or three hours of play. Although the game was fun, I'm glad I was able to return it to the store I got it from. I'm saving my money until a better game comes along. Go for Armored Core 2 if you want a great mech game.
Not good

I have both Armored Core 2 and Gungriffon Blaze, and the latter is clearly superiorfirst off it is first person giving it some realism. The graphics are great and the gameplay is only moderatly challenging in the first few stages so gamers who are not profecient at these sorts of games can quickly learn to handle it. The action is always fast paced and you are never trapped since this is a go anywhere game. If you suddenly find your self surronded you can try to battle it out sprint or my favorite option spread out your wings fly around drop behind them and blast them that way. There is never a dead end and always another option in this game.
Incredible action - best on PS2!

This game moves FAST. It feels like a really intense FPS game, with you inside different mechs jamming all over different terrain to protect bases or wipe out enemies. Some of the mechs can fly, and all have AWESOME weapons to choose from. The lighting and explosions are really realistic, with dust-clouds and fire trails. Did I mention that the game is fast? Another cool thing is that the radio in your mech picks up the chatter from the oher game-controlled mechs on your team. Gamers Republic hit it right on when they called this one of the best PS2 launch titles. Next to EA's hot SSX, this one's at the top of my list. I just wish there were more than 6 base missions with 6 more to unlock...
