I bought this game hoping that it would be as fun as EAsports F1 2001 and boy is it! It has an extremely steep learning curve compared to any other racing game I've played though. As far as realism, this game blows the pants off of F1 2001 and it's more fun if you can learn how to drive it. One major setback though is that it is near to impossible to play with the dual-shock controller. You have to have a good wheel to have any fun. So if you want a very realistic F1 game than this is the one. If you aren't a serious fan of F1 and you just want a taste of of the action than you should get F1 2001 by EAsports.
This game is an excellent purchase

I got this game for Xmas as a gift. I have played many racing and driving games but they never please me because they were so unrealistic and phony. This game is different. I have been playing and learning the first track (Australia) since Xmas and now I can manage to keep the car on the track at a decent speed, I have brought my time down from 2:20 to about 1:33. Yeah, I know it sucks, but then again I am not a F1 driver. I have read the reviews here and agree more with the good ones than the bad ones, this is as real to driving as it gets the car reacts in a normal and realistic way. The people that say they can't control the car, what do you expect? you think you could jump in a F1 car and beat the pros right off the bat?. Practice, practice, practice my friends. I can't wait until I get the PS2 USB wheel. I have not played EA's so I can't say anything about that, but this is the best driving game I've played so far. If you want phony and unreal buy something else. For the real F1 fans, this is it baby.
F1 ahhh yeah

well coming from a background of watching auto racing. the good racing. F1, kart, vintage, and rally. this game is very realistic. the controls are tougher then most games to master. but then again all in all it is a good game.

There is a PSone version available in UK and other European countries. It looks like me buying Formula 1 Championship Edition Not this. Graphics: Formula 1 Championship Edition. Gorgeous graphics. especially for a PSone game. Formula One 2001: not quite as good. not even as good as the PSone version for some reason! doesn't seem quite as realistic. Buy Formula 1 Championship Edition.
Don't buy this game!

Previous poor reviews are right on the money. (...) The graphics are all wrong (they look nothing like the real on-screen timing and scoring that we are used to seeing) the sound sucks and the steering is horrible. (...)
Unacceptable game from Sony/989 Sports

I am a F1 fan and have been following since late 80's. I played all F1 games whenever possible. Many reviews gave high marks, right. Who're these reviewers??? This game is uncontrollable without activating the ABS and traction control! It understeers all the time and the brakes fail on me regardless of esses, chicanes or hairpins. I read the Euro-version is different. What did 989 Sports do, I don't know. I am on my way to get a copy of EA's version, that's for sure.
This is a pathetic attempt by Sony for a 2ND generation game

Don't even bother to rent this game. EA's new F1 game makes this obsolete. This game reminds me of Pole Position on Atari, it's a joke. Oh, I almost forgot, NO WIDESCREEN MODE, absolutely unacceptable.
Ps2 world is fun but this item isn't

If you have plenty of games but you always come back to your first love, Gran Turismo 3, this is the game for you. Graphics and game playing are very good and the game is very addictive. By far the best racing game for PS2 after GT3. If you have doubts, grab a copy, race the Japanese race track and you will see your adrenaline levels go high!!!. Beatiful game.
